New Jersey Man Sentenced In Case Of Dog Left In Cage With Tide
Rising FREEHOLD, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey man has been sentenced to a year in prison for leaving his girlfriend’s young dog in a cage at water’s edge in a rising tide. Aaron Davis, 36, wanted revenge against his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend, who had given her the dog, prosecutors have alleged. Jurors in December acquitted him of the most serious animal cruelty count, that he attempted to kill the dog, but convicted him of a less serious cruelty count. A judge said during Friday’s sentencing that the fact that the 8-month-old pit bull mix was trapped for more than three hours at Sandy Hook Bay in July 2018 made things worse. “This dog was watching his own demise with every wave and every minute that passed,” Judge Marc LeMieux told the Long Branch resident, according to the Asbury Park Press. Taking issue with a defense argument that no harm came to the animal, he said the dog “doesn’t have the ability to say that ‘I was scared out of my wits.'” The dog was rescued after someone walking a dog in Veterans Memorial Park in Highlands spotted the animal cowering in the cage. |

starved dogs to death, then threw them away in dumpster, police
say BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. – A South Florida woman neglected her dogs and then threw them away in a dumpster after she found them dead, police said. Devonna Hinds, 23, of Lake Worth Beach, was arrested Wednesday by Boynton Beach police. She faces charges of animal cruelty and unlawful disposal of a dead animal. A necropsy concluded that one of the dogs, named Karma, was emaciated and had been infested with hookworms. The necropsy for Paris determined that the dog had overgrown nails, dirty ears, dental tartar and had been underfed. Karma had lost 20% of her body weight, while Paris had lost 5%, the report said. |

man loses appeal in brutal burglary of 82-year-old for $300 A Plainfield man convicted of robbing and torturing an elderly man for $300 has lost another appeal of his conviction. Ronald Cherry, 33, was sentenced to 18 years in prison in 2011 for breaking into the residence of Kenneth Athey, an 82-year-old man on West Eighth Street and attacking him. He and two others tied the man to a chair and stabbed him, beat him in the head with a hammer, torched his genitals and chest, and then left the house with his credit cards and cash. Cherry, in his most recent appeal, argued his attorneys at trial were ineffective. In 2014, he appealed to withdraw his guilty plea, which was denied. The crime, which occurred in 2008, was described by a police official as among the most heinous he's ever witnessed. "This rivals, in brutality and callousness, anything I've ever seen ... in 40 years,'' said then-Plainfield Public Safety Director Martin Hellwig. - (Black-on-White) |

man charged with homicide, accused of attacking man on Mobile
Highway A Pensacola man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after authorities say he attacked a man and slammed his head into the asphalt, causing brain hemorrhaging that led to death. Larry Raymond Moore, 27, was arrested Monday and charged with second-degree murder in connection to the death of 35-year-old Jeremy Beebe. According to Moore's arrest report, Escambia County Sheriff's Office deputies responded Feb. 2 to a report of a man down in the 3500 block of Mobile Highway. They found Beebe with lacerations to his face and bruising on his body and transported him to Baptist Hospital with injuries that were initially believed to be superficial. However, the next day, hospital staff informed law enforcement that Beebe had sustained life-threatening injuries and was diagnosed with a brain bleed. On Feb. 7, Beebe succumbed to his injuries, according to the ECSO. Before his death, Beebe told investigators he had been behind Brownsville Welding on Feb. 2 doing drugs with a group of men who became angry and punched him, the report stated. The ECSO obtained surveillance footage from Brownsville Welding that showed Beebe walking across Mobile Highway in front of the business on Feb. 2 as a white Chevrolet pickup truck was parked a short distance away. Moore got out of the truck and spoke to Beebe before chasing Beebe onto the road, catching him and body slamming his head into the roadway, the report stated. "After body slamming Beebe, Moore proceeds to punch Beebe in the face two times causing Beebe’s head to hit the roadway with each punch," the report stated. Beebe was left in the road with oncoming traffic as Moore ran back to the truck. Investigators also spoke to a witness who was in the pickup truck at the time of the incident. The witness explained he was at a construction job site in Milton on Feb. 2 when he received a text message from his girlfriend saying that a white man was in his backyard and possibly committing burglary. The witness' residence was on Lee Street, approximately four blocks away from Brownsville Welding, and photos from his home surveillance system identified the man in the backyard as Beebe, the report stated. The men in the truck found Beebe and again asked him what he had been doing in the backyard. According to the arrest report, Beebe then said he was sorry and threw his wallet on the ground. The witness told investigators that a "random" black man then rode up on a bicycle and began to chase Beebe. - (Black-on-White) |

