black bat A jury recommended Thursday that a black from Corona be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2015 killing of three people, including his father and uncle, officials said. Brandon Willie Martin, 27, was found guilty on Nov. 4 of the first-degree murders of his 64-year-old disabled father Michael Martin; his 51-year-old maternal uncle Ricky Andersen; and 62-year-old Barry Swanson, an alarm system installer who was working at the family’s home at the time of the incident, the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office said. A jury also found true the special circumstance of multiple murders, making Martin eligible for the death penalty, according to the DA’s office. Martin, who originally pleaded not guilty in 2015, is scheduled to return to court on Jan. 29, 2021, for the rendering of the sentence by a judge. On Sept. 17, 2015, police responded to the family’s home in the 1000 block of Winthrop Drive in Corona. They found the three men beaten to death with a black wooden baseball bat engraved with Martin’s name, officials said. - (Black-on-White) |

Homeless
foreign man Aditya Vemulapati
(from INDIA), who shoved migrant
woman onto NYC subway tracks held
without bail The deranged homeless man accused of shoving an innocent straphanger onto Manhattan subway tracks as a train pulled into the station was ordered held without bail at his arraignment Friday. Aditya Vemulapati, 24, was arraigned on charges of attempted murder in the second-degree, attempted assault in the first-degree, assault in the second-degree and first-degree reckless endangerment during the virtual Manhattan Criminal Court hearing. Citizenship
status of the FOREIGN suspect has
not been reported in this news
article...
Authorities say surveillance video captured Vemulapati attack the unsuspecting 40-year-old woman while she waited for a train at 14th Street-Union Square station at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Vemulapati, who was seen pacing the platform, allegedly ran up behind the woman and pushed her onto the tracks just as a No. 5 train entered the station. Miraculously, the victim was not seriously injured since she landed between the row bed and the rails. Vemulapati was arrested at the scene. “This case is a strong case. The defendant attempted to kill a stranger on a subway platform yesterday morning,” a prosecutor told Judge Keisha Espinal during the arraignment. “The only reason she is alive is because she landed between the tracks and the train was able to pass over her.” Vemulapati, who has only been in New York for the past few months, has no prior arrests with the NYPD, but has a history of arrests in Illinois, Missouri and Florida, which include violations of orders of protections and failures to appear in court, according to prosecutors. Vemulapati’s alleged victim, Liliana Sagbaicela, (from ECUADOR) was at home recovering Friday after the traumatic incident. “I saw in the video, the man — oh my, God, I can’t believe it,” Sagbaicela, a married mom of two daughters, told 1010 WINS Friday. “Is this happening? Now I understand why everybody and the police say to me, ‘You are alive for the miracles. You are a miracle.” The victim suffered a gash to her head that required several stitches. - Round em up - ship em out! - SEND THEM ALL BACK! |

Drug trafficker executed for
kidnapping and raping teen,
burying her alive A marijuana trafficker convicted of kidnapping and raping a teen – and then burying her alive – was executed this week at an Indiana prison, becoming the eighth federal inmate to die this year. Orlando Cordia Hall, 49, was put to death via lethal injection late Thursday at the Federal Correctional Complex in Terre Haute, where he was pronounced dead at 11:47 p.m., the Department of Justice announced. Court documents show Hall, who ran a marijuana trafficking operation in Arkansas with several accomplices, drove to Arlington, Texas, in September 1994 after a botched drug deal worth $4,700. Prosecutors said Hall and his accomplices went to the man’s home because they thought he stole their money and instead kidnapped his 16-year-old sister, Lisa Rene, after she refused to let them inside. Hall then raped the teen — an honors student and aspiring doctor — in a car and later drove her to a hotel in Arkansas, where he and his accomplices bound and repeatedly raped her, prosecutors said. The following morning, Hall said the teen had known “too much” and took her to a park where he and another man dug a grave earlier that afternoon, but were unable to find the site. One day later, on Sept. 26, 1994,
Hall and two other men took the teen
to Byrd Natural Lake Area in Pine
Bluff, Arkansas, where Hall placed a
sheet over her head and whacked her
with a shovel, prosecutors
said. |

