(Black) Condemned for 1993 Slaying (of newlywed White man and rape of White wife) Loses Federal Appeal A federal appeals court has refused an appeal from a 40-year-old man on death row for fatally shooting a Dallas man who was walking with his newlywed wife on a jogging trail at a community college just outside Dallas. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday denied Alvin Braziel's arguments that his attorneys were deficient for not presenting sufficient mitigating evidence during the punishment phase of his 2001 murder trial in Dallas. Braziel was condemned for a 1993 failed robbery attempt where 27-year-old Douglas White was shot dead. White's wife of 11 days was raped during the attack on the trail that circled Eastfield College in Mesquite. DNA tests while Braziel was serving a five-year prison term for sexual assault of a child linked him to the slaying. - (Black-on-white) |

(Black) Man charged in connection with (white) ex girlfriend's disappearance - dismemberment MINNEAPOLIS -- A Minneapolis man is behind bars in connection with the disappearance of ex-girlfriend Adelle "Addie" Jensen, who has been missing since Nov. 18. Thirty-one-year-old Joshua Dow was charged Monday with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, and interference with a dead body while concealing evidence. According to charges, Dow, who has a 2-year-old daughter with Jensen, went with her parents to the police station when they filed a missing persons report on Nov. 21. After Jensen's parents left, Dow returned to the station and told police that he and Jensen had recently argued because he was seeing someone else. He also told them Jensen "had left like this twice in the past - once in January and once a few week ago," according to the complaint. On Nov. 22, Dow's brother told police that Jensen was dead and that he had assisted Dow in moving her body, according to charges. He told police that Dow put a gun to his head and said he would kill him if he didn't help. He said they took her body to a warehouse in Minneapolis. Dow's brother took police to the warehouse, but was surprised to see the closet where they had put Jensen's body was empty. However, officers "smelled what their experience led them to believe was decomposing flesh," according to court documents. A witness told authorities he had seen Dow at the warehouse on Nov. 22, washing off tarps and putting boxes on a cart. When Dow was arrested, he told officers that Jensen had killed herself in front of him and he panicked. According to court documents, Dow told another witness that he had dismembered Jensen after she died and disposed of her body. He also admitted to police that he had disposed of her body, but did not disclose a location. - (Black-on-white) |

Prosecutors say Brenden Wilson, 16, was lured to a pathway near Woodbridge Senior High School, where he was shot and killed last November. Five young people face charges in the case, including three teenagers and three siblings. The oldest of all of them, Kawain Smalls, 21, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder. "Six shots to the back. His younger sister is also charged in the case. She's the one who apparently lured Brenden Wilson to a pathway behind the school known as 'The Cut' with the prospect of buying marijuana from him. Stunned son struggles with murder of his (White) mother by a (black) teen Wilson, N.C. — David Franzwa is struggling to understand how his mother, 55-year-old Donna Lynne Davis, ended up unconscious in a Wilson intersection Saturday night. Police charged Albert Henry Jones III, 16, of 1102 Rountree Ave. with her murder, but did not say anything about how she died or what connection she might have had with her killer. Franzwa heard the sirens Saturday night just before 10:00 as they whizzed by his home. He had no idea they were on the way to his mother, who had been attacked as she walked her dog and lay dying in the intersection of Vance Street and Maplewood Drive just blocks away. Police found the dog, Tricksie, sitting beside Davis' unconscious body. "She walks that street every day to walk her little dog, and nobody's ever bothered her until now," Franzwa said. "I don’t understand why a kid would do that to someone." According to police, EMS workers tried to revive Davis, but their attempts were unsuccessful. "My heart sank when I found out it was murder," Franzwa said. "I'd have to say it's the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life, identify my mother's body." - (Black-on-white) |

After More Than 7 Years, Convicted Killer to Face Trial in Murder of Aspiring Teacher in Philadelphia The murder trial for a man already serving a life sentence in one murder case will begin Monday. Convicted killer Marcellus Jones is accused of killing Beau Zabel, an aspiring teacher who authorities say was gunned down for his iPod a month after moving to Philadelphia in 2008. Jones apparently wanted Zabel's iPod, police said. The 36-year-old is already in prison, serving time for the murder of another man, Tyreek Taylor. Prosecutors have said they believed Jones murdered the 20-year-old to keep him from talking to police about the man's role in Zabel's death -- allegedly as a getaway driver. Jones is currently serving a life sentence for Taylor's death. Zabel, who was from Minnesota, was studying at Drexel University at the time of his murder and planned to teach in the public school system. He had just gotten off work at the Starbucks at 4th and South Streets when he was robbed and shot. - (Black-on-white) |

