'Alleged' subway shooter Frank James has been indicted after authorities say he shot multiple people on a Brooklyn train station last month.
According to the indictment from the United States District Court Eastern District of New York, a grand jury indicted James with carrying out a terror attack against a mass transit system as well as discharging a firearm during a crime of violence. If convicted on the first count, James faces a maximum sentence of life in prison. If convicted on the second count, James faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison with a maximum of life in prison. No date has been set for the arraignment.
James is accused of injuring 29 people in a Sunset Park, Brooklyn, subway station around 8:25 a.m. on the morning of April 12. James was allegedly aboard a Manhattan-bound N train during morning rush-hour when he placed a gas mask on his face, activated a smoke canister and opened fire inside the train and on the platform of the 36th Street subway station. Authorities said James rented a U-Haul van from a Philadelphia store on Monday and made his way into Brooklyn on Tuesday morning, according to the federal criminal complaint. Authorities allege that James then boarded a different subway after the attack and fled from the area. According to the complaint, authorities discovered two bags and the reflective jacket among items that were left behind at the scene.
"The first bag contained, among other items, a firearm, a plastic container containing gasoline, a torch, a U-Haul key, and multiple bank cards," the document states. "The second bag contained fireworks, which are black powder-filled explosives."
James was later arrested by NYPD officers after calling into a tipline and informing authorities of his location. "We got him," BLACK New York City Mayor Eric Adams declared during an afternoon news conference. |

Judge's ruling clears way for Arizona NAVAJO INDIAN inmate Clarence Dixon to be executed for 1978 murder of ASU student Deana Bowdoin
A judge has ruled that an Arizona prisoner convicted in the 1978 killing of a university student is mentally fit to be put to death next week, keeping on track what would be the first execution in the state in nearly eight years.
In a ruling signed shortly before midnight Tuesday and released on Wednesday, Pinal County Superior Court Judge Robert Olson said that that Clarence Dixon has not met his burden "to show that his mental state is so distorted by a mental illness that he lacks a rational understanding of the state's rationale for his execution." Dixon was convicted of murder in the killing of 21-year-old Arizona State University student Deana Bowdoin. Dixon is scheduled to be executed on May 11. Lawyers for Dixon said they will appeal the ruling to the Arizona Supreme Court. Dixon's lawyers argued Tuesday in a court in Florence, Arizona, that executing him would violate protections against executing people who are mentally unfit. They said he erroneously believes he will be executed because police at Northern Arizona University wrongfully arrested him in a previous case - a 1985 attack on a 21-year-old student. His attorneys concede he was in fact lawfully arrested at the time by Flagstaff police. Dixon was sentenced to life sentences in that case for sexual assault and other convictions. DNA samples taken while he was in prison later linked him to Bowdoin's killing, which at that point had been unsolved. Pakistan police arrest 8 MUSLIM men over apparent religious killing 
LAHORE, Pakistan -- Pakistani police say they arrested eight men of the Ahmadi sect of Islam on Saturday who had opened fire on a group of Sunni Muslims the night prior, killing one and wounding another.
Senior officer Faisal Mukhtar said the Ahmadis shot at the Sunnis while they were chanting religious poems in the village of Bahuman, near Lahore in the eastern province of Punjab. One minor suspect was still missing. The killing was a rare case of violence exercised by Ahmadis, who have long held a grievance against Pakistan's majority Sunnis, who consider them heretics. Ahmadis believe that an additional prophet named Ghulam Ahmad was sent by God in the 19th century, centuries after the Prophet Muhammad. That view is at odds with the fundamental Islamic principle that Muhammad was God's final chosen messenger. Pakistan amended its constitution in 1974 to specifically declare that Ahmadis are not Muslims and may not be called or call themselves that. It also barred them from preaching. Recently, a Louisiana judge sentenced Terrance Leonard, 36, to four consecutive life sentences for the attack. He pleaded guilty to four counts of first-degree murder for the killings of Kristian Riley, 32. He also killed her 14-year-old daughter, her 10-year-old son and her 9-year-old niece, according to WWL-TV. Another child was injured but survived. Riley and Leonard were in an unblessed sexual relationship. The attack happened on March 6, 2019, and Leonard attacked the children as they slept while waiting for Riley to return home from work, according to WWL-TV. Leonard’s mother found the four victims the next day. Riley, her son and her niece were pronounced dead in the apartment, according to WWL-TV. The 14-year-old was taken to the hospital, where she died days later. Investigators said Leonard hid the hammer in a nearby garbage can and tried to clean the blood before he left the area, according to the report. He later returned with his mom to make it look like he had an alibi. After he was arrested, Leonard said he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the killing. A neighbor told deputies she heard Riley and Leonard arguing the night of the murders, according to WWL-TV. Prosecutors initially sought the death penalty in the case but later relented and decided to seek life in prison for the killer, according to WGNO. Ida Rhodes was a family member of the victims, and shortly after Leonard was sentenced, she returned to the scene with WGNO. She released balloons to honor her loved ones. “I decided today was the day that I would stand in front of this building and release balloons in my children’s names, and let the world know today I got my victory,” Rhodes told the TV station Rhodes told WGNO the sentence helped ease the pain, but it will never completely heal. “We’ve still got a long road to go,” she said, according to WGNO. “Just because we got justice today, doesn’t mean that it’s easy and we’re going to move on ASAP. Police in Michigan chase ARMED BLACK shopper, shoot him in parking lot EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Police responding to a call about a shopper with a gun chased a man at a Michigan big-box store and shot him twice in the parking lot, according to video. “You just shot me for no reason,” DeAnthony VanAtten, 20, told officers as he lay on the ground handcuffed while they checked his injuries outside a Meijer store in East Lansing on April 25. East Lansing police released video from body-worn cameras and the store's roof Thursday and said state police were in charge of the investigation. “We are taking this situation very seriously,” Police Chief Kim Johnson said. “I know the facts have been slow to come out about this incident, and we appreciate the community’s ongoing patience.” Burnette VanAtten said her son was shot for “shopping while Black.” “He was running in fear for his life,” she told the Lansing State Journal. The incident began after a 911 dispatcher said someone had called with a weapons complaint at Meijer. The dispatcher was very specific, saying a Black 20-year-old man with a hat and mask covering all but his eyes had pulled a gun from his Chevrolet Equinox and was headed into the store. “He's not threatening anybody with it,” the dispatcher said. Officers were inside the store looking for VanAtten. Minutes later, an officer confronted him and ordered him to show his hands as the man was leaving a lobby with a bag. A foot chase began through rows of parked cars. “He's got a gun! He's got a gun!” an officer yelled, before VanAtten was shot. A gun was found elsewhere in the parking lot under a vehicle. VanAtten was treated at a hospital and taken to jail for a probation violation unrelated to the incident. He's no longer in custody, police said. Johnson said he couldn't answer questions about the gun because it was part of the state police investigation. Meijer discourages people from openly carrying guns but doesn't ban them. East Lansing officials said they released video in an effort to be open with residents in officer-related shootings, similar to the justification cited in April when authorities in Grand Rapids, Michigan, released video of the police killing of Patrick Lyoya. That case, too, is being investigated by state police. |