member charged in 7 murders
The Justice Department has authorized federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty against an MS-13 gang leader charged in connection to seven gruesome murders — including the baseball bludgeoning of two teen girls, according to court papers. Jairo Saenz, also known as Funny, could be executed if convicted of any of the slayings, reveals a new filing in Central Islip federal court. Saenz, 24, who is the second-in-command of the Brentwood/Central Islip chapter of the Sailors Locos Salvatruchas Westside clique, is charged in connection to the Long Island killings of Michael Johnson, Oscar Acosta, Kayla Cuevas, Nisa Mickens, Javier Castillo, Dewann Stacks and Esteban Alvarado-Bonilla, according to the indictment. Best friends Mickens, 15, and Cuevas, 16, were beaten with baseball bats and hacked to death with machetes in Brentwood in a crime so brutal it sparked national outrage. Prosecutors announced over the summer that they’d also seek the death penalty against Jairo Saenz’s brother, Alexi Saenz, who President Donald Trump called a “bloodthirsty MS-13 leader.” |

'road rage' shooting:
short-tempered long-haired
'asian'? arrested for murder of
short-tempered (white) father of
three AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)– Police in Aurora have arrested a suspect in a road rage case that turned into a deadly shooting. Romeo Desean Thompson is facing charges of first-degree murder and possession of a weapon by a previous offender. Phillip Hunt, 54, was shot in the chest and abdomen, according to the affidavit, and died later at the hospital. Police arrested Thompson, 19, just a few hours after the incident at E. Yale Avenue and E. Brown that happened on Monday morning. Hunt’s wife, Donna, said they were in their black 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, stopped at a red light, facing eastbound on East Iliff Avenue, at South Chambers Road. Phillip was driving and Donna was in the front passenger seat. The traffic light turned green, and the driver of a dark colored Jeep Cherokee behind them honked. The driver of the Jeep Cherokee was later identified as Thompson. Donna Hunt told police her husband became annoyed that someone had honked at him and slowly accelerated eastbound on East Iliff Avenue. She said Thompson, then became aggressive and began to speed around their vehicle on the right side. She told police Thompson threw what she believed to be a Gatorade bottle at their car, striking it and making a loud sound. Phillip Hunt then pulled up behind the Jeep Cherokee that Thompson was driving, and followed it at a high rate of speed. Donna Hunt said Thompson was driving erratically and went through red lights to get away from Philip, who continued to follow the Jeep Cherokee on multiple streets in Aurora. Thompson pulled over the Jeep Cherokee near the intersection of East Brown Drive and East Yale Avenue and both men got out of their vehicles. Donna Hunt said Thompson hit Phillip Hunt with a black handgun — and then heard two or three shots. Thompson took off, but Donna Hunt got pictures of his vehicle, the license plate and his female passenger. It’s not clear if she will face any charges. Thompson was later arrested at a Circle K after getting out of the car and walking away. According to the affidavit, Thompson admitted shooting Phillip Hunt three times — and said two of those shots were fired after he was already on the ground. Phillip Hunt worked for a financial services company and was married with three children. A coworker told CBS4 Hunt was “a lovely man.” A GoFundMe has been set up to raise money for the education of his children. |

Serial killer Samuel Little
confesses to murder that once sent
innocent man to prison
Notorious African-American serial killer Samuel Little has been identified as the murderer of two more women in Miami-Dade County — including one case in which another man served 22 years in prison before he was exonerated. Authorities recently concluded that Little murdered Karen O’Donoghue, whose body has never been discovered, in the early 1970s, and Dorothy Gibson, who was strangled outside a downtown Miami hotel in 1977. Detectives say Little, who confessed to 93 murders and has been dubbed the country’s most prolific serial killer, admitted to both cases and there’s enough evidence to corroborate his claims. In all, the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office has officially identified Little as the killer of four women in the county, although he is suspected in several other South Florida cases. - (Black-on-White) |

