cop cleared in fatal shooting of black teen in Pittsburgh  PITTSBURGH
– A jury acquitted a white former police officer Friday in the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager as he was fleeing a high-stakes traffic stop outside Pittsburgh, a confrontation that was captured on video and led to weeks of unrest. Former East Pittsburgh Police Officer Michael Rosfeld was charged with homicide for killing Antwon Rose II last June. Rose was riding in an unlicensed taxi that had been involved in a drive-by shooting when Rosfeld pulled the car over and shot the 17-year-old in the back, arm and side of the face as he ran away. The panel of seven men and five women – including three black jurors – saw video of the fatal confrontation, which showed Rose falling to the ground after being hit. The acquittal came after fewer than four hours of deliberations on the fourth day of the trial. |

LOUIS • A local photographer had plans to get married before he was shot and killed on Cherokee Street this week in what police described as a random robbery.James Sapone, 48, who went by Anthony, was about to go out to dinner with his fiancée, Amy Sprandel, about 9 p.m. Monday in the 2700 block of Cherokee Street when they were approached by a man, Sprandel said Wednesday afternoon. “Anthony had opened the car door for me like he always did,” said Sprandel. “And this man walks up and they started having words. Anthony stood up for himself. That’s who he was — he didn’t back down.” The man was attempting to rob Sapone, when a woman approached Sprandel and fought with her, trying to take her purse, Sprandel said. “She was actually smiling at me,” Sprandel said. Soon Sprandel heard a loud bang, and the attackers ran off. Sapone had been shot and was lying on the ground. She called 911 and tried to give him CPR, but he stopped breathing before EMS arrived, Sprandel said. “We were celebrating our one year anniversary,” she said. “He had shown me the ring he was going to buy. I’m just ... devastated.” The male suspect is described as in his early to mid-30s, 5 feet, 9 inches, or 5 feet, 10 inches, with a medium build and a medium complexion, shoulder length braids or dreadlocks, wearing a grey hoodie and armed with a handgun. — A man is in the Hamilton County Jail accused of punching random people in the face and head downtown. Cincinnati police believe that man was having a violent mental health episode. Investigators said four people were punched along West Sixth Street. It all came unexpectedly, but luckily the victims all walked away. "He was actually going across the street. Whatever person he (saw), he just ran up and hit them," Ingram-Price said. Cincinnati police believe Ledavid Beasley was having a violent mental health episode, leading to four

Cobb County man sentenced to life in prison after attacking, raping woman  Cobb
County, GA (CBS46) A Cobb County man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after being convicted of attacking a raping a woman at her home in 2017. Shian Alexander Martin, 41, was sentenced on Thursday to life in prison without parole, plus 20 years on probation. The sentence stems from an incident on February 20, 2017. Police say Martin and the woman were at her apartment on Windy Hill Road in Marietta when the woman allegedly refused to have sex him. Martin then grabbed a knife and held it to her throat, cutting, strangling and raping the woman for several hours. Martin has previous arrests for auto entering, robbery, theft and drugs. | ||

N.M. — The Albuquerque Police Department sex crimes unit said that DNA from a backlogged rape kit in 2015 matched Nicolas Williams, who has now been arrested twice this month for rape charges. He was arrested again on Wednesday. He has been wanted for raping numerous women along Central Avenue. He is expected to stay behind bars until he goes before a district court judge. However, after that first arrest on March 1, Williams was let out of jail to wait for his trial. He was back on the streets doing the same thing. |