The boy was walking at Rockaway Parkway near Winthrop Street in Brownsville around 3:50 p.m. Monday when Fiesco stopped him and started chatting him up, cops said. Fiesco claimed he had a knife and lured the boy to “an unknown location,” where he then sexually assaulted him, police said. The teen – who did not report any injuries – was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation, cops said. Investigators tracked down Fiesco with the help of the boy, police said. BLACK-ON-WHITE: White Sheriff's corporal shot in 2016 Baton Rouge Black Supremacist assassination dies
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Nick Tullier, a Baton Rouge sheriff’s deputy who was shot in the head and stomach during a July 2016 ambush that killed three other law enforcement officers during a summer of DOMESTIC TERRORISM AND INSURRECTION over the police killing of a Black criminal, died Thursday at age 47.
Tullier's death was announced on the Facebook page of is father, James Tullier, and on a companion page dedicated to Tullier's effort to recover in the years since the shooting. They did not mention the cause of death, but Tullier had struggled for years to recover from the 2016 shooting. Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards ordered that flags fly at half-staff over the Capitol and other public buildings in East Baton Rouge Parish until sunset Friday. He called Tullier, a corporal in the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office, and the other officers shot in the July 17, 2016, shooting “true heroes.” The Sunday morning ambush came less than two weeks after Alton Sterling, a Black Baton Rouge resident, was fatally shot in a struggle with two white Baton Rouge police officers outside a convenience store on July 5. Video of Sterling's killing spread on social media and led to protests against the police in Baton Rouge and beyond. No officers were ever charged for Sterling's death, although the local government paid a $4.5 million BLACKmail settlement with his family years later. Two days after the Sterling shooting, a BLACK ASSASSIN sniper in Dallas killed five police officers and wounded seven others during DOMESTIC TERRORIST INSURRECTION protests over the shootings of Sterling and the July 6 shooting death of Philando Castile. The July 17 ambush ended when the suspect was shot and killed. He was identified as Gavin Long, 29, of Kansas City, Missouri, a Black military veteran. HOUSTON (AP) — A man was sentenced to life in prison on Wednesday for fatally stabbing an 11-year-old Houston boy as the child walked home from school in 2016.
Andre Timothy Jackson had chosen state District Judge Denise Collins to sentence him instead of the jury that had found him guilty of murder on Tuesday in the death of Josue Flores. The accused maintained his innocence. Authorities say the sixth grader was killed as he walked home from a science club meeting at a school just north of downtown Houston on May 17, 2016. He was only two blocks from home when he was stabbed more than 20 times. Witnesses told officers they heard loud screams and saw the boy struggling with a man. Prosecutors say they have not been able to determine a motive for the attack. “Josue Flores is somebody that will always remain with us in our community because of the future that was lost. I think every parent, it’s their worst nightmare and we can’t imagine going through this," Harris County Assistant District Attorney John Jordan, one of the prosecutors in the case, said after the sentence was handed down by the judge. SNELLVILLE, Ga. - Police said a baby girl died Tuesday when she was left in a car for several hours after her father was arrested for violating his probation in Snellville.
Police charged the father, 20-year-old Davied Japez McCorry Whatley, with second-degree murder. Police said the child, Nova Grace Whatley-Trejo, died from being exposed in the car. Officials with the Snellville Police Department said, shortly after 2:15 p.m., Whatley entered the lobby of their department to pick up a gun police had in their possession. While he was there, police learned that Whatley had a warrant out for his arrest for a probation violation. He was arrested and taken to the Gwinnett County Jail. Police said it's standard to conduct a background check for anyone picking up a firearm at the police department. Later that night, police say a woman brought her 8-month-old granddaughter to the Piedmont Eastside Emergency Room. The baby girl, who has been identified as Whatley's daughter, was pronounced dead. The grandmother told hospital staff that the girl had been left in Whatley's car after a traffic stop. Investigators said, at some point, Whatley told the child's grandmother the child was in the car. When police were notified about the death, they found Whatley's car parked near the dumpsters at the Snellville City Hall. Investigators say Whatley was recorded the entire time from when he walked into the police department to when he was booked at the jail. At no point did he mention his daughter had been left in the vehicle. "I'm absolutely astounded someone could leave an 8-month-old in the car, park away from our building and walk up here knowing that child was in the car," Snellville Police Department Detective Jeff Manely said. Whatley was released on bond related to his initial arrest for a probation violation, but law enforcement took him into custody Wednesday on murder charges. NEW YORK -- Rapper Kidd Creole, who was a founding member of Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five, was sentenced Wednesday to 16 years in prison for stabbing a homeless man to death on a New York City street.
The 62-year-old rapper, born Nathaniel Glover, was found guilty of manslaughter last month for the death of John Jolly, who was stabbed twice in the chest with a steak knife in midtown Manhattan in August 2017. Prosecutors accused Glover of stabbing Jolly after becoming enraged because he thought Jolly was gay and was hitting on him. After stabbing Jolly, who was 55, Glover headed to his workplace nearby, changed his clothes and washed the knife, prosecutors said. Glover was arrested the following day. “Mr. Jolly’s death was devastating to his family and those who knew him,” Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said in a news release after the sentencing. “Every life we lose to violent crime ripples throughout our entire city, and we will continue to ensure everyone in our borough can live their lives with the sense of safety and security they deserve.” The New York Times reports that Manhattan state Supreme Court Justice Michele Rodney appeared to take issue with arguments made by Glover's lawyer, Scottie Celestin, who said during the trial that Glover had felt threatened in part because Jolly was homeless. “A life is a life is a life,” Rodney said, adding as she sentenced Glover that the killing was not “somehow justified because the person is homeless.” |

