(White) Deputy Killed, 1 Injured in Rancho Cordova; (Black)
Suspect Identified  RANCHO
CORDOVA -- The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department says two
deputies were shot, one fatally, Monday afternoon in Rancho Cordova.
The deputy who was shot in the upper body and later died was
identified as 27-year-old Mark
Stasyuk, according to Sacramento County Sheriff's
Sgt. Shaun Hampton. Stasyuk had been with the sheriff's department
for four and a half years. He died at UC Davis Medical Center."I can tell you that the fatal round was not in the vest," said Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones. According to Jones, just before 2 p.m., officers responded to the Pep Boys on Folsom Boulevard, where there was a disturbance between a customer and the business owner. Jones said the officers were expecting a "routine call" and did not know anyone would be armed when they arrived. Jones reports when the officers got to the store the suspect appeared to be turning away to run from them. Instead, he immediately turned back around and began firing at the officers "without warning," Jones said. Both Deputy Stasyuk and Deputy Julie Robertson returned fire and were wounded, according to Jones. The suspect then ran from two other officers, ignoring their demands. Jones says the officers also shot at the suspect. "Had to have been more than at least 20 shots," witness Steven Green told FOX40. Deputy Robertson, who is 28 years old and has been with the department for two and a half years, was shot in the arm. She is expected to be OK, according to Hampton. An uninvolved bystander was shot in the gunfight. Jones says he believes the bystander was shot in the back but his wounds are not life-threatening. "There was also a bystander shot. It is unknown at this point whose rounds struck that bystander. Our detectives, homicide detectives, as well as other investigators, are currently on the scene trying to figure out exactly what took place," Hampton said. The shooting suspect -- later identified as 38-year-old Anton Lemon Moore -- was wounded and taken into custody, the sheriff's department said. He is expected to survive and was speaking to officers at the scene before he was hospitalized, according to Jones. - (Black-on-white) |

third man was arrested and charged with first degree murder in the
death of a Brighton man in August. Police have other persons of
interest and are continuing the investigation into the fatal home
invasion.Jamal D. Scott, of Cahokia, is charged with three counts of murder, one count of home invasion, and one count of armed robbery. St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested Scott on Friday and he was extradited to Madison County the same day, Master Sgt. Tammy Grimes said. On Tuesday afternoon, Scott was at Madison County Jail being held on $2.5 million bail. Madison County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Capt. Mike Dixon said “several” people were in the Cottage Hills home on Aug. 16 when men came in and shot the victim. Damian M. Huber, 24, of Brighton, was visiting the Oak Street home in Cottage Hills when he was shot. Huber later died at a hospital. Bradley Payne, 29, and Kevin Payne, 31, were charged in Madison County days after the shooting. Both remained in jail on Tuesday afternoon on $1 million bail. Renan, the victim's daughter. The victim, Barbara Stross, spoke to KGW's Mike Benner. "It's scary but we're lucky [my daughter] was home and heard me." On Monday, 39-year-old man Damascus Menefee was arrested after he entered an apartment on Southeast 162nd Avenue and Stark Street through an unlocked door and sexually assaulted a teenage girl. |

Texas (KTRK) -- Authorities say a group of underage robbers who
could be responsible for a disturbing string of crimes in southwest
Houston told investigators that they committed the crimes just for
kicks. The suspects range in age from 11 to 14 years old.
In one case on Sept. 9, 76-year-old
Ray Johnson was out for a regular evening walk in the
Westbury area when he was beaten with his own walking stick by four
suspects. They pointed a gun at him and demanded money. Johnson, who
turns 77 in a couple weeks, said he yelled for help when he was
staring down the barrel of the gun and two neighbors ran over to
help. The suspects ran off when they spotted the neighbors. Johnson
was pistol whipped and hit on the head twice. He also hurt his left
hand, which he used to defend himself. A sixth juvenile
believed to be linked to the crimes is expected to be in custody by

