Ex-girlfriend - a Cook County
Probation Officer CHICAGO (CBS) — A Chicago Park District football coach has been charged with shooting his pregnant-ex girlfriend, Stacey Jones, killing her and his baby boy, who was delivered moments before Jones’ death, but also died four days later. Corey Deering faces two counts of first-degree murder, and is was ordered held without bail Friday afternoon. Police and prosecutors said he is the father of Jones’ baby, and shot her because he didn’t want to pay to care for the child. “It appears that he didn’t want her to carry the pregnancy through,” CPD Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan said. “It doesn’t make any sense to go this far, but this is the way that he chose to resolve it.” Jones, 35, was found unresponsive on the porch of a home in the 2100 block of East 95 Place just after midnight on Oct 13. Jones, who was eight months pregnant, had been shot twice in the back, and was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. She was pronounced dead within minutes of giving birth, and her baby remained in critical condition for four days before he died on Oct. 17. An autopsy determined the baby boy died due to a lack of blood and oxygen to the brain as a result of his mother being shot, and his death was ruled a homicide. |

Since then, he’s racked up 28 more arrests, mostly in Massachusetts, sources said. |

man after he pointed a rifle at
the officers JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 34-year-old man was killed Wednesday night when he was shot by police after he pointed a rifle at officers in an unmarked police SUV on 63rd Street East, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said. The man, later identified as Justin Reed, can be seen on surveillance video approaching the SUV on the passenger side while holding the rifle. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Assistant Chief T.K. Waters said the officers had been waiting for detectives to join them on a local gang investigation shortly after 10 p.m. when Reed approached with the rifle. Reed’s fiancee, Shakeisha Watson, said the SUV had been sitting outside their home for 5 to 7 minutes and that Reed could be heard asking questions of the men inside. She said in the past, JSO officers have announced themselves when they were near the home, but that wasn’t the case Wednesday night. “He said, ‘Who are y’all looking for?’ Nobody said nothing. No police got out and said, ‘This is the Sheriff’s Office.’ Nothing,” Watson said. “Don’t try to make him out to be this monster, because he’s not. He’s protecting his family. I don’t want nobody standing in front of my house, parked in front of my house and you’re not telling me who you are.” Waters said after Reed approached, he hit the SUV with the butt of the gun. The surveillance video, shared with News4Jax by a nearby church, then shows Reed point the weapon at the SUV with three officers inside. The video appears to show flashes first near the back passenger seat, then the front passenger seat, followed by a muzzle flash from Reed’s rifle before an officer gets out of the back passenger side of the SUV and fires multiple shots at Reed, who falls to the ground wounded. |

Pair Arrested After 17-Year-Old
Girl Fatally Shot in Pompano Beach
Hotel Room A man and woman have been arrested in connection with a shooting at a Pompano Beach hotel that left a 17-year-old girl dead. The shooting happened just before 2 a.m. Wednesday at the Travelodge Hotel at 1201 Northwest 31st Avenue, Broward Sheriff's office officials said. Officials said the incident began with a verbal altercation between 23-year-old Jayla Leondrea Patton and a relative of the teen victim. The family member pushed Patton in order to close the door and that's when shots were fired from outside through the hotel room window, striking the 17-year-old, officials said. Deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded to the hotel and found the teen unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to Broward Health North where she later died from her injuries. Family members later identified her as Alisa Espaillat. Authorities said Patton and a second suspect, 19-year-old D'Angelo Cincord, fled after the shooting but were found by deputies. Espaillat's stepfather, Armando Gonzales, says the family was staying at the Travelodge Hotel when a woman came to their room looking for someone they didn’t know. “So I’m telling the girl, ‘Whoever you’re looking for is not here,’” he said. Gonzales says the woman reached inside the room, and he pushed her out. That’s when a man she was with started shooting through the window. The bullets hit and killed the teen. “They didn’t kill her,” Gabriel Casanova said. “They killed the whole family.” Patton and Cincord were arrested on murder charges and booked into jail, where they remained without bond Thursday, records showed. “These two heartless persons, don’t care for life, don’t care for nothing,” Casanova said. “They took her life.” Elizabeth Cabrera said they just celebrated Alisa’s 17th birthday on Friday. “I miss my daughter,” said the mother. “I can’t get her back.” |

and 10 silver dollars, Chicago murder suspect Juan Torkelson was on the run for barely a day when he found himself on the side of a road in Ohio and two police officers approaching his green Honda SUV. Inside his car was a 9 mm Smith & Wesson pistol, a knife, a box of ammo, around $2,000 in $20 bills, $58 in gold coins and 10 silver dollars, according to a police report. “What the (obscenity) do you want?” he yelled out the window, then grabbed the pistol, aimed it at the officers and pulled the trigger, the report says. There was a click but no shot. Torkelson revved the engine and sped off, the officers in pursuit. He crashed into a ditch not far away, got out, looked at the officers, then ran through a yard and into a field, the report states. Authorities wouldn’t catch up to him for about a week, when federal marshals arrested him Tuesday after he jumped out a second-floor apartment window near Oak Hill, West Virginia, about 240 miles down U.S. Route 35. He had a large knife but no injuries were reported. He remained in custody in West Virginia on Wednesday, with no word when he would be brought back to Chicago to face charges in a stabbing last year that killed Chicago graffiti artist Reinaldo Sanchez and injured three others in Portage Park. |

