Houston police arrest suspect in several sexual assaults HOUSTON -- Houston Police have arrested a man they believe attacked and raped at least eight women in northeast Houston several years ago. Marquis V. Tate, 33, is charged with eight counts of aggravated sexual assault. Investigators say Tate tried to target prostitutes, though that wasn't always the case. All his victims were women walking by themselves. "He has pulled out a knife in the majority of the cases, and in two of the cases, he pulled out a firearm and forced them into the vehicle," a detective said. Police say there were 13 sexual assault cases with similar suspect and vehicle or location denoscriptions. One lead took them to Ft. Worth, where they tied Tate to a vehicle that matched the denoscription in multiple reports. He was then linked through DNA analysis or identified in a photo lineup in seven cases and was charged in all of them. |

Trial Underway For (black Sudanese child-soldier) Accused Of Fatally Stabbing (Hispanic) Coworker At Meat-Packing Plant NORRISTOWN, Pa. — The trial is underway of a Lansdale man charged with first and third degree murder in a stabbing at a Montgomery County meat-packing plant. Peter Jok Atem is charged with 1st and 3rd degree murder in the death of 25-year-old Danny Vazquez at the MOPAC JBS rendering plant in Franconia Township in February of last year. In opening statements in Montgomery County court, Prosecutors say Atem was not scheduled to work, and was not supposed to be at the plant that day, they say he was there only to kill Vazquez, and that along with other evidence, they say, along with an attempted suicide and a note left by the defendant, show he is guilty of 1st degree murder. But defense attorney Ben Cooper says this shouldn’t be 1st or 3rd degree murder, instead, voluntary manslaughter. He traced his client’s history, his birth into tribal warfare in Sudan, taken from his family at age five, only to end up in another war in Ethiopia, then captured and turned into a child-soldier at just 12-years-old. Resulting, Cooper says, in a diagnosis of PTSD and profound depression. |

Black Sports: Baylor Trying to Settle Sexual Assault Claim WACO, Texas — Baylor University is trying to settle a federal lawsuit from a former student who claims school counselors told her they were "too busy" to see her after she was raped by former football player Tevin Elliott. The Baylor University Board of Regents on June 9 filed an unopposed motion to extend the deadline for filing an answer from June 20 to July 20. Jasmin Hernandez filed a negligence and gender discrimination lawsuit against the board, former head football coach Art Briles and former athletic director Ian McCaw in early April. She says Elliott grabbed her at a party in 2012, took her behind a shack and raped her. At least five women have accused Elliott of raping or assaulting them between October 2009 and April 2012. He was sentenced in January 2014 to 20 years in state prison on each of two counts of sexual assault. - (Black Sports) |

Orlando shooter's father is a CRAZY pro-Taliban anti-U.S. Islamist In his Facebook videos, Seddique Mir Mateen, the alleged gunman's father has often appeared wearing a military uniform and declaring himself the leader of a "transitional revolutionary government" of Afghanistan. He claims to have his own intelligence agency and close ties to the U.S. Congress -- assets he says he will use to subvert Pakistani influence and take control of Afghanistan. After watching his videos -- none of which were recorded in English -- CBS News' Ahmad Mukhtar said it seemed possible that Seddique Mateen is delusional. "He thinks he runs a government in exile and will soon take the power in Kabul in a revolution," notes Mukhtar. |

But he claimed his bosses refused to take action because Mateen was a Muslim. |

(White female) Teacher harassed racially and sexually by students wins $125k settlement A Queens teacher won a $125,000 city settlement for injuries caused by out-of-control teens who also harassed her racially and sexually while school leaders did nothing to stop it, she says. Kathy Perez suffered five herniated discs in her back, two in her neck and a torn meniscus in two incidents at MS 72 Catherine and Count Basie in Jamaica about 18 months apart. In the first case, teens racing around the room trampled her. In the second, a girl shoved her to the floor. Both times, ambulance workers removed Perez on a stretcher. Perez says several kids taunted and threatened her as they spewed X-rated profanity. 4 (blacks) Sought in ‘Sophisticated’ Burglary Ring That Targeted Affluent SoCal Homes Six people have been arrested and four more are being sought in connection with at least several dozen burglaries committed by a “very sophisticated” theft ring based out of South Los Angeles, the Sheriff’s Department said Thursday. The case began in March 2015 with a string of residential burglaries in Claremont, sheriff’s Lt. Chuck Calderaro said at a news conference. The 12-detective burglary-robbery task force with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department took over the case, linking the crimes to others in the region, including in Ventura County. The crew of documented gang members that were identified as the suspects had committed dozens if not hundreds of burglaries, sheriff’s Capt. Myron Johnson said, calling them "very sophisticated." Generally, the crew would target affluent areas using the “knock-knock” technique to find homes where residents were absent, Calderaro said. “This type of crime is becoming epidemic,” he said. Six of 10 suspects in that case are in custody and four others still being sought: Eric and Alexus Netterville, Anthony Souice, and Joshua Johnson. |

