filed in 'gut-wrenching, heartbreaking' Alabama dog-fighting
operation A formal charge was filed Monday against a man arrested Sunday after Jefferson County lawmen busted a dog-fighting ring in Mulga. Reginald Antonio Dowdell, 42, was taken into custody Sunday. Sheriff's detectives obtained one felony dog fighting warrant against Dowdell Monday afternoon, and will seek additional charges on Tuesday. Dowdell could face three additional dog-fighting charges, and possibly 16 animal cruelty charges. "It's gut-wrenching and heartbreaking,'' said Chief Deputy Randy Christian. "The fact that some people can see it as a sport to facilitate or be an audience for is just despicable and hard to comprehend." Deputies received a complaint of dogs fighting in the Mulga area about 11:30 a.m. Sunday. As they arrived on the scene, they could hear what sounded like dogs fighting in the woods behind a home on Main Street. As deputies headed into the woods, they were met by a juvenile carrying an injured dog. Once at location of the dog fight, Christian said, deputies initially found 17 pit bulls, four of which had injuries consistent with dog fighting. Several more dogs were later found. There was a ring with fresh blood inside, he said. Investigators also recovered 11 dog skulls so far. |

Detroit colored gurl severely burned attempting 'fire challenge'
- A 12-year-old girl from Detroit is in the hospital recovering from severe burns after taking part in a disturbing trend called the Fire Challenge. "I can't help my baby. I can't help her," said Brandi Owens. Brandi is trying to be strong, but can't bear seeing her daughter bandaged from head-to-toe and in intensive care with burns over 49 percent of her body. Timiyah Landers and her two girlfriends were hanging out at her Detroit home on Friday after mother Brandi made them pancakes and went to take a nap. Minutes later, Brandi said she heard a small explosion. "She came running up my hallway on fire from her knees to her hair," she said. Timiyah was on fire. Brandi's fiance quickly put her in the bathtub and sprayed her down with water. Brandi rushed Timiyah to the hospital as the other girls admitted, they were taking the fire challenge -- something one of the girls had seen on YouTube where you douse yourself with rubbing alcohol and set yourself on fire. |

Hempstead cop Joseph Page pulled over and got out of his car in The Bronx on July 21 after his SUV was hit from behind by a Toyota sedan, officials said. Two people then exited the Toyota that hit him, and two more people got out of a second car that pulled up, and all four men kicked and punched Page while swiping the gold chains he was wearing, according to a criminal complaint. Page — who thought he saw one of his assailants with a gun — shot one of the men, Saikou Sumareh, 20, (from The Gambia in Darkest Africa) in the arm and stomach and another, Musa Krubally, 24, in the stomach, authorities said. During the melee, Page also accidentally shot himself, officials said. |

||
"Allahu
Akbar" Does Not Mean God is Great Media needs to refrain from translating Allahu Akbar as “God is great” . “Allahu akbar” does not mean “God is great,” but rather “Allah is greater.” There is a big difference, as you can see in the analysis below: When Muhammad led a surprise raid on the Jewish settlement at Khaybar in 629 AD, his battle cry was “Allahu akbar! Khaybar is destroyed.” (Ibn Ishaq, The Life of Muhammad, paragraph 757) The same shout of “Allahu akbar” was used by the Islamic airplane hijackers on 9/11/01 and by Nidal Hasan at Fort Hood on 11/5/09. This battle cry is intended to give courage to the Muslims and strike fear in the non-Muslims.,, ‘Allah’ is not simply the Arabic word for ‘god,’ but the name of Islam’s chosen deity, and ‘Akbar’ does not mean ‘great’, but ‘greater’. Greater than what? The answer is, Allah is greater than whatever god you happen to believe in. This is meant as an expression of contempt and insult to Christians and Jews, and so it should be properly translated in articles about Islamic terrorism. |
