Kenner Police: Raising Cane's manager stabbed repeatedly after surrendering cash, collapsing; 4th suspect arrested Was race a factor in brutal stabbing of this white woman by a black male ex-coworker? The level of violence involved had police groping for a motive beyond simple robbery. Kenner Police Chief Michael Glaser even suggested the suspects could be charged under hate crime statutes if the attack had something to do with the victim’s race or gender, and he said he had contacted U.S. Attorney Kenneth Polite’s office about the possibility. Friloux was a white woman, while Every and Crocklen are black. Personal animosity may also have played a role, given that Every had worked at the restaurant with Friloux until about eight months ago. Glaser said former co-workers told police that Every has a dislike of “certain people,” adding, “I don’t know if it was the white race, the female race.” When Friloux refused to open the back door of the restaurant, police said, Joshua Every stabbed her once. At that point, police said, she let him and the other man inside the store, where they forced her to open the safe and took about $1,000. While his accomplice fled, Joshua Every paused and repeatedly stabbed Friloux, who had collapsed, police said. One wound pierced her aorta, according to Glaser. Taylor Friloux’s (black) boyfriend, Mack Keys, said Wednesday that he believes Joshua Every may have resented Friloux from their time working together. It was the only reason he could conceive of for the stabbing. “He never said anything to me to make it seem like he hated women (or white people),” said Keys, who worked with Every at the restaurant. “I honestly don’t know if he hated women or white people, but he probably just hated (Friloux).”

Judge to rule whether to make 'Dateline' turn over suspect's interview - jury deadlocked over black killing pregnant white girlfriend KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- A Knoxville judge could try to force “Dateline NBC” to turn over an interview with the man accused of killing his estranged girlfriend and their unborn son. Criminal Court Judge Steve Sword heard arguments Thursday to have “Dateline” release a video interview with Norman Clark that has not yet been broadcast. Clark interviewed with the NBC show, accompanied by his former attorney, Greg Isaacs, right after his mistrial. Jurors came back hopelessly deadlocked 11-1 in favor of a “not guilty” verdict. The state is now seeking a retrial. Prosecutors want to see what Clark said on camera. While they do not know if it would help their case, there is a possibility the information could be used during the trial, said Assistant District Attorney General Sean McDermott. McDermott said the state would compare what Clark said on “Dateline” to the statement Clark made to Knoxville Police investigators and the statement he made in a police squad car back in 2011, after Brittany Eldridge, 25 and their unborn son “Zeke” were murdered. - (Black-on-white) |

Police: Slidell murder victim targeted after posting pics of SUV, rims, cash SLIDELL, LA - Investigators believe a Houma couple murdered a Slidell man after tricking him into a date while communicating online. On Cordaryle Robert's Facebook page, there is picture after picture of his Escalade on 30-inch rims. It is the same Escalade that was stolen from Roberts, put on blocks and later found burned in a Lafourche Parish cane field near Thibodeaux early Saturday morning. Investigators said it was Robert's Facebook page that caught the eye of his accused killers, Terrance Calloway and Dana Lemar. "The case started as a Facebook date that was intended to be a rip or robbery," Jefferson Parish Newell Normand said. Investigators said last Friday, Lemar contacted Robert on Facebook for a date. Detectives said Robert agreed, and the two met that Friday night in Slidell. According to police, Robert then left Slidell in the Escalade and headed to Harvey because Lemar told him she had a family member in Harvey who needed help in the 4100 block of Peters Road. But investigators believe it was a ruse to get Robert alone and rob him. "It was at that point that the victim was shot and killed, and it was that point then that both vehicles, the vehicle that they were in and the vehicle of the victim, left that scene," Normand said. On Wednesday, authorities discovered Robert's body in a ditch along Peters Road. |

(Black) Man guilty of beating (White) man to death with a microwave The answer to the Allen County Deputy Prosecutor Steve Godfrey's question was "no." No, you cannot bludgeon someone to death with a microwave oven and get away with murder. Godfrey asked the Allen Superior Court jury that question regarding 29-year-old Justin Littlejohn. It took the jury just over 20 minutes to decide, convicting Littlejohn in the December killing of 46-year-old Randy Dial, a man with mental health issues living in a local motel. Prior to asking the jury that question, Godfrey held up the alleged murder weapon, a 15 1/2-pound hotel room microwave. The door fell all the way off sometime during the trial and he held that in one hand, the blood-smeared front facing the jury. He asked the jury another question. "Who wants me to drop this on your head," he said, letting it fall to the floor from a height about a couple of feet. "That thing is heavy," he said. "That thing is an instrument of death." One of the few witnesses who cooperated with police and prosecutors throughout the investigation was 35-year-old Milissa Webb-Lippert. She testified Wednesday about how Dial had been smoking Spice with the group of people inside his motel room, and the drug made him obnoxious. - (Black-on-white) |

He fired into a crowd, and hit three people and nearly struck a fourth when the would-be victim pulled out his own legally owned weapon and shot him in the leg. This nameless hero has a concealed carry license, and his act prevented a mass shooting this past weekend. Local police in Lyman, SC, reported that 32-year-old Jody Ray Thompson pulled out a gun after getting into an argument with another man at 3:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. The shooting took place in the Playoffz nightclub. |

