"You have ripped out my heart and soul," Wood said. "In killing her, you have also killed me." Bradley, 21, pleaded guilty in November to first-degree reckless homicide in what the prosecutor described as a "senseless" act in which Wood was treated as "a simple cash machine you can go to and get money from and if they're hurt in the process so be it." On July 13, Bradley's uncle provided him a gun, telling him and two other men — William J. Bounds, 26, and Jeremiah A. Flowers, 18 — to go rob someone. (Chinese woman) Head of US Patent Office Michelle Lee will remain under President Trump With President Donald Trump having taken office today, many government offices are in the midst of a major transition. In one office that's closely watched by technology and internet companies, however, the leadership looks to remain the same—the US Patent and Trademark Office. There's been no official announcement about USPTO leadership from Trump's team, with the new president having been inaugurated earlier today. But The Hill reported yesterday that Michelle Lee, a former top lawyer at Google, will remain as USPTO director under President Trump. Politico reported the same news, sourcing it to statements by Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) and confirming it with other unnamed sources. Lee's remaining at USPTO is a a surprise victory for the technology sector, which offered scant support for President Trump while he was campaigning for office. She supported President Barack Obama's patent reform agenda, and Trump's views on patents are a cipher. |

(Homeless black man) found guilty of second degree murder (of White man) * Defense played the 'Queer defense card' A jury convicted Taikwan Crosby of second degree murder with a weapon after close to eight hours of deliberation Thursday. Crosby was on trial for the brutal death of a senior citizen who offered a then-homeless Crosby a place to sleep for the night in 2013. The victim, James Faucett, 60, was beaten, bludgeoned and stabbed in his Wisteria Avenue home in the hours after meeting the defendant. Neither the state nor the defense denied that Crosby killed Faucett, but Crosby claimed he attacked Faucett in self defense after the older man attempted a sexual advance on the younger man. The two men met at a Kangaroo gas station in Escambia County on the night of April 28. Neither party denied that Crosby got into Faucett’s car and went home with him. It was what happened next that was in question. The state claimed Crosby was a desperate criminal who flirted and showed interest in an older man at the gas station in the hopes of taking advantage of him. The prosecutor argued that had the attack been self defense as claimed, it's not likely Crosby would have then stolen Faucett's car, tried to use his ATM cards, buried the vehicle's license plate and fled law enforcement, as Crosby's own initial testimony to police stated. Assistant State Attorney Bridgette Jensen told the jury that Crosby led Faucett on to believe the two would have sex, and Faucett ended up dead only hours later. "Mr. Faucett can't tell you what happened, but his injuries can," she said. The defense, on the other hand, claimed Faucett was a sexual predator who used Crosby's homelessness as a way to lure him back to his home to have sex with him. - (Black-on-white) |

New Jersey State Police Upset Trooper Killer Joanne Chesimard Remains on Run Despite Cuba-US Deal The head of New Jersey's state police has criticized a law enforcement deal reached between the U.S. and Cuba, because it doesn't require the return of a woman convicted of killing a state trooper. Col. Rick Fuentes said Thursday that the information-sharing agreement announced this week burned Barack Obama's last opportunity to negotiate for the return of fugitives including Joanne Chesimard before he leaves office. Fuentes says he will work with Donald Trump to negotiate for her return after he is inaugurated. "By burning the last bridge to this administration's opportunity to gain their negotiated return, families who have long suffered the consequences of their terrorist acts and law enforcement everywhere in this country have been shown the back of the hand," Fuentes said. "An ignominious torch has been passed to the next president." - (Black-on-white) |

The trio of rock-throwing teens “get so bold that they’ll even throw rocks at you while you’re sitting in your car,” Cannon said. “They’ll throw rocks at your house while you’re standing at the door.” “A second before I looked up ... all the rocks come flying toward the house and right at me,” Cannon said. The state had been relying on DNA evidence and cellphone records to charge Charles. Prosecutors also say the gun used in Raksin's death had been used 30 hours before in an armed robbery. |
