He is also accused in special allegations of causing great bodily injury to a person 70 or older and of using a knife. DuPage woman says she fatally shot boyfriend after years of
abuse: authorities DUPAGE
COUNTY, Ill. — A 36-year-old woman is charged in the shooting
death of her boyfriend of eight years after allegedly enduring
years of abuse, authorities say.According to the Chicago Sun-Times, April Turner is charged with first-degree murder after she allegedly grabbed a handgun during a party in the Steeple Run subdivision near Naperville, and fired three shots at her boyfriend, Nicarro Laroy Drake. The 30-year-old was shot in the chest and killed, according to the sheriff’s office. The Sun-Times reports prosecutors said Turner told them she suffered years of abuse from Drake and “went ballistic” after the most recent incident. Turner’s bond was set at $500,000. She is due back in court on March 26. |

Orange County deputies were justified in firing their
weapons at an armed man who live-streamed the
encounter on Instagram last year, the Orange-Osceola State
Attorney’s Office determined after reviewing the case.Deputies were also cleared of wrongdoing in two other shootings last year, according to letters from Chief Assistant State Attorney Deborah Barra to Sheriff John Mina, which were released to the Orlando Sentinel this week in response to a public records request. In the Instagram shooting, deputies were called the evening of Feb. 13, 2019, to the Citra at Windermere apartments after 911 callers said a man, later identified as LaForest Gray Jr., was dragging a woman by her hair. Deputies found Gray and the woman in a garage. Standing behind a car, Gray refused to come out of the garage or show his hands despite repeated commands from deputies. The video showed Gray cursing at the deputies as they pulled the woman out of the garage. Just before the gunfire, he told the camera, “You’ll finna see this [expletive] live, bro. …I’ll take one for the team, yo.” Body worn camera from the deputies showed Gray pull out a gun and fire toward deputies. Deputies Bethany Rising, Nicholas Gramazio and Jason Martin returned fire, but did not hit Gray, who ducked behind the car. Barra wrote in the clearance letter that the deputies, who were not hurt, fired their weapons about 22 times. They eventually sent in a police dog to subdue Gray and arrest him. |

A previously deported gang member and a convicted sex offender
were arrested within hours of each other near a Southern
California border checkpoint Wednesday.Border Patrol agents in Calexico, across the southern border from Mexicali, Mexico, found a man suspected of entering the United States illegally near the Calexico West Downtown Port of Entry just after 6 p.m., a U.S. Customs and Border Protection statement said. A criminal record check revealed the man to be David De Jesus Leiva-Arevalo, 21, a citizen from El Salvador and a self-identified member of the MS-13 street gang with a criminal history. Another man, identified as Juan Carlos Castanon, 48, was arrested just before 11:30 p.m. 18 miles east of the Calexico border entry point. Castanon, a Mexican citizen, has a 1990 conviction for lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 out of Santa Clara, Calif. He was sentenced to six months in jail and five years probation. Both men are being held in federal custody. |

Florida Man Charged in Estranged Wife's Death
KISSIMMEE, FLA. (AP) — A Florida man and his father have been
indicted in the death of the son's estranged wife.An Osceola County grand jury formally charged Christopher Otero-Rivera with second-degree murder on Thursday, the Orlando Sentinel reported. He faces a possible life sentence. Otero-Rivera's father, Angel Rivera, is charged with being an accessory after the fact and faces up to 15 years in prison. Nicole Montalvo, 33, was found dead in October on property owned by Rivera, investigators said. The St. Cloud woman had gone missing several days earlier after dropping off her 8-year-old son at the Riveras' home. Montalvo never left the property, investigators said. She was dismembered and buried on the family's property using a rented excavator, deputies said. GPS data from Otero-Rivera’s ankle monitor showed him moving around the area where Montalvo’s remains were discovered. But DNA tests determined blood found inside the family's garage didn’t belong to Montalvo. |

swarmed three dozen sites in Southern California in a crackdown
on alleged operators of so-called “birth tourism” businesses.Such businesses can charge pregnant women from foreign countries as much as $50,000 for services that include lodging, meals and transportation to and from doctor’s office and hospital appointments, the Orange County Register reported. One such business that has been under scrutiny is the 28-room JR Motel, a former motel in Orange – about 30 miles southeast of Los Angeles -- that has been used as a lodging home or boarding house for women from China, allegedly in violation of zoning laws, local officials told the paper. Many of the women arrive pregnant and then leave sometime after giving birth in a local hospital --- with their infants becoming instant Americans under what’s called “birthright citizenship,” the automatic citizenship granted to anyone born in the U.S., as prescribed in the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. But President Trump and other critics have argued that some people take advantage of the amendment in ways that weren’t intended, so changes may be pursued to tighten the rules. |