Suspect in Brooklyn wedding rings
theft linked to other robberies,
cops say The crook who allegedly robbed a former New York City mayoral aide and his dance-teacher wife of their wedding rings at gunpoint on a Brooklyn train this week is also a suspect in three earlier jewelry thefts in other parts of the city, cops said Friday. The unidentified suspect targeted the husband and wife, both 32 — who were with their 2-year-old son — on an N train between Atlantic Avenue and 36th Street in Sunset Park around 1:20 p.m. Tuesday. The crook, armed with a handgun, ordered the couple to remove their rings — valued at a total of $3,000 — and place them on the seat next to them, cops said. The couple and their young son — whose names The Post is withholding at their request — were not hurt. Just a day earlier, around 5:10 p.m., a 31-year-old woman was on a southbound F train at the West 8th Street-New York Aquarium station in Brooklyn when the thief grabbed her arm, simulated a weapon in his pants and snatched her ring, worth $95. And around 11:50 a.m. October 16, a 36-year-old woman was on a northbound Q train at Union Square with a 39-year-old man when the suspect demanded her pricey engagement ring. She complied, and the thief took off with the ring, valued at $7,000. |

Pistol-Whipping, Brutal Sexual
Assault In Antioch ANTIOCH (CBS SF) — An Antioch man and a Stockton man were charged as suspects Monday in what Antioch police describe as a “brutal sexual assault” in the early morning of Oct. 17. The attack and robbery was reported about 1 a.m. near the foot of G Street, where two people fishing in the San Joaquin River returned to their car just before midnight and were confronted by two armed men. “The suspects robbed and pistol whipped both victims. After doing so, both suspects forced the female victim to perform sexual acts on them,” police said in a news release. The attackers fled in a vehicle and shortly after attempted to use a credit card they took in the robbery at an ATM. Video surveillance from the scene of the attack and the ATM helped police to identify Kenry Lee Young, 31, of Antioch, as a possible suspect. “A reference sample of his DNA was compared to forensic evidence from the scene of the crime, resulting in a positive match,” police said. Young was arrested Oct. 22 at his home, which police said was near the scene of the attack. Detectives continued to investigate and identified Kenry Young’s brother, Lamar Young, 33, of Stockton, as the second suspect. He was arrested in Stockton on Thursday. |

Wilmington
police: Traffic crash led to
deadly Halloween night shooting
- BLACK 'SUSPECT' WHITE
FEMALE VICTIM WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Investigators with the Wilmington Police Department said a deadly shooting late Halloween night was the result of a verbal altercation that became violent following a traffic crash. The shooting happened in the 3600 block of Wrightsville Avenue just before midnight. Wilmington police say officers were in the area investigating a noise complaint when they heard gunfire and rushed to the scene. When police arrived, they saw a vehicle speeding away and performed life-saving measures on the victim, identified as 23-year-old Carly Rae Baron, who later died at the hospital. Officers chased and eventually detained the suspect, 21-year-old Jaquan Cortez Jackson, who was charged with second-degree murder. He’s being held at the New Hanover County Jail under a $750,000 secured bond. Police say Jackson was arguing with a group of people after the traffic crash and fired a gun during the dispute. “At this time, we do not believe the parties knew each other prior to this incident,” a spokeswoman for the Wilmington Police Department said in a statement Monday afternoon. “We extend our deepest sympathies to anyone impacted by this shooting. Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time.” Baron enrolled at UNCW student over the summer as a transfer student. A spokesperson with the university said the university mourns the loss of Baron. She was a junior pre-Communication Studies major. Baron was with the Uniquely Creative Model Agency in Wilmington for four years. One of the agents told WECT “this is a huge loss for us all.” There is a fundraiser put on by a friend of Carly’s to help pay for the funeral expenses. In less than 24 hours, it raised nearly $10,000. - (Black-on-White) |