A 20-year-old man lead authorities on a high-speed chase Monday night through six counties along Florida’s Turnpike and Interstate 95 before he was captured in a field by a K-9 named Zorro, police said.
Richard St. Leger, 20, of Pompano Beach, drove a stolen Mercedes SUV through Orange County, Osceola, Indian River, Okeechobee, and St. Lucie County, before the pursuit ended in Martin County, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies deployed stop sticks to flatten the vehicle's tires and a K-9 named Zorro then helped secure the fleeing suspect, the Martin County Sheriff's Office said in a press release. The chase began near Orlando and ended some 150 miles later near Hobe Sound. "The danger to innocent lives related to this crime cannot be overstated," the sheriff’s office said. Deputies in Martin County, which is north of West Palm Beach, were alerted to the chase through an alert from the Florida Highway Patrol. Video footage from a sheriff's office aircraft showed the car speeding along without headlights after deputies attempted to stop it. The sheriff's office said the ground pursuit was terminated because of the dangerous speeds, but the aircraft continued to track the stolen SUV. Deputies were able to deploy the stop sticks to deflate the vehicle's tires. The driver ran from the vehicle and into a wooded area. "Multiple deputies followed along with K-9 Zorro," the sheriff’s office said. After he ignored multiple commands to surrender, deputies unleashed the dog "into the woods ending this dangerous criminal joyride." St. Leger faces multiple charges including grand theft of a motor vehicle, fleeing with a disregard for safety, and obstruction. MUSLIM-named Mohammed Almaru, of Tinley Park, charged with murder of 17-year-old daughter, Mia Maro 
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Tinley Park man has been charged with killing his teenage daughter, Mia Maro, at their home over the weekend.
Tinley Park Police Chief Matthew Walsh said, around 5 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to Mia's home in the 7800 block of West 167th Street in Tinley Park, for a possible death investigation, and found her dead in the lower level of the home. Officers also found Mia's father, 42-year-old Mohammed Almaru, with superficial self-inflicted wounds to his wrist and throat. Walsh said Almaru also had ingested pills, and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center for treatment. Meantime, an autopsy determined Mia died of multiple injuries, and her death was ruled a homicide. Walsh said Mia had suffered "serious bruising throughout her whole body," but there was no one injury that clearly caused her death. "It's an absolute tragic loss," Walsh said. "A lot of officers and others in community have been calling me. They have children of the same age. They know this girl. They liked this girl. They're friends with her." Albaru was intubated at the hospital, and detectives were not able to question him until late Monday afternoon. He has since been charged with first-degree murder in Mia's death, although police have not said what evidence led them to seek charges. The circumstances of and motive for Mia's death are still unclear. "We don't know. He's not cooperating. He's still under medical care," Walsh said. Walsh said there is evidence of "some domestic stuff" in the past involving the family, but police had only been called to the home one time in the past for a medical emergency involving Mia's mother. The chief declined to speculate if there had been any history of physical abuse before Mia's death. Tinley Park Mayor Michael Glotz offered his condolences to Mia's family, as well as her classmates at Andrew High School, where she was a senior. "By all accounts, she was a lovely young woman at the very beginning of her life, a life that she will now never get to fulfill," Glotz said. A Huntington Beach man was convicted Tuesday of special-circumstances murder for the brutal slaying of a man and woman in a Newport Beach condominium, killings apparently driven by his jealousy at those he believed were in relationships with an estranged girlfriend.
That Jamon Buggs shot Darren Partch, 38, and Wendi Miller, 48, to death on April 19, 2019 was never disputed during his two week-long trial in a Newport Beach courtroom, with Buggs attorneys instead arguing that he committed the slayings in the "heat of passion" and should be convicted of a lesser charge. The jury deliberated for about three hours. Buggs showed no reaction to the verdicts as they were read in court. Sentencing is set for June 3. Buggs faces up to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office opted not to seek the death penalty against Buggs. But (alleged) "racially charged comments" made by DA Todd Spitzer during internal deliberations that led to the death penalty decision ignited a controversy when they surfaced earlier this year. According to internal DA memos, Spitzer asked about "the race of Buggs’ former girlfriends and told his senior management that he “knows many Black people who enhance their status by only "dating" ‘White women.’” Buggs is Black; Partch and Miller were White, as is Buggs’ ex-sexfriend, Samanta Brewers. In a statement released following the verdict, Spitzer said, “The allegations of any racial animus or bias against the defendant are baseless and quite frankly offensive.” The DA added that his comments were in response to arguments that Buggs’ defense attorneys repeated during the criminal trial. Buggs wrongly believed that Partch was in a relationship with Brewers. Miller had no ties to Buggs, and had only met Partch hours before her killing. “The motive, probably as old as human history, is jealousy,” Deputy District Attorney David Porter said. “He doesn’t want anybody to be with Samantha if he can’t.” Defense attorneys alleged that Buggs mistook Miller for his ex-girlfriend when he burst in on Miller and Partch having sex, telling jurors during the trial that Buggs wasn’t prepared for how he would react when faced with evidence of what he long feared. “This is not a whodunit,” Alternate Defender Michael Hill said. “This case is a why did he do it.” Buggs and Brewers met at a Riverside gym, where he was working as a trainer, and quickly began dating before moving in together at a Huntington Beach apartment. Buggs’ attorneys said the two saw themselves as a “power couple,” as Brewers, with Buggs training, won body building competitions. Brewers during the trial described her relationship with Buggs as “toxic.” The prosecutor told jurors that the relationship ended in late 2018, though defense attorneys contend both Buggs and Brewers continued to be in contact and meet with each other, ignoring restraining orders they had each taken out. In late March 2019, Brewers sent Buggs an emailing saying she had “moved on,” adding “I don’t know why you can’t leave me alone.” In the days and weeks that followed, Buggs began focusing on men he believed were in relationship with Brewers. Partch also met Brewers at a gym, and exchanged social media contact info with her, but according to testimony in the trial he was never in a romantic or sexual relationship with Brewers. The other man Buggs was accused of targeting, Jared Young, was in a relationship with Brewers. Buggs called Partch and told him to stay away from Brewers, according to testimony, and confronted Young at his business and gave him the same ultimatum. He also looked up addresses for both men and Brewers and visited Partch’s residence multiple times, according to evidence presented during the trial. On the night of April 19, 2019, Buggs, armed with a .38 caliber revolver, went to Partch’s condominium. When an acquaintance texted him to ask what he was doing, Buggs responded shortly before midnight by writing “Street business baby.” Partch and Miller met at a nightclub that night and went back to Partch’s condominium, where Partch apparently forgot to lock the door. Buggs entered the condominium and interrupted Partch and Miller having sex. Partch apparently stood up, prosecutors said, while Miller rolled off the bed. Buggs fired four shots at Partch, hitting him first in the shoulder, which spun him around before a second bullet hit him in the back of the head, according to testimony. Buggs was accused of then walking up to Miller, putting the gun either directly up against her head or only inches away, and then pulling the trigger. “It was barbaric, it was cruel,” Porter said. “Even saying it was heinous doesn’t accurate describe what was happening. In a manner of seconds the defendant became a cold-blooded killer.” Buggs’ attorneys say the killings were the result of a “slow burn” within Buggs from months of pressure in his relationship with Brewers building up. Buggs had become “consumed” with finding out if Brewers was with another man, the defense attorneys said. “He walks in the room and all his fears, all his suspicions, the thing he has been consumed of for days and weeks leading up to this event come to fruition,” Hill added. The prosecutor countered that there was no evidence that Buggs mistook Miller for Brewers, telling jurors that Partch was Buggs’ target and he could have killed Miller since she witnessed the slaying. Less than a day after killing Partch and Miller, Buggs went to an Irvine apartment complex where he wrongly believed Young, the man Brewers had begun dating, was living. A woman sitting in her living room screamed when she saw Buggs on her second-story balcony, leading Buggs to quickly flee. As he climbed down, Buggs apparently fired a shot from the revolver he was carrying, leaving a bullet later recovered by police in an eave above the balcony. Irvine investigators set up a surveillance at the apartment complex, and the next night Buggs returned. Officers tried to pull Buggs over, kicking off a pursuit and search through a residential neighborhood that ended with Buggs arrest. A bag with a gun in it was found in a nearby backyard. Ballistics tests tied the gun to the Newport Beach killings and the Irvine shooting. DNA evidence tied Buggs to the revolver and the bag it was found in. The race of Buggs, the victims and his ex-girlfriend was not part of arguments during the criminal trial. But the potential impact of the racial comments made in the lead-up to the trial remain unclear. BARSTOW, Calif. (KNX) – The parents of Jamari Mendez, a 1-year-old boy in Barstow were arrested Tuesday in connection to their son's death.
On Monday, Pomona officers responded to the Pomona Valley Hospital just before 8:00 p.m. after a child was found dead upon arriving at the hospital. Detectives noticed the child “sustained injuries consistent with ongoing abuse”, as well as signs of trauma including “lesions, bruising and burn marks.” Pomona officers contacted the Barstow Police Department who began investigating the death by going to the child’s home on East Virginia Way, as well as the hospital. Detectives later learned the boy’s parents, Ricardo Mendez, 27, and Atanita Miller, 24, went to Mendez’s family home in Pomona and when the family members noticed the body in the car. “Some of Mendez’s family members immediately drove the victim to the Pomona Valley Hospital for treatment,” the Barstow Police Department said. “Ricardo Mendez and Antanita Miller stayed at the family home and did not initially go to the hospital.” Miller went to the hospital where she was arrested. Mendez fled the house by was found and arrested by Pomona Police. During a search warrant, police found items they believe were used to assault the child. UPPER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) — A mother is charged with the attempted murder of her two children and a 22-year-old neighbor in Bucks County, authorities say. The two boys, ages 13 and 9, will give the gift of life to others as their organs will be donated, Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub said in a press conference on Monday afternoon.
The boys are on life support Monday night, being kept alive to donate their organs through Gift of Life. Following the organ transplants, his office is prepared to upgrade 38-year-old Trinh Nguyen’s charges to two counts of homicide. “Both children will give the gift of life to others as their organs will be transplanted, once that occurs we will update these charges to two counts of homicide,” Weintraub said. Upper Makefield Township police were called to the 100 block of Timber Ridge Road just after 7 a.m. on Monday. Weintraub says a 22-year-old neighbor told officers that Nguyen handed him a box of photos and asked him to give it to her ex-husband. When the neighbor turned around to face Nguyen, he saw her pointing a gun at his face, pulling the trigger twice but the gun did not fire. The neighbor then embraced Nguyen and was able to disarm her before she ran off and fled in a 2018 Toyota Sienna minivan. Officers spoke with the mother of the 22-year-old neighbor and went inside the home to check on the children. Both boys were found alive in their separate beds suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The officers rushed them to an area hospital in an attempt to save their lives. Weintraub says officials at Washington Crossing United Methodist Church alerted police that Nguyen was inside the minivan in the church’s parking lot. Nguyen was apprehended and taken to a local medical center due to the fact that she was under the influence of drugs. She has since been medically cleared to be arrested. While detectives look into an official motive, Eyewitness News learned Nguyen was set to be evicted after a judge issued an order of possession on April 14. 14-year-old boy charged in death of black teen inside a home in N.J. city, prosecutor says
A 14-year-old Trenton boy was arrested and charged in the March shooting death of another city teen, authorities said Monday.
The boy faces reckless manslaughter and providing false information to law enforcement charges in the killing of 16-year-old Tahaad Goss, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri said in a statement. The 14-year-old suspect, whose name was withheld because of his age, was released with an electronic monitoring bracelet to a shelter with 24-hour supervision, authorities said. Police were called to a report of a shooting around 9 p.m. March 31 and found the 16-year-old shot once in the face on the basement stairs of a residence on the 100 block of Liberty Street in the city’s South Ward, according to the prosecutor. He died at the scene. “There were other teenagers present in the house and a gun was found in the basement,” the prosecutor’s statement said. Authorities did not immediately provide more details about the circumstances surrounding the death. A 15-year-old and a 16-year-old are in custody, charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault in Jackson, Mississippi after they allegedly opened fire on a crowd at the Mississippi State Fairgrounds in Jackson during the Mudbug festival.
Investigators said they have charged 15-year-old Calvin Berry and 16-year-old Leedrick Trim in the case. Investigators said they retrieved a rifle and a pistol from the scene. A third teen, believed to be one of the shooters, was shot and killed by a deputy. Police have not released the name of the third teen yet. They also have not released the name of the officer. According to a criminal complaint, Fahie and Oleanvine Maynard, his ports director, had been at the airport to meet who they thought were Mexican drug traffickers but in reality were undercover DEA agents. A Cape Coral man has been found guilty in a case involving the sexual molestation of a child.
On Thursday, following a three-day trial, a jury found Benjamin Perez Rodriguez, 64, guilty on charges of sexual battery of a child younger than 12 and lewd or lascivious molestation. After a child told a parent about being sexually abused by the defendant in 2019, the parent contacted Cape Coral police and an investigation began. The investigation led to Rodriguez' identification. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office assisted, apprehending and transporting the defendant to Florida from Puerto Rico. A Shasta Lake couple was sentenced to prison on Monday for bringing a Guatemalan family to the U.S., harboring them until their visas expired and unlawfully forcing them to work for minimal to no pay.
The defendants, Nery A. Martinez Vasquez, 54, and his wife Maura N. Martinez, 54, had previously pleaded guilty in August 2021 to the charge of conspiracy to commit forced labor. An indictment outlining the allegations against Vasquez and Martinez was brought in 2019 by the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California. The couple owned Latino's Mexican Restaurant in Shasta Lake and Redding Carpet Cleaning & Janitorial Services, the indictment said. On Monday, Vasquez was sentenced to six and a half years in prison, while Martinez received a three-year prison sentence. Both defendants were sentenced to three years of supervised release and a fine of $25,000. The defendants were also required to pay $300,000 in restitution to seven victims. According to court documents, the defendants convinced the victims — a Guatemalan woman and her two minor daughters, aged 15 and 8 — to come to the U.S. in August 2016 by falsely promising them a better life. The defendants then exploited the family's immigration status and inability to speak English, court documents said. Authorities in Texas have identified human remains as belonging to missing 29-year-old Taylor Pomaski.
“The Institute of Forensic Science determined the remains to be that of Taylor Pomaski,” Senior Deputy Thomas Gilliland told Law&Crime in an email. “The investigation is still open and active and homicide investigators are diligent on bringing this case to a close.” Gilliland and the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office did not respond to a Law&Crime request for comment on cause and manner of death. Investigators found remains in December as part of the investigation. Pomaski disappeared April 25, 2021 after going to a party, authorities have said. Her family reported her missing on May 11, saying she uncharacteristically did not reach out on Mother’s Day, which was also her father’s birthday. Authorities have never announced charges in the case, but amid the disappearance, a prosecutor in Montgomery County, Texas, described her boyfriend sexpal Kevin Ware, 41, as a suspect in her murder. Witnesses said that Ware and Pomaski had a “violent fight,” according to KTRK. Ware, who played tight end in a brief NFL career in the early 2000s, allegedly began to no-show court dates in drug and weapon charges in Montgomery County, and was later arrested for that. “He was out on bond,” Pomaski’s mother Leslie Mandeville told KTRK in a November report. “He had his chance. He broke his bond. Philadelphia police officers arrested two suspects Sunday evening following a shooting incident that left a 13-year-old boy in the hospital, police said.
Elijah Simmons, 19, and Caresa McFarland, 32, were both arrested following the incident, which happened Saturday, and face different charges in connection to the shooting, Fox 29 of Philadelphia reported. The unidentified 13-year-old victim was shot in the head Saturday and was transported to a local hospital, police said. He remains in critical condition. The boy was not a target of the shooting and his injury is believed to be an accident, police said. The Arby's fast food chain is cooperating with authorities after an employee allegedly assaulted a customer with hot grease.
Shea Denise Peoples, an Arby's employee in Alabama, is accused of throwing hot grease on a woman in her thirties after a dispute in the drive-thru of a restaurant. The alleged victim had two children in the car with her, according to local outlet NBC 12. "The actions of the former employee in Hueytown, Alabama, were reprehensible," an Arby's spokesperson said in a statement. "We immediately terminated the offender, and we are cooperating with the local authorities in their investigation. Our heart goes out to the guest, and we are working to help support their recovery." The victim reportedly suffered second-degree burns and was rushed to an area hospital. Peoples was arrested for first-degree assault and was booked into the Jefferson County jail. She was released Monday on a $30,000 bond. Hueytown Police warned local outlets that the court system is backed up, and it may be a while before Peoples sees her day in court. "We are still collecting evidence," Hueytown Police Chief Mike Yarbrough said, according to NBC 12. "We have requested the video footage from Arby’s. We expect to get that. North Carolina infant siblings die after found unresponsive, parents arrested, police say
A North Carolina mom and her boyfriend were arrested Saturday after the woman’s two young children were found unresponsive.
Zharia Noel and Ahmene Butler, both 21, have each been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter with two counts of felony child abuse, police said.
Rocky Mount Police Department responded to a service call about two unresponsive juveniles around 9:20 a.m. Saturday in the 900 block of Drew St., police said in a press release. Paramedics transferred the two juveniles, who were 1-year and one-month old, to UNC Nash Healthcare where they were both pronounced deceased. Later Saturday, police arrested Noel and Butler. They each received a $100,000 unsecured bond. Police have not released additional details about the circumstances of the children’s death. A PIO officer was not available for comment Sunday evening. WRAL reported that the children were found in a parked car, but police did not independently confirm this. Police said their investigation continues and that further charges are possible once the medical examiner's office completes its report. |