Virginia man wanted for trying to rape a woman in the vestibule of
her Manhattan apartment building turned himself into police on
Sunday, cops said. Christopher Strickland, 44, of
Fredericksburg, allegedly followed the 22-year-old woman into the
lobby of her building near East 128th Street and 5th Avenue at about
4:45 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, authorities said. Strickland then
grabbed the woman’s rear end and wrapped his hands around her throat
as she tried to fight him off, video of the attack shows. He
eventually gave up and ran away from the building, police said.
Strickland turned himself into police on Sunday morning and was
being held at an NYPD facility in East Harlem, authorities said. |

second and third floors of the parking garage in Marine Park.

discovered her body, court records show   HOUSTON,
Texas (KTRK) -- The 24-year-old man charged with murder after a
woman's body was found in a recycling bin in his bedroom faced a
judge overnight.Alex Akpan, who wore a black T-shirt with the Bible verse Psalm 82:3 written on the back, stood in court as new details came out surrounding the death of his alleged victim, 23-year-old Irene Yemitan. Akpan had only known Yemitan for a few days. Authorities have not said what the possible relationship may be between them. According to court documents, on Sept. 5, Akpan's mother went inside his room at their home in the 9600 block of Wellsworth Drive to see if he was there. She stated that it wasn't normal to have the recycling container there since it's usually in the back yard. When she looked inside, she saw a foot. She tipped the bin over and saw the body of a woman, who was later identified as Yemitan. That's when she called her ex-husband over to the house. When he arrived, they pulled Yemitan's body out of the bin and attempted to do CPR. They called 911, but Yemitan was already dead. Investigators noted the victim had no apparent signs of injury. Court records say she was strangled. On Thursday, prosecutors asked for a $500,000 bond, claiming Akpan was a flight risk. They also say Akpan's family was planning to send him to Nigeria. |

fatal motel stabbing of White man leads to decades-long sentence
for (black) man convicted in attack  EVANSVILLE,
Ind. — The East St. Louis man found guilty of killing a religious
leader in an Evansville motel was sentenced last week on murder and
attempted murder charges.Ryan Connors, 28, was found guilty at trial last month of stabbing Avery Scott Shoe to death. Investigators said Connors joined a religious group traveling through the Midwest and then attacked Shoe when the group stopped at a local motel in January 2017. Another member of the group testified Connors stabbed him multiple times as well. That man told investigators he survived because he laid on the floor pretending to be dead. Shoe, who was from North Carolina, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other man was taken to a hospital. Connors was convicted of murder and attempted murder in the attack. He was sentenced to 55 years in prison on the murder charge and 30 years on the attempted murder charge, court records show. Sartain's boyfriend told police he was driving down Chisholm Road when someone in a dark-colored Chevrolet Cruze confronted them at the traffic light at Cox Creek Parkway. He continued driving on Chisholm Road and the Cruze followed them to Malone Circle, where someone got out of the Cruze and fired several shots at the car Sartain was riding in, police said. Killed By Friends While Fleeing Walmart Shoplifting Spree  ELKTON,
Md (WJZ) — 38-year-old Chermaine Mayo is the woman
authorities said ran over and killed her own friend while trying to
flee from a shoplifting spree. “For me, it’s really sad to see that
someone could just dehumanize someone like that and leave the
scene,” says Captain Joe Zurolo, Elkton Police Department. Police
said Mayo and her two accomplices, Donisha Harris and Keneesha
Cunningham, tried leaving the Walmart off Pulaski Highway
without paying for over $1,000 worth of merchandise. A security
officer followed the trio and tried snapping photos of their car.
“In an attempt to conceal the tag, the victim, Kaneesha
Cunningham, jumped on the trunk of the vehicle and tried to
use her body to cover tag,” said Captain Zurolo. Police said Mayo
was behind the wheel and reversed, hitting a curb, leaving
Cunningham trapped under the car before reversing and hitting
another curb. “It’s crazy, I mean a total disregard of life in my
opinion. They didn’t even attempt to at least render air” said
Captain Zurolo. Cunningham was pronounced dead on the scene, while
the other two suspects fled on foot and were quickly apprehended.