Stalczynski was Sparrow’s classmate when they both attended Newark Charter High School, the Delaware News Journal reported. Sparrow’s parents reported her missing on Oct. 5. Three days later, cops arrested Sharp, Sparrow’s ex-boyfriend. Richard Prestidge, Sparrow’s father, mourned the loss of his daughter and described her to the outlet as “wise beyond her years.” Sharp, 19, admitted to police that he killed his ex-girlfriend by beating her with a baseball bat and then dumped her body in a wooded area along Interstate 95, court documents obtained by the Delaware News Journal say. A motive for Sparrow’s murder remains unclear, but Sharp allegedly said he and Stalczynski planned the killing. The relationship between Sharp and Stalczynski is also unknown. Stalczynski and Sharp have been charged with first degree murder, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and first-degree conspiracy. - (Black-on-White) |

quota He attended her 17th birthday party, prosecutors say SAN FRANCISCO — A Richmond man who was caught trafficking a teen girl, allegedly holding her to a quota of $500 under threats of violence, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison Tuesday, court records show. Kevin Fuqua, 33, allegedly trafficked the girl from at least August 2018 until his arrest in early 2019, when the girl was detained by Alameda County deputies on suspicion of prostitution. She initially identified Fuqua as her boyfriend but evidence on her phone suggested he was trafficking her, prosecutors said. Prosecutors also gathered evidence that made it difficult for Fuqua to deny he knew the victim’s age — he allegedly attended her 17th birthday party, according to a sentencing memo by the U.S. Attorney’s office. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge James Donato. Prosecutors say authorities recovered text messages between Fuqua and the victim that suggested he had been violent with her. “I just don’t see why you have to get physical,” the girl texted Fuqua, according to police. “Why you got to act like I can’t control my b—-,” Fuqua allegedly replied. “I understand the choke but that hit so unnecessary like you could have been like go back in the room and then did it,” the girl allegedly responded. |

INDIANA WOMAN GETS SIX YEARS FOR
FUNDING ISIS ELKHART, Ind.–A woman from Elkhart has been sentenced to six and a half years in federal prison for providing money to ISIS. Smantha Marie Elhassani, a.k.a. Samantha Sally, 35, will be on probation for three years when she gets out of prison. In 2014, Elhassani’s husband and his brother told her that they wanted to travel to Syria and join ISIS. Federal prosecutors say she helped them by taking gold and cash from the U.S., to Hong Kong and depositing them in a safe deposit boxes. On her final trip to Hong Kong, she traded for tactical gear, including rifle scopes and image stabilizing binoculars. She and her children then went to Turkey and Syria. The feds said she did not declare any of the gold at customs, and had disguised it as jewelry by melting it down. Elhassani was caught in 208, and returned to the United States by Syrian authorities. “Once again, the Justice Department has held accountable an individual who turned her back on her country to support a terrorist organization,” said Assistant Attorney General for National Security John C. Demers. “As Elhassani admitted, she made multiple trips to Hong Kong to smuggle tens of thousands in cash and gold, knowing that the funds would be used to support ISIS in Syria. We repatriated Elhassani from Syria because every nation is responsible for holding its citizens accountable and addressing the future threat they may pose. We will not stop.” “Samantha Elhassani was sentenced today for providing financial support to individuals who desired to support ISIS, a terrorist organization that has committed acts of violence against Americans,” said U.S. Attorney Thomas L. Kirsch II for the Northern District of Indiana. “She traveled with her husband and brother-in-law to Syria, both of whom became ISIS fighters, putting the lives of her children at risk. My office and our law enforcement partners are committed to prosecuting those like Elhassani who provide support to terrorist organizations. ” |