Man gives 2 girls cash as ‘hush
money’ after meeting up with them
for oral sex COOPER CITY, Fla. – The Broward Sheriff’s Office arrested a South Florida man twice in recent weeks on accusations that he preyed on minors for sexual favors and are asking anyone who may have fallen victim to the same man to come forward. BSO Special Victims Unit detectives first arrested 22-year-old Keivon McBride on Sept. 28 on five counts of lewd and lascivious battery on a child over the age of 12 and under 16. He was arrested for a second time last Wednesday on 12 additional charges of lewd and lascivious battery, possession of child pornography and transmission of child pornography over the internet. According to authorities, McBride is known to meet young girls between the ages of 12 and 14 through Snapchat and then arranges to meet with them in person at various locations throughout Broward County. According to an arrest affidavit, detectives found photos and a video on McBride’s cellphone of a 12-year-old and 14-year-old girl simultaneously performing oral sex on him in the backseat of his car. Authorities said the video was taken sometime in June or July and the incident occurred in the parking lot of a church in Cooper City. Both victims told detectives that McBride gave them $50 each as “hush money,” the affidavit stated. According to the affidavit, McBride posted the video on Instagram, but it was taken down by the website after one of the victims filed a complaint. Detectives said McBride confessed to the incident involving the two minors, as well as to giving them money. McBride told detectives that he recorded the sexual acts on his cellphone with the intent to sell the videos to his acquaintances via Snapchat and Instagram, the affidavit stated. |

TERRORIST Vienna attacker shooting
man during rampage Chilling footage has emerged of the Vienna attacker firing an assault rifle at a man taking cover by a building – gunning him down and then returning seconds later to deliver what appears to be the coup de grâce with a handgun. In the 38-second clip, the gunman is seen approaching the victim as he fires from about 20 feet away before running up as the victim appears to fire a pistol at him and then falling to the ground. The assailant, dressed in white coveralls, then disappears from view before retracing his steps on the cobblestoned street, running past the wounded man, who is still moving, and then firing at him with his handgun. Unverified footage captured the suspect firing off bursts apparently at random as he ran down the Austrian capital’s streets with an automatic rifle and a fake explosive vest. He was identified as Kujtim Fejzulai, a 20-year-old Austrian-North Macedonian dual citizen with a previous terror conviction for trying to join ISIS in Syria. Two men and two women died in the rampage, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said, while 17 others were wounded, including a police officer who tried to get in the way of the attacker, who was later killed. Suspect in French Quarter 'ambush'
of NOPD officers booked on
attempted murder charges NEW ORLEANS — The man accused of shooting at two NOPD officers without warning in the French Quarter Friday was released from the hospital and booked with two counts of attempted murder of a police officer, booking records show. Police say 44-year-old Donnell Linwood Hassell was in the back of a pedicab headed along St. Phillip Street when he stood up and began firing a handgun at two NOPD officers sitting in their patrol vehicle, parked on Royal Street. One officer, 4-year veteran Trevor Abney, was hit in the cheek, just below his left eye. He was taken to the hospital with a bullet lodged in his skull, but was coherent and able to walk into the hospital on his own and talk after the attack. He is expected to survive. His partner, Brooke Duncan IV, was treated for minor injuries caused by glass shards shattered by the bullets. It was a brazen attack with no warning in the middle of a busy intersection in the French Quarter, at the start of a busy Halloween weekend. Police still aren't sure of a motive, but say there was no interaction between the officers and Hassell before he began firing. Hassell is from Georgia, and appears to have been staying as a tourist in a nearby French Quarter Hotel. After the shooting, Hassell allegedly took off, but didn't go far. Police chased him down to a construction site near the intersection of Decatur and St. Peter streets, about six blocks away, and arrested him without incident. Hassell faces two charges of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer. Each charge has a maximum sentence of 50 years if convicted, and more charges are possible. |

Woman
sues UBER for sex attack by
PAKISTANI driver A Westchester woman groped by an Uber driver during a late-night ride home is a “shadow of her former self,” she says in a lawsuit against the ride-sharing company. The victim, identified in court papers as “Jane Doe,” says the alleged 2018 attack in the back of driver Iqbal Hussain’s Toyota Camry left her with a fractured shoulder, post-traumatic stress disorder and years of anxiety and depression. “I lost all sense of safety,” she told The Post, speaking publicly about the incident for the first time. Nearly 6,000 women were assaulted during Uber rides in 2017 and 2018 alone, the company said in December. “I’m part of that statistic — those 6,000 people,” the victim said. |

criminal resisting arrest Tensions boiled over into unrest late on Friday following a vigil for an ARMED black suspect shot and killed by law enforcement in a city near Portland, Oregon, in south-western Washington state. Nearby, tensions flared between left- and rightwing protesters. Video recorded by journalists in a parking lot showed two groups of people shouting at each other. Some armed demonstrators gathered near a building they told reporters they were protecting. At one point, a group of armed right-wing demonstrators marched through the vigil. At another, someone in a passing car pointed a pistol at the crowd, Portland-based journalist Sergio Olmos reported. The crowds ultimately fizzled out near the vigil but hundreds of protesters later marched through downtown Vancouver. Windows were shattered, flags were burned and federal agents in riot gear surrounded a building – warning people that trespassing on federal property would be subject to arrest. Investigators said on Friday evening the narcotics taskforce had contacted a man suspected of selling illegal drugs in a motel parking lot and that he fled on foot with officers following. The man produced a handgun and the officers backed off, investigators said. A short time later, the man encountered three Clark county deputies, all of whom fired their pistols at the man, they added. the man repeatedly, reportedly fired his weapon at the deputies.