(Black) Man Who Abducted Carlesha Sentenced to 35 Years in Prison A man who pleaded guilty to kidnapping a Philadelphia woman off the street and holding her hostage for nearly three days learned his fate Thursday afternoon. Delvin Barnes, 38, was sentenced to 35 years in prison. His sentencing comes months after he pleaded guilty to abducting Carlesha Freeland-Gaither. "It was an act of robbery in the beginning, and it turned into other things," Barnes told the court last year. Barnes, who had earlier confessed, confirmed he abducted the 22-year-old nursing aide in hopes of getting money from her to travel south to Virginia to see his daughter there before facing charges for an earlier attack. The violent November 2, 2014 attack, which was captured on surveillance video, shows Barnes grabbing Freeland-Gaither moments after she stepped off a bus and throwing her in a car parked along W Coulter Street in the city's Germantown neighborhood. Once in the car, the young woman struck Barnes with a hammer, which led him to threaten to kill her if she didn't stop, said prosecutors. Investigators tracked Barnes and captured him in Maryland three days later. He told detectives that he selected his abduction victim at random.Barnes, who authorities have described as a "vicious predator," was charged federally a day after his arrest. As part of the plea deal, he also admitted to raping and trying to kill a Virginia teen in early October 2014. Investigators said Barnes hit her with a shovel and took her to a mobile home where he doused her in bleach and gasoline before she escaped. |

(Black) Brother of murdered hoops star gets 50 years for revenge killing A Harlem gang member — and brother of slain high- school basketball star Tayshana “Chicken” Murphy — was slapped Friday with a 50-years-to-life sentence for murdering a rival thug by a judge who told him “you don’t seem to think too well.” Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Edward McLaughlin ripped Taylonn Murphy, 20, for not heeding several warnings to get on the straight and narrow — and out of the 3 Staccs gang. “Mr. Murphy, you were warned not only by me, you were on probation,” McLaughlin said. “A teacher, a coach . . . maybe other judges . . . and almost certainly the probation officer tried to communicate to you what would happen if you didn’t straighten out.” In April, Murphy was convicted by a jury of fatally shooting Walter Sumter in 2011, just weeks after Sumter, 18, mocked his sister’s death in a rap video. |

2 blacks indicted in murder case of murder of White Desert Storm veteran and cancer survivor thanks to CrimeStoppers tip MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two people are charged with murder, accused of killing a man whom they tried to rob at gunpoint in January. On Tuesday, a Shelby County grand jury indicted Devonta Vaughn and DeMarco McKinley on charges of first-degree murder, criminal attempted first-degree murder and employment of a firearm with intent to commit a felony. Police nabbed the men thanks to a tip sent in anonymously to the CrimeStoppers hotline, 528-CASH. The caller said Vaughn was one of four men involved in killing Lonnie Ludvigson. Police investigated and confirmed the information. The investigation also led to McKinley as a suspect. Police arrested Vaughn Tuesday. McKinley is in custody in Dallas and will be extradited to Memphis, police said. The caller will receive a $13,500 reward for the successful tip. An anonymous donor and U-Ship contributed to the reward. Ludvigson, who was a Desert Storm veteran and cancer survivor from Iowa, was traveling on business and only planned to be in Memphis for less than 24 hours. Police said he was sitting in his car near the home he was staying at in the 700 block of Prescott Street when four masked men came up to him and demanded money at gunpoint. He tried to run but was shot and killed. A pedestrian witnessed the crime and exchanged gunfire with the suspects, who then fled the scene, police said. - (Black-on-white) |

Emotional second day of Benny Brown trial draws to close in Laurens Co. LAURENS, SC - A Laurens County man is on trial for the shooting deaths of his longtime girlfriend and a Laurens County deputy in 2011. Benny Brown Jr. is charged with two counts of murder, five counts of attempted murder, and weapons offenses for the July 13, 2011 killings. Brown is charged with two counts of murder, five counts of attempted murder, and weapons offenses for the July 13, 2011 killings. Investigators said Brown killed Nicole Kingsborough, 38, in the parking lot of the Fehrer plant in Fountain Inn, where the victim worked. Family members said Brown and Kingsborough had been in a relationship for more than 20 years and that Brown had prior arrests for domestic violence. Laurens County deputies began searching for Brown after the Fehrer shooting and said they tracked him to a home on Barrel Stave Road in Clinton. After a brief standoff, investigators said shots were fired. Brown, Deputy Roger Rice and another person were all wounded in the exchange of gunfire. Rice, 29, died from his injuries at the hospital. The young deputy had only worked for the department for about a year and a half and had only recently completed his training at the state’s Criminal Justice Academy a few months prior to his death. Rice left behind a wife and two children. Kingsborough left behind three children. The youngest was only three-years-old at the time of her death. Prosecutors announced in November 2011 that they would seek the death penalty against brown but trial Judge Frank Addy ruled earlier in June that the death penalty was not a viable option due to mental competency issues involving Brown. - (Black-on-white) |