Suspect Allegedly Stood Over Pastor's Pregnant Wife and 'Watched Her Bleed' After Shooting Her in the Head: Affidavit A probable cause affidavit obtained by PEOPLE states that 18-year-old Larry Jo Taylor, Jr. – one of the two men charged with killing Amanda Blackburn, the pregnant wife of an Indianapolis pastor – allegedly stood over his victim after he shot her in the head and "watched her bleed." The affidavit further states that Taylor used his gun to strike the 28-year-old mother in the mouth during the Nov. 10 home invasion. In fact, the blow was so powerful, it allegedly knocked one of the teeth from her jaw. Taylor was formally charged with Blackburn's murder on Monday along with an accomplice, 21-year-old Jalen Watson. According to the affidavit, Taylor and Watson entered the Blackburn home through the front door, which was unlocked. Once inside, "Taylor stated [Amanda Blackburn] charged at him and he shot her somewhere in the upper body." Taylor fired his gun because he didn't want Blackburn scratching him, reads the affidavit. In describing the crime, Taylor also allegedly told his accomplices and associates that he "leaned over her body and shot her in the back of the head. He leaned further, looked at her face, and watched her bleed." Blackburn was shot three times, the affidavit claims: in the head, upper back and left arm. Amanda's husband, pastor Davey Blackburn, returned from the gym to find her on the living room floor, face down in a pool of her own blood. Blackburn was found naked, with her underwear bunched up and left at her side, the affidavit reads. - (Black-on-white) |

Toronto police say that around 11:50 p.m. on July 27, 1990, a woman was sleeping in a ground floor apartment near Millwood Road and Overlea Boulevard. A man entered through her open window, choked her, and threatened to hurt her further if she did not comply. He sexually assaulted her and then fled. “Physical evidence was located from the scene and from the woman,” Ansari said, but police would have to wait 10 years before the case progressed any further. Police issued a Canada-wide warrant for Austin Wycliffe Thomas in July of 2014, who was by then living in the UK. The extradition process began and Thomas was returned to Canada on Tuesday. - (Canada) |
Black woman arrested for hit and run death of 72-year-old White man SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Savannah-Chatham police arrested Darcia Wilson, 50, for the January hit and run death of 72-year-old Peter Meyer of Vero Beach, Fla. Monday afternoon, Wilson confessed to the fatal accident at SCMPD’s Traffic office. Four days prior, MAIT interviewed her at her Jacksonville, Fla. residence. With assistance from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, search warrants were served for Wilson’s red 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe. Evidence linking the vehicle to the accident was recovered and is being further analyzed at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab. Investigators contacted Wilson after receiving a CrimeStoppers tip. On Jan. 4, at about 10:30 p.m., Meyer was found on the ground in front of a hotel on the 5700 block of Abercorn Street. (Black man) pleads not guilty in killing of (White woman) - (claims 'murder for hire') Michael Beard Sr. pleaded not guilty Monday to three counts of murder in the Sept. 29 killing of Kelley Clayton in Caton. Beard, 44, of Elmira, was arraigned on the charges in Steuben County Court after a grand jury handed up the indictment Friday. The first-degree murder charge alleges he took part in a contract killing, and could mean life in prison without parole. The District Attorney declined to comment on the status of the case against the other man charged in the killing: Kelley Clayton’s husband, Thomas Clayton. Police say Kelley Clayton was found beaten to death at approximately 1 a.m. Sept. 29 at her home in Caton. Later the same day, Thomas Clayton, 39, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He has since been released on bail. Attorney Ray Schlather, in a bail hearing for Thomas Clayton, called the murder-for-hire plot “the outrageous claims of a desperate man,” claiming Beard had falsely implicated his client. - (Black-on-white) |

(Black) Man gets max for killing of (white) girlfriend in Black River Falls apartment BLACK RIVER FALLS — Michael L. Harmon boldly turned around in his chair and told the family of a woman he killed that he didn’t intend to end her life. “You know I didn’t mean to,” Harmon, 39, said after being convicted Wednesday in Jackson County Court of second-degree reckless homicide and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Harmon pleaded no contest to the charges related to the June 9, 2013, shooting death of Angela Nelson, 34, at the Black River Falls apartment they shared. Harmon stoically stared at Nelson’s daughter, sister and mother as they gave emotional impact statements before Harmon received the maximum sentence of 25 years in prison followed by 15 years of extended supervision. Harmon had left the apartment to “cool down” over an argument but returned with a gun and shot her. Nelson’s body had a combination of amphetamine, methamphetamine and marijuana, and it registered a blood alcohol level of 0.123 at the time of her autopsy. She also had facial wounds, one which had a pattern similar to the handgun used in her death. - (Black-on-white) |

(Colored) Teen gets 60 years in fatal shooting (of White teen) Loud sobs rang out in a packed Rock Island County courtroom Wednesday as a Moline teen was sentenced to 60 years in prison for fatally shooting a man and seriously injuring another man. Lamaree E. Wilson-Neuleib, 17, dressed in dress shirt and tie, apologized for the May 20 fatal shooting of Zachary M. Phillips, 18, and wounding of Erik Roberson, 20. “I know a lot of y’all hate me,” he said. “I’m sorry for all this.” During an emotional, two-hour sentencing hearing, Judge F. Michael Meersman sentenced Wilson-Neuleib to 50 years on one count of first-degree murder and 10 years on a charge of aggravated battery with a firearm. He must serve 100 percent of the sentence on the murder charge and 85 percent of the sentence on the battery charge, for a total of 58 ½ years. He will be 75 when he is released. Despite the teen’s “chaotic” childhood and history of mental health and substance abuse, Meersman said there was no excuse for what happened the day of the shooting. Wilson-Neuleib apparently had gone to buy marijuana from Roberson that day. - (Black-on-white) |