Pittsburgh murder convict who
escaped in 1971 arrested by FBI
in Michigan GRAND BLANC, MI — After nearly a half-century on the lam, a convicted murder who escaped custody in Pennsylvania has been arrested in Grand Blanc. The FBI Pittsburgh Division announced Friday that Leonard R. Moses, now 68, was arrested without incident by a Fugitive Task Force out of Detroit. Moses had been at large since 1971, when he escaped custody while attending his grandmother’s funeral in Pittsburgh. At the time, Moses was serving a life sentence on a conviction of first-degree murder. Moses' conviction stems from he and four friends throwing Molotov cocktails into a house in Pittsburgh’s Homewood neighborhood on April 6, 1968. Mary Amplo, 72, was inside the house and suffered third-degree burns across 55 percent of her body. Amplo died in July 1968 of pneumonia, with a pathologist testifying in Moses' subsequent trial that she contracted the illness while confined to bed and recuperating from her burns. The incident was part of the 1968 Pittsburgh riots, a series of disturbances that erupted in the wake of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 4 of that year. Amplo’s death was the lone fatal incident in the upheaval, with 36 others being injured, more than 100 businesses looted or vandalized, and 505 arson fires set. The unrest lasted through April 11, with 3,600 National Guardsmen needed to quell it. About 1,000 arrests were made. |

'Absolutely

Lakeland commissioner, husband

act - black
killer arrested
LAKELAND, Fla. — Lakeland Police say a former city commissioner and her husband were killed in what appears to be a "random (DEMONIC) attack". According to Assistant Chief Sam Taylor, David Henderson, 63, and his wife Edith L. Henderson, 67, were found stabbed to death in the master bedroom of their Lake Morton home after police were called for a wellness check around 5:50 p.m. on Tuesday. Taylor said at a press conference on Thursday that Edith's son called after he didn't hear back from her during the day. Taylor said the son went to the home and noticed things out of place, so he left and called the police. Edith, formerly Edith Yates, served as a Lakeland City Commissioner from 2006 until 2018. On Wednesday night, police arrested Marcelle Waldon, 36, of Lakeland. Police say he's charged with 10 felony counts, including first-degree murder. Taylor described the crime scene as "absolutely horrific." He said a random act like this is "extremely rare" and something he's seen little of during his 32-year career. At this time, police say there's no evidence to believe Waldon knew the couple. Police say a source led them to Waldon. According to Taylor, the source described items that were taken from the home, like jewelry and personal items. Taylor said a vehicle was also missing from the home and was later found set on fire in a field in another part of town. When police responded, they found the oven on as well as all the gas burners. Taylor said they believe Waldon tried to set the home on fire. Detectives believe Waldon got into the home through an unlocked or unsecured door. They say there was no sign of forced entry. Taylor said authorities believe David was in the process of setting up breakfast after picking up take-out from a local restaurant. According to Taylor, the food was still in styrofoam containers and inside a plastic bag on a table in the kitchen. He said plates, silverware and drinks were set up for two on the table. According to Taylor, police believe Edith was killed while David was picking up food. Waldon was still in the home when David came home. Taylor said they believe David went upstairs to check on his wife, and a struggle followed between him and Waldon that resulted in David being killed. - (Black-on-White) |

(White) California Air Force
veteran after he allegedly won't
give her money A woman in California was caught on video assaulting an Air Force veteran who had allegedly tried to help her after he wouldn’t hand over money, police said Thursday. The Santa Ana Police Department released the shocking footage on Wednesday that shows the stranger, who is believed to be homeless, kicking and punching the 62-year-old man shortly after 8 p.m. on Oct. 21. A police spokesperson told Fox News on Thursday the man told authorities he lives in a building on West First Street, which is housing for veterans, and could hear the woman yelling. The man, who told police he was formerly homeless and had previously served as a paramedic in the U.S. Air Force, thought she needed help, and let her into the lobby of his building so she could stay warm while calling for help. But when the woman asked him for money so she could get a hotel room, he rebuffed her and asked her to leave. Video shows the pair began arguing before the woman appears to spit at the man. He’s later seen re-entering the building, but the woman follows, prompting the pair to begin kicking at each other. As the woman holds the door open, they continue brawling, at which point she grabs him by the shirt collar and begins repeatedly punching him in the head and face. Police said the victim suffered cuts and bruises but did not need to be hospitalized. Meanwhile, police are still searching for the suspect, whom they described as being 20 to 30 years old and approximately 5-foot-2 to 5-foot-4, with a heavy build. She was last seen wearing a pink jacket and tan leggings. - (Black-on-White) |
Blood