are looking for a man who attacked and raped a victim last week at the Metro Red Line Station in East Hollywood. Philly Man Pleads Guilty to Killing Chinese Victim Outside Haverford Township Apartment    A Philadelphia man pleaded guilty to shooting and killing a victim in a quiet Delaware County community less than an hour after firing 17 shots at two men.Derrick Rollins, 25, was convicted Thursday of murder, attempted homicide and aggravated assault. On July 29, 2017, Rollins shot John Le, 29, in the chest and hand outside a building on the 2300 block of Haverford Road in Haverford Township. Le was taken to Lankenau Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. About a half hour before Le’s murder, Rollins tried to kill two men in Philadelphia’s Overbrook Park section. Sanford, 33, or Panola County, according to the coroner. He was rushed to the hospital but did not survive. here were two children inside the home when the shooting took place. FOX13's Tom Dees has confirmed Travis Sanford was a former boyfriend of Jessica Chambers, a 19-year-old who was burned alive on a back road in Panola County in 2014. Quinton Tellis is charged with her murder and the case has gone to trial twice, but each time a mistrial was declared because the jury couldn't reach a unanimous decision. Jessica's mother told FOX13's Tom Dees Sanford was the teen's boyfriend at the time of her murder. armor saved Texas deputy shot multiple times EL PASO, Texas – A West Texas sheriff's deputy was critically wounded Friday after being shot multiple times during a traffic stop, but authorities credited the body armor with saving his life.El Paso County Sheriff's Office spokesman Robert Flores identified the wounded deputy as Peter Herrera. He was shot around 1:50 a.m. Friday after he stopped a vehicle in San Elizario, southeast of El Paso along the U.S.-Mexico border. A man in the vehicle started shooting at Herrera after the deputy asked the driver to step out of the car, authorities said. Herrera did not return fire, Flores said, and the shooter fled on foot along with a female passenger. Deputies found the pair hiding in a tool shed a few blocks away from where the deputy was shot, Flores said. "Thankfully he was wearing a vest," Flores said. "The rounds that actually struck some of the more vital areas of his upper body were stopped by the vest." One round did strike Herrera in the upper thigh and another grazed his head, Flores said. Herrera was listed in critical but stable condition after undergoing surgery and was recovering in an area hospital. The suspected gunman, Facundo Chavez, 27, was booked into the El Paso County Jail without bond on attempted capital murder of a peace officer and other charges. The indictment accuses Cruz Palacios-Romero of 40 counts of first-degree rape, 39 counts of incest, and two counts of third-degree sexual abuse. The investigation started March 10 when investigators were called to a Northeast Portland home on reports that a minor was being abused. Authorities say the girl is younger than 15. District attorney’s office spokesperson Brent Weisberg said that she underwent a physical examination and forensic interview at CARES Northwest. Exzavier Dawson, a 24-year-old Ocala man was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree murder in connection with a March 25, 2015, armed home invasion that resulted in the death of a 30-year-old man. A grand jury indictment charges Dawson in the killing of Robert Jason Wilson and the burglary of a dwelling with a firearm. Dawson is the second person arrested in the case. An April 1, 2015, MCSO press release states that Tykheem Weldon, then a juvenile, now 20, was arrested and charged in the home invasion and murder of Wilson following an investigation. Weldon told detectives he and two other suspects entered a home in the 8000 block of Southeast 88th Place through a window and went to Wilson’s bedroom and the bedroom of a person who survived “and opened fire,” killing Wilson. Weldon said he hid in a closet and then crawled out a window with “two other suspects.” He claimed he was promised $500 by the other suspects to “participate in the armed home invasion,” the release states Weldon was indicted for first-degree felony murder and burglary of a dwelling with a firearm and was charged as an adult, according to an April 21, 2018, Star-Banner article. Jennings man charged with fatal stabbing on I-70   CLAYTON,
Mo. – The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged a Jennings man Monday for the stabbing death of a woman that resulted in the closure of westbound Interstate 70 near Lucas and Hunt. According to Officer Benjamin Granda, a spokesman for the St. Louis County Police Department, the victim was banging on the door of a home in the 5200 block of College Avenue at around 3:40 a.m. When police arrived, they found her suffering from several stab wounds. She was rushed to a hospital where she later died. Investigators found the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Derrick Sanders Jr.,
at another hospital with knife wounds to his hands. Granda said Sanders’ vehicle was covered in blood and he admitted to stabbing someone in the car. Federal prosecutors alleged that the men established a company, Black Icon Entertainment, to portray Grant as an entertainment industry mogul and create an illusion of wealth from sources outside the church. But the company was funded almost entirely with money from the church, which preaches that black people are among the lost tribes of Israel. (CBS) — There was a fight Wednesday over the sentencing of an ex-Philadelphia traffic court judge who was charged in a ticket-fixing scheme. Willie Singletary, who is also running for Philadelphia City Council, received 15 to 21 months in a re-sentencing hearing, which Singletary has already served. Singletary and his attorney, Bill Brennan, argued he should have been initially sentenced to between zero and six months’ time incarceration because a jury only found him guilty of lying to the FBI. Federal prosecutors said Singletary still doesn’t get it. They rehashed allegations Singletary lied to protect himself and other convicted judges on a court that was so corrupted, the state abolished it, prosecutors said. Singletary is now running for Philadelphia City Council and since he’s a convicted felon, he may be barred from doing so. | ||

