Bond set for (black) suspect (in murder of White woman) Bond was set at $250,000 for the man charged with the murder of Sumrall resident Kimberly Raynes. During an initial appearance Friday in Lamar County Justice Court, Municipal Court Judge George Gunter set bond for Donald King Jr., 35, at $250,000 for first-degree murder and $10,000 for possession of a weapon by a felon. A preliminary hearing for King, 35, of Sumrall is scheduled for noon Monday. The Mississippi Department of Corrections has a hold on King for a probation violation. Gunter said it will be left up to MDOC officials whether that organization's hold against King is dropped and he is allowed to bond out of jail. "He violated his probation ... and that being the case, he'll probably wind up going back to Parchman and serving the balance of that sentence that he's probated for," Gunter told Raynes' husband, Jamie Raynes. "If MDOC removes that hold, then he can make bond. But until then, he's going to be, can we say, a happy camper (in jail)." - (Black-on-white) |

(White) Missouri police officer 'fighting for his life' after ambush shooting (by black) A suburban St. Louis police officer was in critical condition late Friday after he was shot in the neck in what investigators described as an "ambush" following a traffic stop. Ballwin Police Chief Kevin Scott said the unidentified officer was walking to his car after the initial conversation with the motorist he stopped for speeding Friday morning when that driver "advanced quickly" on him from behind, firing at least three shots. The officer "had no chance at all" to pull his handgun and "was completely helpless," Scott said, noting the encounter was recorded by the police car's dashcam. "Make no mistake: We believe during this investigation that Ballwin officer was ambushed, period," St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said. Scott said the officer was in critical but stable condition, and "fighting for his life" at a hospital in Creve Coeur, west of St. Louis. After the shooting, Belmar said, the suspect sped away before an officer from another police department spotted the car about 4 miles away. The suspect abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot before being arrested about five minutes later, Belmar said. Antonio Taylor, a 31-year-old black man who was paroled in 2015 after serving time on a federal weapons charge, was charged with assault of a police officer, armed criminal action and a felon in possession of a firearm, St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch said Friday. McCulloch said there's no evidence of any dispute between Taylor and the white officer, a nine-year veteran before the gunfire. Scott said he "can't even begin to speculate" about a motive, including whether the shooting had racial overtones. - (Black-on-white) |