COUNTY, Md — A former Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
paraeducator has been arrested and charged for the sexual abuse of a
teenage girl. Detectives from the Montgomery County
Police Department – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID)
have arrested and charged 38-year-old Thomas Henry Ridges
with two counts of sexual abuse and a fourth-degree sexual offense.
These offenses are related to his inappropriate touching of
the teenage girl and his inappropriate sexual conversation with
and proposition of the victim. Ridges’ came into contact with
the victim as his role as a Horizon Child Care, Inc. employee. At
the time of these offenses, Ridges was a Montgomery County Public
Schools (MCPS) paraeducator and a coach for Springbrook High School
Boys Junior Varsity Basketball team. |

woman on Sunday morning. Dover Police say 33-year-old Isaac
Pierce was with the victim in the area of the basketball

when he physical assaulted the woman and forced her to drive to a
parking lot on the 600 block of Ridgely Street. At this time,
officials say Pierce forced the victim to engage in sexual acts, and
strangled and threatened her. Pierce and the victim are known to
each other, but police are not releasing her identity or
relationship to Pierce to protect the victim. |

neighbor Brenda Mullins. Mullins is not denying it. “The dog came and messed in my yard,” Mullins said. “I picked it up and went and put it on her doorknob. You didn’t want to clean it up here. You will clean it up there.” Mullins said she did it because Edwards’ dogs keep relieving themselves on her yard. “I had to do what I had to do,” Mullins said. “I didn’t want to be a vigilante, but I had to do what I had to do.” Edwards said if the dogs did relieve themselves in her yard then it was an accident and not deserving of Mullins retaliation. “You think she would know better than to do something like this,” Edwards said. “If my dog pooped in her yard. Thursday. The 20-year-old New Haven woman had pleaded guilty in June
to robbing a bank in Garfield, New Jersey, while wearing a head
covering and conspiring to steal money from an ATM at a bank in

received a 37-month sentence Wednesday. The pair were arrested last

Later that day, Taha and his friend chased the acquaintance and fired a weapon at him, leading to an exchange of fire. The acquaintance was injured in the leg and a 17-year-old passerby was injured in the neck and died a few days later at the hospital. He said he endeavors to forgive her but that she must pay for her crime. “You should not come out of prison until you die,” he said. Justin Grady and Cortavious Heard, have already entered guilty pleas in the case. A fourth (n*gg*r), Angel Harmon, is also charged in Dow’s murder. On Aug. 4, 2016, Dot Dow was asleep at home while Kenneth was at a movie. She awoke to discover Ellery, Grady, Harmon and Heard in her home. She was repeatedly asked about Kenneth’s whereabouts and about the location of money. Unable to provide an answer, the elderly woman was cursed and beaten until both arms were broken. morning ended up in a deadly gunfight with another driver.Andrew Holder is facing charges, although the other driver reportedly shot and killed his passenger. Prosecutors say Holder and the other driver exchanged gunfire during a violent road rage incident. His 31-year-old passenger Brandy Brock got caught in the crossfire. Witnesses told IMPD officers Holder and the other driver flipped each other off while racing through traffic. The other driver told officers he first swerved to avoid a sewer cap. When the two cars finally stopped at a light, witnesses told police that Holder reached out the window and fired his gun at the car stopped behind him. That's when the other driver reportedly stepped partially out of his car and fired back. CITY, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – A victim of an attack by a serial groper
who has been terrorizing women jogging in Tarrant County in recent
weeks shared her story in hopes it will help lead to the suspect’s
arrest. Eberheart says she did everything she thought a woman should
do to stay safe while jogging.She’s been a runner for years. On September 2, she went for a run alone in Haltom City around 7:30 p.m., while there was still daylight. She said she was close to home and her loved ones knew where she was. And still, it happened. She said a man dressed like a runner, came up behind her, pinned her face down, groped her over her clothes. “I was just kicking and screaming; I didn’t get a good look at his face,” said Eberheart. “He ended up using his hands down there and doing other things down there. It was very much a sexual assault case.” Eberheart says a truck drove by and scared him away. Police in cities across Tarrant County believe the same man who attacked Eberheart also groped five other women in Arlington, Euless and Hurst starting in August. Police are still looking to make an arrest. There is no good description of him because he’s come up behind all the women, but they all say he’s a young black man, in his early 20s. Memphis man has pleaded guilty to raping three women in the
Raleigh-Frayser area — cases that went unsolved for up to 18
years as rape kits that held identifying DNA evidence went
unprocessed. Patrick Marshall pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated rape and was sentenced to 18 years, 19 years and 25 years in prison. The sentences will be served concurrently with no parole. The settlement was approved by Criminal Court Judge Chris Craft. On Sept. 23, 2000, Marshall broke in through a kitchen window at a home and raped a 22-year-old woman at knifepoint. On June 7, 2002, he broke into a home in the 4900 block of Yale Road and raped a 32-year-old woman at knifepoint. And on July 2, 2002, he raped a 19-year-old woman at knifepoint after breaking into a home in the 2800 block of Vayu Drive. All of the attacks occurred in the early morning, officials said. |