Next, the Gulfport Police Department responded to the area of Magnolia Avenue and Rio Grande Street where Reynolds carjacked, shot, and killed 52-year-old William Waltman, a public works contractor with the city. Reynolds fled in the stolen vehicle and ran into Canal Grocery. Two employees managed to escape before he barricaded himself inside. Police tried to make contact but never received a response. A Florida woman has been arrested after video posted to social media purportedly shows her slapping her infant child in the face, authorities said.
Tya Posley, 23, was charged with one count of cruelty toward a child/abuse after police were alerted Tuesday to a "disturbing" video that was circulating online, the Sanford Police Department said.
Posley was identified as the woman in the video yelling, "Your daddy wants to post s--- right, he want to f---ing post s--- and not answer the God d--- phone. I hate your a--," according to an arrest report obtained by FOX35 Orlando. The report said Posley appears to slap the one-year-old child in the face and back in the video. After viewing the video, police said officers conducted a welfare check at Posley’s residence in the Windchase Apartment complex where officers located Posley and the infant. Police said investigators were told Posley’s alleged abuse of the infant had been going on for a year, the station reported. Police Chief Cecil Smith said the video, which appears to no longer be available online, shows that what the "helpless" infant endured was "gut-wrenching and infuriating." The baby was removed from Posley’s custody and placed into the care of Child Protective Services. |

A Dallas woman with a warrant out for her arrest who allegedly led deputies on a car chase shortly after midnight on Saturday was eventually apprehended in an apartment complex.
Marlene Choates, 26, was booked into the Suzanne Lee Kays Detention Facility and charged with evading arrest in a vehicle, according to jail records. She is also facing a charge for the manufacture and intent to deliver of a controlled substance between one and four grams in Rockwall County, which is just east of Dallas. A deputy tried to pull Choates over after he spotted her vehicle with the rear license plate light out, but she refused to stop, according to the Dallas County Sheriff's Department. Choates eventually got out of her car and ran on foot into the Volara Apartments parking lot, where police caught up with her and arrested her, the sheriff's office said. |

A jury found a 42-year-old Dayton man guilty in the deaths of three people on North Gettysburg Avenue more than a year ago.
Octavius Lamont Humphrey’s trial for murder, felonious assault and having weapons under disability started in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court last week. He was found guilty on all counts and is scheduled to be sentenced on May 11, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office. The case stems from the deadly shooting of 45-year-old Dontay Alston of Dayton, 48-year-old Michael A. Jackson of Dayton and 37-year-old Justin Wilson of Wilmington. In November 2020, Dayton police were called to investigate a shooting in the 2600 block of North Gettysburg Avenue. One of the victims called 911 and “was barely coherent,” according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center records. Within less than a minute the victim was reportedly no longer responding to the dispatcher. Major Jason Hall previously called the shootings a “targeted attack” and said it was connected to robbery involving drug sales. |