felony rape and kidnapping charges (CNN)Two Ohio State football players are accused of raping a woman in a Columbus apartment complex last week, and one of the men allegedly told her to say in a video recording afterward that the acts were consensual, according to criminal complaints. (Black footballers) Amir Riep and Jahsen Wint, both 21 and due to be seniors next season, were arrested early Wednesday on felony charges of rape and kidnapping, according to Franklin County online jail records. "We are aware that two of our students have been arrested and criminally charged," an Ohio State University representative told CNN. Riep and the accuser initially were having consensual sex, but she "stopped and moved away after a brief time stating she did not want to continue," a Columbus police detective wrote in an affidavit accompanying the complaint. Wint then entered the room, and Riep, after asking her if Wint could join them, then grabbed her by the neck, held her down and raped her. Riep then restrained the woman while Wint forced her to have oral sex with Wint, the affidavit reads. Both men stopped after several minutes, and Riep told the woman "she needed to give her name and say it was consensual on video recording." Riep then recorded the woman, who asked him if he wanted to record her face, since she was crying, the affidavit reads.. Riep laughed, said no, and told her to just say it was consensual. |

cop punched at his Nashville birthday party after red cap
mistaken for MAGA hat A former NYPD detective says a woman punched him in the face in Nashville over the weekend because his hat looked like a MAGA cap. Staten Island resident Daniel Sprague wrote on Facebook that he was celebrating his 50th birthday with friends and family at The Stage on Broadway on Friday when he was assaulted by a woman he didn’t know. “A misguided soul possibly not alone, who I’m assuming was not very literate, spun me around, punch [sic] me in the face and grabbing [sic] my hat while she was yelling ‘how dare you’ leading me to think she thought it was a MAGA hat,” Sprague wrote on Facebook. In reality, his cap was emblazoned with the words “Make Fifty Great Again” — although his shirt was decorated with an American flag that read “Making America Great Since 1970.” |

NEWS TO KILL TRUMP FANS A Florida man who rammed his van into a Republican Party voter registration tent on Saturday told deputies he did not like President Trump and “someone had to take a stand,” an arrest report said. Gregory Timm, 27, said he noticed the tent set up in a Walmart parking lot in Jacksonville when he went to buy food and cigarettes, according to a less-redacted version of the report released Tuesday. He said he drove to the tent after leaving the store. The report details what may have motivated Timm’s alleged assault. He told deputies that he “does not like President Trump” and “the other reason was because ‘it’s like someone s******* on your grave,’” the account said. |

suspect in outlet mall shooting returned to kill manager hours
after he was fired, police say Daniel Everett had list of other employees who complained about him in past ORLANDO, Fla. – The man wanted in connection with a deadly shooting at the Orlando International Premium Outlets was fired from the store where the slaying took place just hours before, according to police. Orlando police said 46-year-old Daniel Everett worked at the Under Armour store for about three years as a manager before he was fired Monday morning. Hours later, he returned to the store, fatally shot a manager and fled, according to police. Police said they do believe the woman was targeted. She has since been identified as Eunice Marie Vazquez. “We do believe that his target was intended. He had no other plan, we believe, when he came to the store other than to do what he did,” Orlando Police Chief Orlando Rolon said. Shortly after the shooting, police learned that Everett had made a list of employees’ names after he was terminated and e-mailed the list to the people whose names were on it. Rolon said the list consisted of names of employees who had complained about Everett in the past. Police contacted each person listed to make sure they were safe and will remain in contact with them, department officials said. It’s unclear what led to Everett’s termination. - (Black-on-White-Hispanic) |

arrested for violent kidnapping and rape, police say MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Tommy Brown was arrested after police said he forced a woman into his car, took her to a house, and raped her several times. According to arrest records, a woman was walking on Looney near Dunlap Street when a man drove up next to her and asked her for a date for $25. She told him she doesn’t do that and then he got out, grabbed her by the shirt, and put her in the car, court records said. When they got to the home, he made her take off her clothes and forced her to have sex with him. The details of the rape are too graphic to share. But, arrest records said she was raped three different times. After the brutal attacks, he told her she had to be with him willingly or he would tie her up with zip ties and handcuffs in the basement, police said. She agreed and when he dropped her off at her work, she immediately told her boss and went for medical help. |

Police Sergeant Freed After Years Without Charges In Child Porn
Probe - he would not unlock his 'drives' HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A former Philadelphia Police sergeant has been released after spending more than four years in jail without charges because he failed to unlock two of his hard drives for investigators who suspected he’d stored child pornography on them, his lawyer said Friday. The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 2-1 Thursday that federal law allows the government to hold someone for no longer than 18 months for civil contempt. The appeals court directed that Francis Rawls be set free. Rawls had been in federal custody since September 2015 because investigators could not read a pair of external hard drives that they suspect contain child pornography files. He has maintained that he does not know the passwords, according to his lawyer, Keith M. Donoghue with the Philadelphia-based Federal Community Defender Office. |

'Raphael Lolos' Gets Life Term Imposed in 2017 NJ Murder,
Dismemberment of Ex-girlfriend A New Jersey man convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend and business partner almost three years ago and dumping her dismembered remains in a waterway has been sentenced to life in prison. Raphael Lolos, 43, was given the maximum sentence Friday in the death of 31-year-old Jenny Londono, NorthJersey.com reported. Bergen County prosecutors said she was killed in her Edgewater apartment and her remains dumped in the Hudson River in the summer of 2017. Prosecutors said Lolos was enraged by suspicions that Londono was seeing someone else and the two argued about money at the Englewood bar they opened less than a year earlier. He bought garbage bags and two meat cleavers shortly after she went missing, and her DNA was found on one of the cleavers in her apartment, they said. |
