(Black) Man gets 2 life sentences in (White) Cobb couple’s murder Roy Lee Hicks, 41, was convicted of Anthony and Catherine Costners’ murder Tuesday, nearly two years after authorities say he shot and killed the couple in front of their 3-year-old daughter during a drug deal. He will serve two life sentences plus 30 years. Police were called to a Powder Springs parking lot in August 2015 for what they thought was a single-car accident. The Costners’ Pontiac Grand Am was backed into a ditch. Police later found out the couple intended to meet Hicks, who also goes by Roy Brown, for the drug deal. Prosecutors later determined he planned to rob them, Cobb County District Attorney spokeswoman Kim Isaza said. But the pair came back on that June day in 2016 without the snacks telling Mathis that they were not in stock. Kentucky Roman Catholic priest reaches plea deal on sex abuse LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A Catholic priest has reached a plea agreement on sexual abuse charges that occurred at a summer camp in Kentucky that he ran for decades. R. Joseph Hemmerle was facing allegations of abuse from a second person who said Hemmerle abused him at Camp Tall Trees in Meade County. Hemmerle was also convicted in November of abusing a boy who attended the camp in the 1970s. Prosecutors say Hemmerle’s plea deal for sexual abuse and wanton endangerment includes a 10-year sentence, but it won’t add any extra prison time to the sentence he is already serving in the first case. Hemmerle entered an Alford plea Wednesday, which means he didn’t admit guilt, but acknowledged that prosecutors could win a conviction in court. Hemmerle has been on leave since 2014. |

"I'm not the man responsible for Mr. Jenks' death," Henry said. He went on to read a long statement in which he claimed his rights were violated by police and prosecutors during the investigation, questioned whether he was discriminated against because he is black and said he was "denied my right to due process and a fair trial."