According to the Hall County Sheriff's Office, Porscha and her husband, Jerrail Maurice Mickens, 32, were arrested in October 2020, four months after their 5-year-old daughter, Kylie Mickens — who weighed approximately 7 lbs. — died at an Atlanta hospital. After an investigation and an autopsy, detectives determined Kylie's cause of death was homicide — more specifically, "dehydration and malnutrition due to medical neglect." In November 2020, Jerrail died in a motorcycle crash while out on bond. In court, Assistant District Attorney Anna Fowler argued that Kylie was "looking like a mummy" when she died. stabbed a woman multiple times while she was working at a laundromat in the Bronx.
Investigators say the horrific attack happened during an attempted robbery. Fellow employees tell CBS2's Natalie Duddridge the woman is still hospitalized and had surgery for slashes across her face and body. They also say they are scared to come to work, fearful the suspect could come back. Surveillance shows an unidentified man with a garbage bag enter a laundromat on Boston Road at 3 a.m. Friday. Police say video shows him rummaging behind the counter, attempting to get into the cash register. Then investigators say he pushed a 37-year-old female employee and stabbed her multiple times in the head face and body. "That's pure evil right there, pure evil," one customer told Duddridge. "It's sad to know that you're not safe anywhere," said another customer. "To know that you're trying to make an honest living and to know that you're attacked like this." Employees said the suspect tried to cover the woman, who lay bloody on the ground, with a laundry cart, then stabbed a 45-year-old customer in the hand and ran off without getting any cash. |

NEW YORK (AP) — A former vice president of the National Basketball Players Association was arrested Wednesday and added to a criminal case in which 18 former NBA players were charged with illegally pocketing millions of dollars by defrauding the league’s health and welfare benefit plan.
The rewritten indictment added Keyon "Drooling" Dooling to the case first brought in October, when federal officials said a number of former NBA players combined to collect about $2.5 million from the benefit plan.
Dooling, who was a union officer for eight years and eventually became its first vice president, was among three individuals added to the indictment Wednesday. Dooling, now an assistant coach in the Utah Jazz organization, spent parts of 13 seasons in the NBA as a member of seven different teams. In a statement, the Jazz said Dooling made the club aware of the indictment Wednesday morning. “It is a case concerning his time at the National Basketball Players Association, prior to him joining our organization. He has been put on paid administrative leave,” the Jazz said. “Due to the ongoing legal process, we will refrain from further comment.” The Jazz play Game 6 of their Western Conference first-round playoff series against the Dallas Mavericks at home on Thursday. Dooling was arrested Wednesday in Utah, officials said. Also added to the indictment were a doctor and a dentist who officials said were medical providers who facilitated the scheme. Dooling, officials said, “allegedly engaged in the scheme and recruited other co-conspirators to join the scheme.” All were charged with health care fraud and wire conspiracy for a fraud that authorities say spanned from at least 2017 to 2020. In October, a prosecutor said each defendant made false claims that ranged from $65,000 to $420,000. The updated indictment Wednesday said Dooling pocketed about $350,000 of plan proceeds illegally. In all, it said about $5 million in false claims were submitted, though claimants did not receive as much in proceeds. Dooling previously was the wellness counselor for the union, helping oversee its mental health and wellness department. He also wrote a book in 2014 discussing, among other things, how he struggled with stress after being sexually abused as a child. A Collier County elementary school teacher has been arrested after deputies with the Collier County Sheriff's Office say he placed cameras in the school's restrooms.
Diego Alberto Rojas-Pulido, 37, of Naples, was arrested Monday and taken into custody after officials say he placed cameras in the boys' restrooms at Pinecrest Elementary School, in Immokalee. Rojas-Pulido faces a charge of video voyeurism, which is when the offender is aged 24 or older and the victim is 16 or younger. That charge is a second-degree felony. According to a social media post from the Collier County Sheriff's Office, deputies said three students discovered what appeared to be a video recording device attached to a metal tissue box in the restroom adjacent to the classroom where Rojas-Pulido was teaching on April 19. According to deputies, on Wednesday one of the students told a school counselor, who immediately reported it to the school principal, according to the post. According to that post, the school district then fired Rojas-Pulido. The school district didn't respond to requests for comment Tuesday evening. Deputies arrived art [stet] Rojas-Pulido's home, at the 14870 block of Pleasant Bay Lane, where they found Rojas-Pulido attempting to die by suicide. He was transported to a Lee County hospital for treatment Thursday, where he was later served with the Collier County arrest warrant, officials said. BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WHNT) — A former resident of Tuscaloosa was sentenced in federal court Wednesday after instructing an undercover employee with the FBI how to transfer money to Al Qaeda.
Alaa Mohd Abusaad, 26, was sentenced to 90 months in prison followed by 10 years of supervised release for concealment of terrorism financing. She pleaded guilty to the charge in September 2019.
The U.S Attorney’s Office said in a press release that Abusaad instructed an undercover FBI employee about how to send money to mujahedeen, fighters engaged in jihad, between February and April 2018. According to an affidavit from an FBI special agent, Abusaa sent multiple messages to the undercover employee during that time. One of those messages said, “It’s [money] always needed. You can’t have a war without weapons. You can’t prepare a soldier without equipment.” Officials said Abusaad also advised the undercover employee how to send money in a way that law enforcement officials wouldn’t be able to detect, including fake names and addresses when conducting electronic money transfers. A man who defaced a Florida LBGTQ memorial has been ordered to write a 25-page essay on the Pulse nightclub shooting and its 49 victims.
Alexander Jerich, 20, pleaded guilty last month to criminal mischief and reckless driving in connection with a June 2021 incident in which he left 15-foot tire marks across a newly unveiled QUEER Pride flag intersection in Delray Beach, court documents show.
Jerich, with a Trump flag waving from the back of his white pickup, "stopped at the intersection and then intentionally accelerated the vehicle in an unreasonable unsafe manner in a short amount of time commonly referred to as 'burnout,'" said an arrest warrant. The tires left a mark more than halfway across the nearly $17,000 mural, which had celebrated its ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 12, marking Pride month and the anniversary of the Pulse massacre. Two days later, Jerich was attending a rally celebrating former President Donald Trump's birthday when he skidded dangerously across the intersection, the warrant said. Another person who attended the rally, who identified himself as a gay man and spoke with police, said that before Jerich drove over the QUEER Pride flag colors, someone had shouted to him "tear up that gay intersection." Jerich told Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Scott Suskauer during a hearing last week that he has "had problems in the past with fitting in," The Palm Beach Post reported. (Black) Mom accused of threatening Cocoa High School over lunch portion was misidentified, family says
A probable cause affidavit filed by Cocoa police on April 7 says Smith left a voicemail with Cocoa High School the evening of Feb. 3 threatening to “blow that mother [expletive] up” over the amount of food her son was being given at lunch.
The voicemail was just one of four bomb threats made to the school from February to March, prompting an FBI investigation after police found two of the threats were made outside of Florida.
Smith’s son, who was no longer at the school by the time the April 7 affidavit was filed, had been in a verbal argument with a cafeteria worker the day the threat was made because he wanted extra food, police said. An officer who claimed to have had numerous encounters with Smith as recent as January said he recognized her voice from the message on the school’s answering machine, the affidavit stated. Smith faces a felony charge of making a false report to bomb state property and a misdemeanor charge of interfering with school administrative functions. When Smith bonded out of the Brevard County jail Thursday afternoon, she embraced her sister, who told News 6 Smith was misidentified. ‘’She’s been falsely accused based on documentation that was messed up at Cocoa High School,’’ Andrea Johnson said. Johnson said the phone number on the school caller ID was not Smith’s number. News 6 called the number listed in the police report but it was out of service. Smith’s family also claimed the student named in the arrest report is not Smith’s son. ‘’It’s all going to be cleared up and we’re going to take care of her, but there are definitely some people who need to be held accountable because this is not the way that it’s supposed to go,’’ Johnson said. |