(CBS) – The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office says a deadly shooting outside the LA Fitness in the King of Prussia Town Center last month was justified. Authorities say the shooter was acting in self-defense when he shot and killed 28-year-old Alan Jamal Womack Jr. after an argument on the basketball court spilled over into the parking lot. The shooting happened Feb.28, just before 10 p.m. on the 200 block of Village Drive. When officers arrived, they found Womack lying in the parking lot in front of LA Fitness. He died from a gunshot wound to the chest. Police say Womack accused the other man of a “traveling” foul and they began to argue. Womack threatened to shoot the other man in the head, investigators say. The man then decided to quit the game. Surveillance video shows he left the gym and was followed by Womack. Womack followed him, yelling at him, before pulling a Taurus 9mm handgun from his pocket, police said. A witness told investigators Womack racked a round into the chamber, while getting within feet of the other man, who then pulled a 9mm Glock firearm from inside his backpack and fired one shot at Womack. As Womack was hit in the chest, Womack fired two shots, striking two parked cars. Investigators say both men were licensed to carry concealed weapons. |

charged with conspiracy, bank fraud and aggravated identify theft,
announced U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Patrick.Julius Joachim Ohumole is set to appear at 10 a.m. today before U.S. District Judge Dena Hanovice Palermo. A Houston grand jury returned the seven-count indictment Dec. 19. He was originally charged by criminal complaint Nov. 8 and later taken into custody. Ohumole is charged with one count of conspiracy, four counts of bank fraud and two counts of aggravated identify theft. The charges allege Ohumole opened a bank account in the name of Mars Construction (MARS) Dec. 5, 2018, at Regions Bank in Houston. At that time, he allegedly used false identification documents which identified him as someone else. |

a 30-year-old man of sexually assaulting
12 women between 2010 and 2019.The indictment against Rafael Gustavo Alcon-Ayala resulted from an investigation by Portland and Gresham police and help from the public. Alcon-Ayala was initially arrested in January, accused of sexually assaulting three women. He pleaded not guilty to the charges at that time and said he didn’t know the victims when charged then, according to court papers.  BUTLER
COUNTY — A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a
woman last fall in Fairfield, according to U.S. Marshals.Kirby Cheong, 30, of Summit Point Drive in Miamisburg, was booked into the Butler County Jail about 11:10 a.m. Thursday after his arrest by the U.S. Marshals Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team. He is charged with murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence, according to jail records. The U.S. Marshals, with assistance from the Fairfield Police Department, developed information Cheong was in the 9600 block of Summit Point Drive and he was arrested without incident. Katherine Lobono, 23, died of multiple gunshot wounds and suffered other injuries, including ligature marks on her neck, according to the Butler County Coroner’s Office report. A seven-inch ligature mark was found on Lobono’s neck during the autopsy. Lobono had a “possible bite mark” on her right forearm and multiple contusions and abrasions on her right knee, according to Uptegrove. |

W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A warrant has been issued for a suspect in
connection to a deadly shooting that happened in Charleston in
2019.Charleston Police have issued a murder warrant for Lasalle Javon Burnett, 38, of Charleston. Idaho — A California man who raped a woman in her Boise home in
2014 was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison. Reginald
Burley, 58, will have to serve at least 30 years of that
sentence before he can become eligible for parole. Burley
was indicted for rape and first-degree kidnapping after the
attack, but left Idaho before police could arrest him. Just two
months later, he was arrested in his home state of California for
kidnapping a child. After he
was sentenced in that case, he was extradited back to Ada County
to face the rape charge. He was convicted by a jury in Boise in
January. Burley has an extensive criminal history,
including convictions for sexual assault, kidnapping, robbery
and drug offenses in California. |