The two-car crash happened when 37-year-old Brandon Mills was trying to turn left from Charlotte Pike onto I-40 east. His vehicle was struck by Matthews’ Dodge Challenger, which was travelling west on Charlotte Pike. Mills died at the scene. Matthews was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. Mays was driving an Acura SUV he had stolen eight days earlier from a home on Acklen Avenue, police said. Redden would not give up the keys, police said, and Mays shot him. Mays was being held at DCS's Gateway to Independence facility. He was allowed to leave on a weekend pass in February and never came back. He was being held in connection with two previous carjackings. Metro Police said Mays robbed a man on Vanderhorst Drive on July 5, taking his cash, his debit card, and his Honda Accord. - A woman was killed early Sunday along State Road 112 in Miami after she fell from her vehicle and was run over by an oncoming SUV, which left the scene of the crash.Lt. Alejandro Camacho, a spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol, said a woman was driving west in Hyundai Accent on State Road 112 near Okeechobee Road around 4:30 a.m. One of her passengers, 23-year-old Mariah Logan, was hanging from the right rear window of the car as a Range Rover was driving behind the Accent. Logan then fell out of the window and into the roadway. She was struck and killed by the Range Rover, Camacho said. The Range Rover then struck the Accent. The driver of Range Rover, described as a British man, initially stopped but left the scene before authorities arrived, Camacho said. He told the judge his version of what happened on the day police say he purposely crashed into his girlfriend's car. “She was moving her stuff out, Friday,” he said. “She moved her stuff out on Friday.” Saint Cloud Police say they got to the, what they are calling, horrific scene just after 10:30 p.m., Friday night. “Just multiple vehicles... you could barely make out their makes or models due to the severity of the damage they all had,” said Sgt. Frankie de la Rosa, from Saint Cloud Police.They say it started as a domestic incident between Barksdale and his girlfriend. She and four other people were driving in one car and Barksdale was in another. “It seems that the boyfriend intentionally struck the girlfriend's vehicle, causing a chain reaction and their vehicle crossed into the other lane and collided with three other vehicles,” Rosa said. A woman in one of those cars died at the scene, and everyone else - including Barksdale and his girlfriend - went to the hospital. Police say it's especially tragic that innocent bystanders were injured and killed. |