(black-on-white)
domestic-related murder in
Tuscaloosa UPDATE: A 9-1-1 call and blood stains led police to an arrest in an apparent domestic-related murder in Tuscaloosa. Newly released court documents show deputies found 56-year-old Tammy Ledbetter dead on the living room floor of a house on Ridgehaven Drive after someone called 9-1-1 Monday morning about a reported drug overdose. Investigators said it was apparent Ledbetter had suffered a severe head wound. Court records show Ledbetter’s (black) boyfriend was found walking about two miles from the crime scene. Investigators interviewed Eric Marquis Fowler, who court records show admitted making the 9-1-1 call and being present in the house. Fowler denied assaulting Ledbetter. Investigators arrested Fowler for the murder after finding blood evidence on Fowler’s chest and legs which they believe showed his involvement. Fowler remained in the Tuscaloosa County jail Tuesday with bond set at $150,000. Fowler had been arrested previously on domestic violence-related charges in 2017 and 2018 involving Ledbetter but two of those cases had been dismissed. A Tuscaloosa County grand jury had indicted earlier in November for domestic violence in the third degree where Ledbetter had been injured. After finding numerous items of evidence and conducting interviews, Ledbetter's long time domestic partner, 28-year-old Eric Fowler was developed as the suspect and located. - (Black-on-White) |

MILWAUKIE, Ore. – A man suspected of hitting and killing a pedestrian in September is back in the Clackamas County Jail on $1 million bail after he and his girlfriend allegedly assaulted a witness in the case. Ricardo Thornton was arrested on Oct. 8 and charged with sexual assault after police said he forced a woman who was eight months’ pregnant to commit a sex act on him in July 2005, the Metropolitan Police Department arrest report released Tuesday. Instead, he drove her to a parking garage where he assaulted her, she told Las Vegas police.“(The victim) said the male told her about a gun and would smash her face into the stereo inside his vehicle,” according to the police report. “He grabbed (the victim) by the head and hair and held her tightly, telling (the victim) to unbutton his pants.”The woman reported the assault to police at the time and conducted a sexual assault exam, but the case was closed shortly afterward with no suspect . |

Nashville shootout
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A dog shot during a shootout that also wounded eight bystanders is heading to surgery on Wednesday, according to veterinarians at Animal House Veterinary Clinic. Metro police said Allen Crump, 22, was one of two men who fired into a crowd around 1 a.m. Sunday morning at Second Avenue North and Commerce Street. Several people were gathered in the area, when officers said two men began arguing over a dog that was with one of the men. The man with the dog pulled out a gun , according to investigators. The other man left, but returned minutes later with his own firearm and the two engaged in a shootout. An arrest warrant states seven bystanders were shot and another was grazed in the head by a bullet. None of the victims suffered critical injuries, police said. During the incident, the dog involved was shot in the hip , according to Joseph Pleasant, the Community Services Manager for the Nashville Fire Department. Pleasant said a bystander took the dog to an emergency veterinarian for treatment. Dr. Catrina Herd, owner and veterinarian told News 2 the dog’s leg is broken. “The bullet went through the front of the leg and out of the back. It did not shatter, but it did sever the humerus. Our plan today is to get her to surgery and get a plate on that leg. Hopefully, she will walk out of here.” Herd says the goal is to save the dog’s leg. The bone is broken, but she remains optimistic they will be able to achieve their goal. You can make a donation here. |

murder-for-hire case
ST. LOUIS — Federal prosecutors on Thursday announced another indictment tied to the 2016 killing of a man whose grandmother’s St. Louis-area soul food restaurant was the setting for the reality show "Welcome to Sweetie Pie's." The slain man’s uncle, James Timothy Norman, of Jackson, Mississippi, and alleged co-conspirator Terica Ellis, of Memphis, Tennessee, had already been charged with murder for hire for their alleged role in a scheme that led to the shooting death of 20-year-old Andre Montgomery near a St. Louis park. Fourth person indicted in Sweetie Pie’s murder-for-hire plot |
||
In August, the shocking case was unsealed in federal court, revealing accusations that Norman enlisted an exotic dancer named Terica Ellis to lure Montgomery outside of a home in north St. Louis where he was gunned down. Prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney's Office say Norman had secretly taken out a life insurance policy on his nephew in the years before the killing. |