(CNN)Texas officials have identified Bishop E. Evans as the National Guard soldier who went missing on Friday as he attempted to rescue two migrants who were crossing the Rio Grande River.
The Texas Military Department (TMD) said in a news release that Evans, a specialist, is a 22-year-old field artilleryman from Arlington, Texas, and has served in the guard for almost two years. Evans was deployed to Kuwait with assignments in Iraq as part of Operation Spartan Shield before serving on Texas' southern border, according to the release. CNN reported Friday Evans was assigned to Operation Lone Star, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's effort to combat what he has called a crisis at the US-Mexico border. Roswell teen shot in both legs, HISPANIC man arrested
ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – A 23-year-old Roswell man was arrested for allegedly shooting a teenager late Tuesday night. Juan Silvas was arrested after police say he shot the teen during a fight.
Police say the two got into it over threats Silva made against a woman when Silvas shot the teen once in each leg. The teen was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. When police searched for Silvas, they say he tried to escape through the back window of a home. Silvas is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and child abuse. A South African rugby star died during a car wreck in Texas on Friday when a teenager fleeing a traffic stop slammed into his car, local authorities said.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - The Clark County Coroner’s Office officially ruled an 8-year-old’s death a homicide after his parents claimed he tried to kill himself.
(mixed-race?) Isaiah Gritz, 8, died March 20, 2021 from drowning and blunt force injuries from abuse and neglect, the Clark County Coroner’s Office said. His death was ruled a homicide. Leon Gritz, 28, and Christine Gritz, 29, were arrested in March 2021 in connection with his death. About 2:03 a.m. on March 20, 2021, Leon called 9-1-1 and told the operator his son, Isaiah, had put his face underwater “attempting to kill himself.” He was removed from the tub, taken to two area hospitals and examined. Isaiah’s body was covered in numerous bruises, lacerations and wounds, the report said. His mother, Christine, called the boy a “violent child” with a history of suicidal tendencies and failed therapy. Christine said Isaiah was previously seeing a therapist for this emotional trauma brought on by school bullying, but when the pandemic hit, all in-person sessions ceased. After that, his mother said Isaiah would slam his head against surfaces and cause other bodily wounds. But medical examiners discovered a “substantial head wound” hidden beneath a doo-rag and gauze, leading them to believe the boy’s death was not a result of suicide, but a gunshot wound. Christine said she was a neglectful mother in reference to Isaiah’s injuries, but admitted to no wrong-doing or physical abuse. When asked why she didn’t seek treatment for the boy’s injuries, she told police she feared being arrested. Leon, however, said Christine was the sole abuser and neglected to report her because he thought she would lie to police and implicate him. “Leon admitted to being afraid of his wife and how he failed as a father to protect his son from Christie,” the report read. The three men face felony charges of theft, conspiracy to commit theft and disregard for safety of persons and property. In another case, detectives identified Jose Hernandez, 48, who was modifying several vehicles to store fuel on his property. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said suspects in these types of crimes go to gas stations and use fraudulent credit cards and manipulate fuel pumps to dispense thousands of gallons of stolen fuel into modified vehicles and trailers. The stolen fuel is usually then resold locally or transported out of state. Police urge citizens who observe vehicles fueling for an excessive amount of time or see a vehicle that has been modified to carry additional fuel, to call 311 and advise gas station employees. BEDFORD, Texas (Gray News) - A BLACK Texas man pleaded guilty Thursday to the first-degree murder of a 14-year-old WHITE girl and was sentenced to ONLY 10 years in prison.
According to the Bedford Police Department, Jordin Roache, 21, reached a plea deal for the 2017 murder of Kaytlynn Cargill. Roache has been incarcerated since his arrest in 2017. Cargill was reported missing from her apartment complex on June 19, 2017. The next day, police identified Roache, who was 16 at the time, as a possible suspect after witnesses said they saw Cargill with him the day she disappeared. The following day, Cargill’s body was found in a landfill. During investigation, detectives said they found several pieces of evidence that lead to Roache’s arrest, including Cargill’s DNA and blood in the apartment he was living in at the time. Bedford police said the case experienced several delays caused by various factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Roache was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in prison. Following his sentencing, he was transferred to the Texas Department of Corrections. ST. LOUIS — A jury convicted a man of sexual abuse of a child Thursday.
Deonte Taylor, 39, was a teacher's aid at Lusher Elementary School when he abused a 7-year-old student in his office in November 2015. Taylor knowingly exposed the boy to the risk of infection with HIV.
Sentencing was scheduled for June 2. Witnesses included the victim, his mother, medical staff, detectives and a DNA analyst who found Taylor's "DNA" on the boy's body and clothing. A witness for the defense tried to support an argument that the victim lied about the assault. St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell said his office is asking the court to sentence Taylor to the maximum number of years in prison. Taylor was convicted of three counts of statutory sodomy against a child younger than 12 years; each count can get a sentence of 10-30 years or life— those must be served consecutively. He was also convicted of knowingly exposing a child to risk of infection with HIV— that's another 5-15 years. Taylor is still charged with hiring a hitman to kill the abuse victim, his mother and his grandmother. While Taylor was in jail, he approached John White. White said Taylor and a man named Michael Johnson offered him $20,000 to commit the three killings. When asked why White agreed to accept the job, the father of 10 said he had no intention of going through with it. “I could see how serious he was. And if he didn’t get me to do it, he was going to get somebody else. And maybe that next person would’ve done it. So I think I did the right thing,” White to 5 On Your Side in 2021. White met with Johnson in a north city parking lot and says he received a few hundred dollars as a down payment for the murder. “He was just saying 'I appreciate you doing this because Deonte needs to be home and I need my baby home with me.' He handed me $500 and said I had to get back to church because 'I’m the choir director,'” said White. The I-Team confirmed Johnson was the Choir Director of a St. Louis area church at the time. Lusher Elementary School is in the Hazelwood School District. The Florissant Police Department investigated the sexual assault. The investigation took several years, a mistake the department admitted. Taylor was teaching at Walnut Grove Elementary in the Ferguson-Florissant School District in 2018 when he was arrested in the case. |