Jones, 37, was convicted last month of misdemeanor assault after
he was accused of punching a New York City tourist who later died.Following a jury trial, Jones was found guilty of assault in the third degree, the Queens County District Attorney's Office said. Judge Joanne Watters of Queens Criminal Court initially scheduled Jones' sentencing hearing for March 18. Jones faces up to a year in jail. According to trial testimony, Jones was driving with a companion shortly after 1:40 a.m. on Aug. 5, 2018, toward their hotel in Long Island City. The victim, Sandor Szabo, 35, earlier that day had attended a family wedding. Szabo, who was also staying in a nearby hotel, appeared to have possibly shattered the rear window of the SUV that Jones was driving. Szabo then walked away from the SUV and Jones followed him, punched him once in the face and walked back to his vehicle and left the area, the DA's office said. Szabo was taken to a nearby hospital. His injuries included a cut to his chin, a skull fracture and other traumatic brain injuries. Anderson was on trial in connection with the Feb. 2, 2007, slayings of Hobbs and her son, Herbert Hobbs, 51. They were shot and left in a burning house. Anderson is charged with murder and arson. Anderson also has been charged with killing Evaristo Tovias Jr. on Nov. 5, 2006, and Christopher Moderow on Jan. 23, 2007. In a confession taped by Tulsa police, jurors heard Anderson tell how he made the mother and her son have sex with each other before he killed them. After shooting the two, Anderson and his brother, A.C. Anderson, 31, returned to the house, the video confession showed. "We would like to thank all the local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies that assisted with this homicide case that spanned over four different states. We would also like to recognize our Detectives, both current and now retired, who worked on this missing person case that today lead to murder charges. They never gave up on trying to find April and hold those responsible for her disappearance accountable." Cedric Joseph Marks, 45, of Belton, Texas and Kellee Kristine Sorensen, 34, of Lynden, Washington, have both been charged with second-degree murder. Marks became a person of interest in Pease's case in 2019 after he was arrested in an unrelated murder case in Texas. Marks had shared a(n illegitimate mixed race) child with Pease when they lived together in Washington. According to the criminal complaint, Pease had suffered abuse at the hands of Marks. In 2009, Pease left with her four-year-old son and moved to a women's shelter in Bloomington. According to the charges, on March 16, 2019, Sorensen told
police she helped Marks find Pease at the women's shelter in
Bloomington and helped with the abduction. She explained they
parked across the street of the facility and waited for Pease.
When they saw Pease get out of her vehicle with her son, Marks
punched Pease and put her in their vehicle. In the meantime,
Sorenson dropped the boy off at the women's shelter.Sorensen and Marks drove off to another area with Pease. At some point, Marks took Pease out of the vehicle, put her in a chokehold and later dragged her out of Sorenson's sight. Marks later returned, crying, saying he killed Pease and removed her teeth and hands to prevent a possible identification. Peng pleaded guilty on Nov. 25, 2019, to acting at the direction and under the control of ministry of state security officials in China. If convicted at trial, he could have faced up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The Hayward, California, resident admitted that while he was on a business trip to China in March 2015, an official of the People’s Republic of China introduced himself and asked Peng to use his U.S. citizenship to assist him. The U.S. was never at risk because the information left for Peng was provided by an FBI double agent who had also been approached for spy work by the Chinese government but decided to inform the U.S. government instead, prosecutors have said. Williams, 20, are both being held in the Rock Island County Jail on a $2 million bond, Rock Island police said in a media release early Saturday. Police responded at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday to the 400 block of 12th Avenue for an unresponsive infant. The infant, identified as Elias S. Austin, was pronounced dead at the scene. Foul play was suspected after the discovery of multiple fractures throughout the child's body, Rock Island County State's Attorney Dora Villarreal said Saturday. An autopsy conducted Wednesday in Peoria determined the cause of death was blunt-force trauma to the skull. The child also suffered multiple skull fractures, bone fractures, and other severe injuries consistent with abuse, according to Villarreal. Police obtained murder charges against Allee and Williams on Friday, according to the release. The child’s older sibling has been removed from the home and placed in temporary foster care, Villarreal said. attempted murder of a convenience store employee. The suspect is