Former Hermantown teacher "Schmaltz"
sentenced for sexual misconduct
A former Hermantown Middle School teacher apologized Monday as she was sentenced for the sexual assault of a former student. Madeleine Ruth Schmaltz, 30, was placed on three years of supervised probation after pleading guilty in September to a felony charge of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct. Earlier that month, the mother of the teenager overheard her child in a phone conversation with a woman that sounded "sexual in nature," the complaint stated. After checking the call log, the mother learned the teenager was talking to Schmaltz. The student's parents told law enforcement that the former teacher had given the teenager several gifts. A couple days later in an interview with officers, the teenager confirmed the situation with Schmaltz, the complaint said. The victim had been going to Schmaltz's house in Saginaw for homework and "mentoring". The complaint states Schmaltz "admitted to sexual touching of the victim on the victim's intimate parts and to having the victim touch her on her intimate parts." |

The investigation began last September after the boy's mother confiscated his phone and allegedly discovered inappropriate Instagram messages from O'Brien, police tell the Daytona Beach News Journal. According to the police report, the boy's mother set up a meeting with O'Brien in a fast food parking lot, where the teacher allegedly confessed that she had a "crush" on the child. She allegedly confessed to his mother that she and the boy had cuddled under a blanket on his couch, and that the boy touched her sexually. |

Rodney Eubanks was shot and killed after police returned fire. Police identified the detective who was shot in the leg and fired back as Det. Brandon Bolt, a member of the department since 2013. Police were unable to shed light on the seemingly unprovoked attack, but confirmed a detail that could offer a possible clue: Eubanks' older brother, Antonio, had been gunned down in broad daylight at the same intersection just two weeks earlier. |

After
(elderly White) LSU fan mugged
in Tiger Stadium restroom,
(young black) contract worker
arrested LSU Police on Monday announced the arrest of a man hired to help clean Tiger Stadium and accused him of beating and robbing a man in an arena bathroom. Officers said Gary Ramses Walker, 19, of 350 Delphine St., Baton Rouge, worked for a crew contracted to clean the stadium after the Tigers' game against South Carolina on Saturday. Walker was arrested on a count of second-degree robbery. Danny Dwyer had said in an interview with The Advocate on Sunday that he was beaten over the head and robbed after staying in the stadium following the game to listen to the Tigers' marching band. He said he was attacked in a restroom after three or four other men left the area. The arrest warrant says the manager of the custodial company that cleans Tiger Stadium was contacted by several employees who said Walker was bragging about the robbery. Walker had been assigned to that restroom for the entire game day, the arrest warrant said, and didn't show up for work the next day. Dwyer had said Sunday that he always stayed after the game to listen to the band, and feared his attacker may have been emboldened by the small crowd size. Because of crowd limits imposed due to the coronavirus, Tiger Stadium has had crowds of around 25,000 people. "Normally, there's 80,000 to 100,000 people at an LSU game. You're never alone," Dwyer said Sunday. "During these unfortunate times, with the lower number of people, there's more opportunity for a one-on-one encounter." He said that when he entered the restroom after the game, there were three or four men, plus a young man with a broom and dustpan. The LSU Police Department's arrest warrant says that one of the custodial company employees who contacted his manager about Walker's bragging was able to tell police where Walker threw the stolen wallet out of a vehicle he was riding in, confirmed later by police. - (Black-on-White) |