Between where a 16-year-old Lauderhill girl got off the school bus and her home, police say she was forced to survive a box cutter put to her throat before being raped in a driveway last week.
Police say the “calm demeanor and the manner in which he preyed upon the victim” suggest the suspect has done this before.
That suspect, 39-year-old Jermaine Henderson, a 5-foot-6, 220-pound Miramar resident, has been in Broward County Jail since Tuesday. He’s charged with two counts of sexual assault with a weapon, sexual battery on a victim over 12 years old. No bond has been granted. Henderson bonded out after a 2019 misdemeanor arrest then forfeited that bond by not showing up for his arraignment. Henderson also had two civil writs of arrest for being in arrears on child support according to his online jail records. The arrest warrant says the 16-year-old girl looked at a photo array and “pointed at the photo depicting Henderson while repeating ’That’s him,’ ” multiple times. Crocs, a box cutter and a pickup truck The arrest warrant says the 16-year-old got off the school bus near the corner of Northwest 38th Avenue and Sixth Street and headed home around 4 p.m. on April 11. Surveillance video from a nearby home released by Lauderhill police shows the girl walking down the street as a white pickup truck pulls into a driveway in front of her. A man stops the girl and talks to her. The warrant says the victim described the man as heavy-set with hazel eyes, a beard, brush cut hair, around 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-7, wearing an orange construction shirt, work boots and khaki pants. She said he told her she got “from point A to point B pretty fast” and asked her if she was on the track team. He then asked if he could check out the multi-colored Crocs she was wearing. She put one up on the truck’s tailgate. He grabbed her ankle, she said, and put a box cutter to it. He told her to follow his orders and she wouldn’t get hurt. He then put the box cutter to her throat and walked her to the open front passenger side door. After opening the rear passenger side door to conceal them from casual passers-by, she said, the man raped her. Preservation and investigation The bleeding girl subsequently went to HCA Westside Hospital for treatment, met with Plantation and Lauderhill police officers, described the truck, then to the Sexual Assault Treatment Center for examination and a rape kit. Two days later, the warrant says, detectives went door-to-door in the neighborhood after walking through it with the 16-year-old, who remembered details such as where she crossed the street after getting off the bus and why she crossed where she did. On April 14, a resident emailed police that her surveillance video picked up something. After police viewed the surveillance video, a license plate reader search found a 2008 white Ford F-250 pickup truck with paper license tag DDI2994 later changed to a regular tag 28BMDQ. It was owned by a Plantation man who also appeared on a Plantation police department report from April 12. The truck’s owner had gone with a friend to USA Tires International to complain about work done on the truck and the disagreement got heated enough for Plantation police to be called. The friend actually had been the one to bring the truck in for work. The friend, the warrant said, was Jermaine Henderson. Cook County prosecutors on Friday reversed course and agreed that 44 convictions related to convicted ex-Chicago police Sgt. Ronald Watts should be thrown out.
Prosecutors initially filed paperwork opposing the effort to dismiss those cases, many of which involved officers who “had not previously been impugned in Watts’ nefarious conduct,” Assistant State’s Attorney Catherine Malloy said in court Friday. But upon further review, prosecutors decided that simply the potential of possible interference by Watts “raises concerns about the integrity of these cases,” Malloy said. Judge Erica Reddick formally vacated the convictions Friday, meaning that all 100 convictions for the 88 Watts accusers involved in last year’s expansive joint exoneration effort have been dismissed. Three other Watts-related cases that were not part of last year’s effort also were vacated Friday when prosecutors said they would not oppose their dismissal. As of Friday, Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx’s office has agreed to throw out 212 convictions related to Watts, according to a statement from the office. Watts and his team of tactical officers have been accused of orchestrating a decade of terror at the now-razed Ida B. Sadiyo I. Mohamed, 32, was ordered civilly committed in October for six months, meaning the second-degree murder and second-degree assault case against her in Washington County District Court was put on hold.
After her commitment, Judge Douglas Meslow on Thursday declared Mohamed competent and scheduled the next hearing in the case for July 13. Ahead of her civil commitment last fall, Dr. Colt Blunt determined Mohamed was incompetent to proceed with the charges that she killed Kawthar Abdi and injured her son in May 2021. Blunt told the court that Mohamed refused to participate in an examination and would not leave her jail cell for a court hearing concerning her mental state. Court records show that Mohamed has struggled with mental illness since at least 2013, when she was civilly committed for a year for treatment. She was similarly committed in 2016, 2017 and 2018, and last discharged in September 2018. Mohamed told police on the day of the attacks that she has bipolar disorder and had been off her meds for a couple of months, according to a criminal complaint. She also said she has been "paranoid and hallucinating for the last couple of days," the complaint read. She went on to say that she believed her children were playing games with her, and "she said she wasn't sure if her kids were the devil or a demon, which made her question if she should hurt them or not," according to the charges. Police responded about 12:45 a.m. May 26 to numerous 911 calls from the 400 block of Lake View Alcove and saw Mohamed chasing her screaming son down the street. Officers found Kawthar on her back in the street. She was bleeding from a head wound and was unresponsive, according to the charges. Emergency medical personnel took the children to Regions Hospital. The girl had a fractured skull and other serious injuries, and the boy had a possible broken arm and a large bump above his right eye, the charges read. Kawthar died three weeks later. |

4-year-old girl in Louisiana is dead after her grandmother allegedly forced her to drink a bottle of whiskey while her mother watched.
Sgt. L'Jean McKneely, a Baton Rouge police spokesperson, told news outlets the little girl's grandmother, Roxanne Record, 53, and mother, Kadjah Record, 29, were arrested April 22, each on a charge of first-degree murder. It was unknown if either had an attorney who could speak on their behalf. Officers were sent to a Baton Rouge home around 11:00 a.m. on April 21 after reports of an unresponsive child. The child, 4-year-old China Record, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. According to an arrest warrant obtained by CBS television affiliate WAFB the adult women were upset because the little girl may have drunk from a bottle of whiskey in the house, so the grandmother allegedly forced the toddler to drink the rest of the liquor that was in the bottle while the mother watched. PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Three-year-old Yaseem Munir Jenkins, who survived a shooting in 2019, died on Tuesday, SOROS District Attorney Larry Krasnersaid Thursday afternoon. Krasner says his office is awaiting the medical examiner’s report on the cause of death.
“We have reason to believe the cause of death is his original injury from the shooting,” Krasner said. Jenkins’ was just 11-months-old at the time of the shooting, which left him in critical condition. Authorities say his father, Nafes Monroe, used him as a human shield while trying to buy drugs with counterfeit cash in North Philadelphia. Monroe was arrested and charged with recklessly endangering another person and endangering the welfare of a child. The alleged shooter, 29-year-old Francisco Ortiz, is charged with attempted murder. Krasner says his office is prepared for separate trials for Ortiz and if Jenkins’ death is deemed a result of his injuries sustained in the shooting additional charges including murder could be filed. Ortiz is also connected to the 2019 deadly shooting of 2-year-old Nikolette Rivera. Police say the gun used to kill Rivera was given to the suspects in that case by Ortiz. (Black) Family Dollar worker faces murder charge after fatally shooting would-be shoplifter in back
An employee at a Family Dollar store in Texas opened fire on a would-be shoplifter, striking him multiple times and killing him, cops said Tuesday.
Antonio Batres, 21, is now facing a murder charge for shooting the 49-year-old man in the back after a “physical altercation” at the Houston Family Dollar on Sunday at about 4:30 p.m., according to Houston police. The "victim: was attempting to steal goods from the discount store when he was confronted by a group of employees, including Batres, cops said in a statement. Batres and the alleged thief then got entangled in a fight and a melee ensued. “Further investigation determined the victim had his back toward Batres, who then pulled out a pistol and shot the victim several times,” the release stated. The wounded man was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. He has not been identified. Batres was booked on Tuesday and was being held in Harris County Jail with a bond set at $75,000, jail records show. He is due back in court on Monday. |

The incident happened Saturday night at the Spring Grove Apartments in Taylors. Investigators say, Gregory shot and killed Grady following a dispute. The two men knew each other, but the exact nature of the dispute is still unclear. Gregory was taken into custody Monday night in Anderson County. For all those circumstances, defense attorney Chris Capozzi argued Tuesday, his client should get a break on sentencing.
He asked the court to sentence Edwards, who pleaded guilty to third-degree murder, robbery and conspiracy, to a standard range prison term of six years’ incarceration. But Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Elliot Howsie told Edwards that he’d already gotten a benefit by being allowed to plead to the lesser homicide charge, especially given that one co-defendant, Daniel Russell, was found guilty of second-degree murder, which carries a mandatory penalty of life without parole. “The break you got is that you’re not looking at a life sentence,” Howsie said. “Actions create consequences, and you have to be accountable.” He ordered Edwards to serve a total of 19 to 38 years in state prison to be followed by five years of probation. The maximum possible penalty for third-degree murder is 20 to 40 years. Edwards, who testified at Russell’s trial in 2019, was one of four men charged in the Feb. 21, 2017, attack of Ramadhan Mohamed. Mohamed, a 31-year-old Somali refugee, was working as a Z-trip cab driver when Russell ordered a ride about 2 a.m. to pick him up on "Climax Street" in Beltzhoover. Russell, along with Christen Glenn and Hosea Moore were at Edwards’ home nearby. They planned to rob the driver dispatched to the call, Edwards testified then. When the driver arrived, Edwards and Russell got in the back seat to distract him. Then Moore opened the driver’s side door and punched Mohamed in the face. Moore and Glenn then dragged him out of the car, and the four of them punched and kicked Mohamed. Although the beating stopped at one point, and Mohamed was left sitting up in the grass, Russell returned a short time later and resumed kicking him. Eventually, Mohamed was so badly injured that he stopped moving and was left moaning on the ground. The men moved him, and ultimately, Edwards’ mother called an ambulance. Mohamed died three days later of blunt force trauma. Kimberly Edwards testified briefly on her son’s behalf. She told the court that she struggled with drugs throughout her son’s youth. “I wasn’t the best mom, and I know that,” she said. “If I could go back, I would change who I was in his life.” When given the chance to speak at Tuesday’s hearing, King Edwards apologized to Mohamed’s family. “There’s really no explaining it,” he said. “Forgiveness is the only thing I’m really looking forward to.” “Mr. Edwards, have you forgiven yourself for what occurred?” Capozzi asked. “Not yet,” the defendant replied. But Howsie appeared to be unmoved by Edwards’ statement. “The thing I struggle with the most: He lost his life over something you and your friends wouldn’t do, trying to make a living to care for his family,” Howsie said. “It was just easier to take his money than go earn your own.” Howsie then read Edwards’ Facebook posts from the day after the attack in which he bragged about beating someone up the previous night. Edwards claimed they were written about another fight that evening. “Not only was it intentional, but you were bragging about it,” Howsie countered. “You got to understand the environment where I live,” Edwards said. Howsie told Edwards that he grew up in Wilkinsburg, and the he did understand. The judge told Edwards to envision his neighborhood where everyone got up in the morning and went to work. “Think about how that neighborhood would look,” the judge said. “It would be way different. “It’s offensive. This man lost his life working and trying to provide for his family.” Deputy District Attorney Ilan Zur told Howsie that Mohamed’s death is the most brutal homicide he’s handled during his time as a prosecutor. Zur also read from a letter submitted to the court by Mohamed’s family, who lives in Wisconsin. “Ramadhan came to the United States as a refugee seeking safety and a better life,” they wrote. They called him a sweet and humble man who was a good provider for his children. They asked for the maximum sentence for Edwards. “Our family is forever and truly broken,” they wrote. “How much compassion did they have at the decision to murder Ramadhan?” Glenn, 24, is scheduled for trial in September. Moore, 25, is expected to plead guilty to robbery and conspiracy, but there is no agreement as to sentencing. |