setting the store on fire. He is 25-year-old Raymond Williams of the 2300 block of Ainger Place in Southeast, Washington DC. On March 14th, at approximately 3:55 am, Prince George’s County Police patrol officers responded to a convenience store in the 5500 block of Livingston Road in Oxon Hill for the report of a fire. The officers located the victim, an adult male who works at the store, suffering significant burns to his face and body. Witnesses advised that Williams had come into the store posing as a customer. The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect approached the counter with a cup in his hand containing a liquid that smelled like gasoline. He asked the victim for a pack of cigarettes. When the victim turned around to get the cigarettes, the suspect started a fire in the cup he was holding. As the victim turned back around, the suspect doused the victim’s face with the ignited gasoline. The suspect then jumped the counter and grabbed approximately 20 packs of cigarettes and ran from the store. The fire began to spread throughout the business. A witness called 911. The victim was rushed to an area hospital and is being treated for critical burns. PGPD officers immediately began canvassing the area for the suspect. The officers located him several minutes later at the intersection of Neptune Avenue and Kenmont Road in Oxon Hill. The stolen cigarettes were recovered from the suspect’s bag. He confessed to the crimes. The Prince George’s County Police Department charged Williams with attempted murder, first degree assault, armed robbery, first degree arson and additional charges. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections. A court commissioner ordered him held on a no-bond status. |

Three of her children were inside the home on Tuesday when a neighbor heard screaming. “We live downstairs and could hear everything, we could hear everything. Chaos was breaking out. I heard her say ‘stop, OK, please.’ She kept saying ‘OK, OK.’ She would run and then scream,” said Rolando Travrzo, a neighbor. Travrzo called police and says officers came to the apartment, but heard nothing and left. It wasn’t until hours later when a family member came by and found Jordan’s body. "Rest in peace to my sister. I know she may be physically not here, but spiritually she's always gonna be with us,” said Jordan’s sister, Fatima Smith. Police were looking for Jordan's husband, 26-year-old Kendreen Jordan, in connection to her death. Neighbors say he made one last appearance Tuesday morning before his wife’s body was found. Kendreen was arrested in Denton, Texas, city officials told KFOR. The family has set up a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses. |

Man accused of shooting at Lansing police sentenced A
man accused of shooting at Lansing Police officers in an incident
two years ago has been sentenced to 62 years behind bars.
Investigators say Michael Magik Jones fired at officers in
2018 when they stopped to question him about his involvement in
previous incidents.He was convicted of two counts of assault with intent to murder, stemming from the confrontation with police. Jones was also convicted of two felony counts related to his possession of a firearm. Police say Jones shot into a building on Mary Avenue near MLK on March 31, before exchanging gunfire with police in two different locations. Jones suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was hospitalized. Jones has a criminal record from 2010 when he was convicted for attempting to flee and elude police in Eaton County, and attempting to resist arrest in Ingham County, said Scott Hughes, an Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman. Jones was also convicted that year in federal court on a heroin distribution charge, Hughes said. |

BEACH, Calif. - A 73-year-old man from Long Beach has passed away
after being savagely beaten by a man whom he was sharing a
hospital room with, police said Monday.Long Beach police say Francisco Sanchez-Reyes was brutally beaten for unknown reasons on Jan. 31 at about 12:30 p.m. by 37-year-old Reginald Daniel Panthier of Long Beach. Sanchez-Reyes was taken to another hospital in critical condition after suffering major injuries to his upper torso. "The neurosurgeons at the hospital...said that our dad had multiple and extensive bleeding throughout his brain and they couldn't save him...Our hearts are broken as he left us unexpectedly!" said Sanchez-Reyes' son, Ramon Sanchez, in a GoFundMe page he set up to help cover expenses related to this heinous crime. Sanchez-Reyes died on Feb. 9 from his injuries. |

Teen indicted in 2019 slaying of 78-year-old

Birmingham teen has been indicted in last year’s slaying of a
78-year-old man inside his east Birmingham home.A grand jury on March 6 issued indictments against 19-year-old Eric Kindred for capital murder, burglary and theft of property, according to court records made public Friday. He is charged in the Aug. 29, 2019 shooting death of Louis “Louie” Zicarelli. Kindred has been in the Jefferson County Jail since Sept. 13. Initially his bond was set at $450,000 but he is now being held without bond. Zicarelli was shot to death that Thursday night when he opened the front door of his home on Ninth Court Circle South. It was about 9:30 p.m. when he heard the knock and responded. When police responded to the 911 call, they found Zicarelli unresponsive just inside his home. His wife was also home at the time but was not injured. Kindred lived in the same neighborhood as Zicarelli, who had owned the home for decades. Police said the teen is responsible for a burglary at the home earlier in the day and the theft of Zicarelli’s black Ford Fusion. - (Black-on-White) |