Palm Bay Man Charged with
First-Degree Premeditated Murder
After Deadly Shooting (of white
woman) in Melbournee
BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police have arrested a 30-year-old Palm Bay man for the pre-meditated murder of Jamie Francis Wright on October 15 in Melbourne outside 321 Tax/Lizzy’s Restaurant, located on the 1300 block of E. University Blvd. The murder suspect has been identified as Latavious Shant Johnson. Police say the investigation began when police responded to a shooting incident involving two men. Initially, police say they believed Johnson was a victim of the shooting; however, evidence collected over the course of the investigation contradicted this. “Investigators determined Latavious Johnson arrived at the location where he fatally shot Jamie Francis Wright and then shot her husband, Theron Wright, multiple times. Theron Wright attempted to defend himself and a struggle ensued between the two men,” said Commander Heath Sanders of the Melbourne Police Department. “Latavious Johnson was shot and injured during the struggle. He then fled to an awaiting SUV and was driven to HRMC by the occupants.” Authorities say Johnson was released from the hospital on November 7 and transferred to the Brevard County Jail where he has been charged with the following: - (Black-on-White) |

Judge
upholds Hibbing murder
indictment A judge has upheld a first-degree murder indictment against the man accused of shooting two people, one fatally, on Christmas Day 2018 in Hibbing, Minnesota. Jerome Dionte Spann, 31, faces a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole if convicted of the premeditated murder of 34-year-old Jeryel McBeth. He's also charged with intentional second-degree murder and second-degree assault. Sixth Judicial District Judge Rachel Sullivan last week rejected a defense bid to dismiss the indictment due to alleged grand juror bias, insufficient instruction and inadmissible testimony. According to a criminal complaint, Spann carried a handgun as he approached the group and allegedly shot McBeth three times, in the chest, shoulder and forearm. Spann continued shooting four or five rounds, striking 25-year-old Jamien Stuckey and nearly hitting another man before fleeing the scene, the complaint alleges. |

Philadelphia Man Arrested After
Operating Gun Trafficking
Organization, Making Straw
Purchases, Officials Say
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Authorities in Montgomery County announced the arrest of a Philadelphia man who they say was trafficking guns. A week after turning 21, detectives say Daniel Lucas of West Philadelphia went on a handgun purchasing spree, traveling hundreds of miles to Central Pennsylvania. In his first transaction, arrest papers claim Lucas bought four firearms from a single dealer in Mount Joy, Lancaster County. Montgomery County prosecutors were alarmed the purchase of the exact same make and model weapon triggered zero red flags on the part of the dealer. “Buying multiple handguns right after your 21st birthday is a potential sign of a straw purchase. Buying multiple guns of the exact same make and model, especially four, is a red flag sign of a straw purchase,” Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steel said. In a week’s time, detectives say Lucas bought 16 guns from a variety of area dealers. |

ILLEGAL
ALIENS violating MEXICAN border
Arrested Across Three
Consecutive Days LAREDO, TEXAS – United States Border Patrol agents of the Laredo Sector encountered dangerous criminal aliens with prior convictions of violent acts throughout the Laredo area of operations on three consecutive days. On the morning of November 6, Hebbronville Station agents arrested an individual east of town who was illegally in the United States. He was identified as Ever Moreno-Espinal, a 39 year old El Salvadoran national. Records checks revealed that Moreno-Espinal had been convicted on the charge of Rape of a Child under 17 years of age in October 2019 in Suffolk County, New York. The following morning on November 7, agents from the Laredo South Station arrested an individual in south Laredo after he entered illegally into the country. The individual was identified as Saul Hernandez-Cruz, a 46 year old Mexican national. Records checks on Hernandez-Cruz revealed a January 2016 conviction for Aggravated Sexual Assault of an Elderly or Disabled Person. The final arrest occurred on the evening of November 8, when Laredo South agents arrested Jose Alberto Sanchez-Toledo, a 26 year old Mexican national, for entering the country illegally. Records checks on Sanchez-Toledo revealed a prior Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child conviction in Dallas, Texas, in which he received six months’ probation. The incidents reported above show the lack of regard criminal aliens and their smugglers have for the laws of this country. The agents of the Laredo Sector are committed to preventing dangerous criminals such as these from entering our country and endangering the communities in which we live. They will be diligent as they carry out their duties of protecting the American people, safeguarding our borders, and enhancing the Nation’s economic prosperity. |