A Taylor County grand jury on Thursday indicted an Abilene man
accused of multiple instances of sexually assaulting a child.
Anthony "Tony" Lee Alvarez, 19, was indicted on four counts of
sexual assault of a child, along with one count of sexual
performance of a child, stemming from two separate
reports from Jan. 13 and May 5. According to court documents,
Alvarez began talking to one of his victims, a
14-year-old girl, through the social media service
Snapchat. In January, the court documents said, Alvarez
visited the victim while she was at a friend's residence, sneaking
in through a window. There, she reported, they talked for a while
before having sex.A week later, the documents said, Alvarez crawled through a window at the same residence and the pair again had sex. At this time, she told police, she was asked to hold a cellphone that was recording. Later, in May, court documents said, a different 14-year-old girl reported she was forced to perform oral sex on Alvarez. Alvarez held her hair and forced her, she told police. |

LAUDERDALE, Fla. - A Fort Lauderdale man was sentenced to more than
92 years in prison after being convicted of three armed robberies, a
carjacking and brandishing a firearm during the commission of each
crime.DeAndre Smith, 23, was sentenced. Smith was convicted by a trial jury on July 2 on all eight federal charges against him. He was sentenced to a total of 1,105 months in prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release. Smith pulled out a gun Dec. 12, 2017, on an employee of IT Tech in Fort Lauderdale and demanded software be placed on his computer. When the tech refused, Smith struck him in the face with the gun and stole the software, prosecutors said. The tech eventually had to have one eye amputated because of the beating. Authorities said Smith also carjacked a victim at gunpoint Dec. 20, 2017, in Fort Lauderdale. He then went to a Dunkin' Donuts right after, jumped over the counter and held the clerk at gunpoint while demanding cash. Authorities said Smith then left and robbed a Subway restaurant in Davie. |

The boy eventually told his mother that he had sneaked out Monday night and visited Williams’ home, where he consumed alcohol and drugs. At some point, the teen recalled losing consciousness and said that when he regained consciousness, Williams was assaulting him. The teen said Williams “performed various sex acts on him” without his consent and that as a result of the attack, “he received injuries consistent with a sexual assault and did not feel well.” In May 2017, Williams was charged by Volusia County sheriff’s deputies after they said he attempted to lure a 14-year-old child for sex while online. |

schools in the Santa Clarita Valley area has been arrested on
allegations he molested several of his players.Jeremy Haggerty, 34, was taken into custody Thursday by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies on allegations he molested at least eight players. Detectives began investigating Haggerty in August and learned that he had molested multiple players over a period of several years going back to at least 2008. “He gained the trust of parents where their parents would allow the suspect to provide the children with one-on-one tutoring sessions to improve their basketball skills,” says Sgt. Brian Hudson with the LA Sheriff’s Department. Haggerty is accused of massaging the players. “These massages started out innocently enough,” says Sgt. Hudson, “eventually they progressed where he was touching the victims inappropriately in a sexual manner.” He allegedly called it “body maintenance,” officials said. |