A mother and father in Georgia were arrested in connection with the death of their 4-week-old infant late last week.
Sydnei Moran Dunn, 24, and Marquis Simon Colvin, 25, both stand accused of one count of malice murder, one of the Peach State’s iterations of murder in the first degree, after authorities say their newborn baby died from extreme alcohol poisoning on April 14, 2022. A large number of additional charges have been filed against the couple as well. According to a press release from the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, an investigation began during the late afternoon hours the day before the child’s death. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution attributes the sheriff’s release to spokesperson Sergeant Ashley Henson. The sheriff’s office says it was initially contacted by staff at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in reference to an unresponsive infant brought by its parents to the hospital on April 13, 2022. Dunn and Colvin allegedly relayed a story to staff about the child’s condition that “did not make sense and sounded as if they needed to be looked into by law enforcement.” Detectives arrived and met with medical professionals to ascertain what they could about the child’s condition, the news release says. At some point, law enforcement apparently determined or learned that the child was suffering from having consumed too much alcohol. Then it was on to the parents. Dunn allegedly told investigators that she drank a lot the day before she noticed something was wrong with her baby and that the child must have come down with second-hand alcohol poisoning from breastfeeding. That story eventually fell apart, the sheriff’s office says. “She then indicated that the child’s father put alcohol in the baby’s bottle,” according to the release. “Once the child was unresponsive, she explained that is when they took the baby to the hospital.” [NNN forum thread posted by mkultra:]

Sellinger said the hate crimes violations charges were filed because Marsh is charged with willfully causing bodily injury to four victims, and attempting to cause them injury with a dangerous weapon, because they were Jewish. He is charged with attempting to kill three of those victims, including one he stabbed the victim in the chest. Marsh, who remains in the Ocean County Jail in connection with the attempted murder and terrorism charges filed by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, will have an appearance in federal court; the date of that appearance has not been determined, Sellinger's office said. DARBY, Pa. - An employee of St. Francis Country House is facing charges after they were accused of assaulting an elderly resident earlier this week.
On Monday at around 5 p.m., Darby Borough police say they were dispatched to the nursing home on Lansdowne Ave.
Upon arrival, officers say they met with an employee of the nursing home who told them that a nurse witnessed a nursing assistant, later identified as Ednise Dulcio, strike a resident. Police say the incident was caught on video, and that Dulcio can be seen striking a 92-year-old resident with an open hand while the resident was sitting in their wheelchair. After speaking with the witness, police say they learned that Dulcio struck the resident prior to the incident that was captured on video. Authorities say Dulcio was arrested in her home on Tuesday around 3:30 p.m. after further investigation. Feds link BLACK man to eight Bay Area bank robberies, some on the same day 
SAN FRANCISCO — Using tattoos, similar clothing, and a similar modus operandi, federal authorities have linked one man to eight bank robberies in January and February, court records show.
Willie Thomas III, 33, was charged with bank robbery, a federal offense, in a criminal complaint that accuses him of robbing eight San Francisco banks, some of which were hit on the same day. All told, authorities say that nearly $25,000 was taken from the banks in total. The robber targeted Wells Fargo, Chase Bank, Bank of the West, and U.S. Bank branches in San Francisco. In some of the incidents, the robber threatened to harm or kill tellers, using written notes, authorities said. Thomas was linked to the robberies by a tattoo and scar on his hands, seen in surveillance footage of some robberies, as well as distinctive clothing. Authorities allege Thomas reused clothing for multiple robberies, including colorful, distinctive pants and shirts. In one robbery, he allegedly dressed up like a woman, with a wig and purse. |

The video taken Sunday shows a white officer holding the clearly distraught youth from behind by his elbows, leading him from a sidewalk to the back seat of a police vehicle. Another officer says the situation is about “stealing stuff.” The man recording the video argues with police to let the child go. A Florida man seen on video attempting a broad daylight kidnapping of a child earlier this week has been arrested, and detectives say the suspect may have previously targeted other children.
Vinh Nguyen, 37, was arrested Tuesday, a day after surveillance cameras in the Azalea Park neighborhood of Orlando showed him approach a child, touch their shoulders and face, and attempt to lure the child into his SUV, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said. The sheriff’s office released video of deputies escorting Nguyen into a patrol car. He is facing charges of false imprisonment, luring of a child and battery. Detectives are concerned the suspect may be linked to other incidents, the sheriff’s office said. According to authorities, police are searching 22-year-old Isaiah Metz. Metz is accused of raping 4-year-old twin girls in Goldsboro, Pennsylvania. Metz is currently on parole for allegedly assaulting a police officer in Pennsylvania. He also faces numerous child pornography charges, according to court records. Authorities got a tip that Metz was at the Antonio Oliveri homeless shelter on West 30th Street near Eighth Avenue. A member of the NYPD warrants squad and a state trooper with the Department of Investigation - went to check out the tip early Tuesday morning. A fight broke out when the officers tried to take Metz into custody, with Metz biting the state trooper and hitting the other officer in the head, before managing to get away. Metz also goes by Decklyn McBride. He's described as approximately 5'8" tall, approximately 165 pounds, last seen wearing black/red pajama pants and a BLACK hooded sweatshirt. The killer who shot Jacqueline Avant, the late wife of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Clarence Avant and a well-known local philanthropist, in her Beverly Hills home during a burglary was sentenced Tuesday to three life terms in prison with a minimum of 150 years.
In March, Aariel Maynor, 30, pleaded guilty to the Dec. 1 killing and other related charges. He also admitted to shooting at a security guard, who was not harmed, on the property. Clarence Avant, 90, was also unharmed. When Beverly Hills police officers responded to the estate, they found Jacqueline Avant with a gunshot wound. She was taken to a hospital where she died. On Tuesday, Maynor, a previously convicted felon, appeared in court in a wheelchair, according to images. A short time after the killing, he was arrested in Los Angeles after allegedly shooting himself in the foot during another home burglary in the Hollywood Hills, authorities said. He was found with an AR-15 rifle at the scene of the second burglary, police said. Investigators said they found evidence that connected Maynor to both crimes and that he bragged about the killing to a friend on a jailhouse phone call. <----<⭐︎>----> BLACK Valley Forge Middle School Custodian Charged With Sexually Abusing 2 Teenage Students 
A Pennsylvania middle school janitor is accused of sexually assaulting at least two students after gaining their trust by giving them candy and other gifts.
Rushon Drayton, 23, of Paoli, Pennsylvania, is charged with unlawful contact with a minor, solicitation to commit statutory sexual assault, corruption of minors, interference with custody of children, indecent assault and institutional sexual assault. Drayton worked as a janitor at Valley Forge Middle School in Wayne, Pennsylvania. Investigators said Drayton began giving candy and other gifts to at least two 14-year-old girls at the school. “I was like friends with someone who, he would like give candy to a lot and he bought like Chick-Fil-A for,” a student, who we are not identifying, told NBC10. Investigators said some of the gifts and chats Drayton had with the girls became sexual in nature. “He was engaging in this grooming behavior and I can’t believe that other adults weren’t aware of what was going on because it took place on school grounds,” Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan said. Investigators said the mother of one girl looked at her daughter’s phone and saw Drayton’s messages. PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A mistrial has been declared in Philadelphia City Councilmember Kenyatta Johnson’s federal bribery case. The jury remained deadlocked Tuesday after four days of deliberations and could not reach a verdict.