Authorities say 48-year-old Gary Danielle murdered a Sebring woman and dumped her body behind a dumpster in Tampa. Now the victim’s family is pleading for justice. Five months ago, Arthur Pietscher and his wife Linda were at their home one night in Michigan when a deputy knocked on their door. He delivered news about their daughter, Laura. "When he said she was a victim of a homicide, that was what took my knees out from under me,” said Pietscher. "No parent should ever deal with this." On Oct. 19, 28-year-old Sebring resident Laura Pietscher was found dead behind a dumpster in Tampa. Arthur says DNA of the killer was found under her fingernails. “She fought back. She did what she could,” he said. Officials have identified Danielle as the prime suspect in her murder. He has a long rap sheet and has spent years in prison. "He's in our system, but nothing rising to the level of a homicide,” said Highlands County Sheriff’s spokesman Scott Dressel. Laura Pietscher was a former correctional officer. Her family says she and Gary may have met in prison, but they don't know how or why the pair ended up in Tampa. "That's a big question we've had, how did their paths cross?"  said

used forensic tools to charge a McAlester man with first-degree murder following a Monday night shooting death of a woman. Alverey Terrell Braxton, 24, of McAlester, was charged Wednesday with felony murder in the first degree, felony possession of firearms after conviction, and felony committing a felony with a firearm with defaced ID number, according to documents filed by the Office of District 18 District Attorney Chuck Sullivan. According to a probable cause affidavit prepared by Pittsburg County Sheriff Deputy Det. Randy Hass, the deputy responded Monday evening to the McAlester Regional Health Center for a report of a gunshot victim.Pittsburg County Sheriff Chris Morris identified the woman as 39-year-old Amanda Parham-Lee, of McAlester, who was pronounced dead at the hospital. Braxton was being held Wednesday in the Pittsburg County Jail on $1,000,000 bond after being charged in the death. The evidence suggests that Braxton had an argument with Parham and reacted by shooting her in the chest with a .308 rifle. SC (WCBD) – Charleston Police are investigating after a woman was reportedly attacked on the West Ashley Greenway Monday evening. According to Charles Francis with the Charleston Police Department, the attack happened around 7:00 p.m. The victim was running north on the greenway between Canterbury Road and Markfield Drive when a male was riding south on a bike.A police report shows the victim waved and smiled at the man on the bike, “as she does to everyone she passes.” But the male stopped his bike behind the victim and said: “what the [expletive] are you looking at?” The report states the suspect jumped off the bike and tackled the female victim from behind and then threw about 5-to-6 closed fist punches at the victim. We’re told the suspect abruptly got up, jumped on his bike and headed south on the Greenway towards Markfield Drive. After a few seconds, the report shows a male on a bicycle came up to the victim and asked what happened. The man then took off in an attempt to locate that suspect. When police arrived at the scene, they reported the victim appeared to have several lacerations on her neck, chest and behind her right ear. She declined EMS assistance. Texas — The Dallas Police Department needs help identifying a suspect who shot a family's dog last week, just feet from their home. The shooting happened last Thursday in an apartment complex at 4374 Woodhollow Drive. Investigators say the suspect, only identified as an African-American man in a black hoodie wearing a backpack, walked up to a group of children, shot their dog for seemingly no reason, and took off on foot. That dog, a 9-month-old Labrador Retriever mix named Nolan, belongs to Genola Vance.
Vance told WFAA that she asked her son and nephews to take out the trash last week and that Nolan followed them outside. Shortly after that, she said that her son and nephews came into her home yelling, "someone shot Nolan!" "They said he just looked at them, said 'sorry', and then shot him," Vance said. "He ran by me into the house and there was blood everywhere." Vance called Dallas police, but officers couldn't locate the suspect by the time they arrived. He is currently at large, and if found will be charged with animal cruelty per a release. Nolan was rushed to VCA Metroplex Animal Hospital for emergency surgery. The bullet went through the front of his mouth and exited through his jaw, breaking it. Veterinarians were able to place an external fixator on Nolan's jaw, and he is now expected to make a full recovery. The local SPCA chapter paid for his surgery which was around $7,000. | ||

The Commercial Dispatch reports Lowndes County Circuit Judge Lee Coleman rejected a defense motion Friday to dismiss the case for lack of prosecution. Prosecutors for the attorney general’s office told Coleman the request was just a re-invented version of previous failed attempts to throw out the indictment.