(Black, Spanic) Men assault, rob (White) 70-year-old retired substitute teacher "Cowboy Bill" ROSENBERG, TX -- "He came around and punched me," he explained. "I flew down onto the ground." To understand what happened, you first have to understand who it happened to: a 70-year-old retired substitute teacher whose legal name is Cowboy Bill. "That was given to me by some kids that I taught how to rope and ride in 1984," he laughed. It's easy to see why kids love Cowboy Bill. Some of his students, like now-18-year-old Shaquille Davis, even come by his house. "I even let this guy sleep overnight so he wouldn't have to go miles to go home and the rough weather or the cold weather," Cowboy Bill said. "Why he set me up, I don't know." Police say Davis and two other men, 21-year-old Paul Ybarra and 20-year-old Edward Shavers Jr, robbed and beat up Cowboy Bill last month. They got away with two guns usually used for hunting. David and Ybarra have been arrested. Shavers is still on the run. "I just can't believe a student would do this to me," Cowboy Bill said. Now, former students are taking care of him as he recovers. "The response I've gotten in the last three days, I don't know how to say thanks for that," said Cowboy Bill. - (Black-on-white) |

(Black man) admits slaying (white) girlfriend A southern Indiana County man pleaded guilty Monday to a homicide charge just before his trial was scheduled to begin in Westmoreland County. At a sentencing hearing this morning, Arthur Whitfield III, was ordered to serve life in prison without the possibility of parole after pleading guilty to second-degree murder, as well as other consecutive sentences for lesser charges. “We’re pleased that it resolved itself in a way that keeps him away for the rest of his life” and that the victim and defendant’s daughters won’t have to relive the case in court again. In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors agreed to drop first- and third-degree murder charges. Whitfield received concurrent sentences of 10 to 20 years for the burglary, five to 10 years for the firearms charge and 3½ to seven years for carrying a firearm without a license, all felonies. Whitfield shot his former girlfriend, Holly George Sloan, in her home on the night of Dec. 1, 2013. She died weeks later at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. She was 36. Sloan's daughter, Savannah Embry, told state troopers that Whitfield entered their home and forced his way into a bedroom, where the two were watching TV. She said Whitfield drew a gun from his waistband, yelled at Sloan and opened fire with a small semi-automatic pistol. Sloan was hit multiple times. Embry was not physically harmed. Whitfield eluded capture for several hours until neighbors spotted him hitchhiking. After Sloan’s death and the results of toxicology reports, police added charges of homicide on March 6, 2014. . - (Black-on-white) |

300 worthless black South African firefighters came to Canada to fight wildfire - then go on strike over wages Alberta Premier Rachel Notley says 300 South African firefighters who joined the fight against the Fort McMurray wildfire will get paid what they were promised after they threatened to leave over a payment conflict. "I can say right now that every hour that every firefighter from South Africa -- or anywhere else -- has worked on these fires will be compensated in accordance with our laws in this province," Notley said. The firefighters said they would be leaving Alberta after only a week on the job, following a strike over the terms of their payment. The dispute has been a sour note to the South Africans' deployment in Alberta, which started with much fanfare when they arrived at the airport in Edmonton on May 29. The firefighters sang and danced on their first day in Canada. - (Canada) |

Tyfine Hamilton, 17, plead guilty to third degree murder for the death of 51-year-old James Stuhlman. He was sentenced 25 to 80 years in prison. According to police, then 15-year-old Hamilton was the triggerman in the fatal shooting. He said ‘please don’t shoot me’ … and they still shot him one time,” said Homicide Captain James Clark. Both Hamilton and Smith were freshman at Overbrook High School. Smith, who was charged as an adult, faces trial next March. The third, 14-year-old suspect faces lesser charges. - (Black-on-white) |

(White) Swedish Student Speaks Out After Robbery Attack In Wynwood (by two blacks) WYNWOOD — This week was supposed to be a celebration for 28-year-old Frank Hammar. He was set to graduate from the Miami Ad School and his parents had flown all the way in from Sweden to see him finish his studies. Instead, they sit bedside at Jackson Memorial Hospital while their son recovers from being shot and robbed. “I was really lucky with the bullets,” said Hammar. “One of them entered into the abdomen, stopped somewhere further… butt cheek.” His celebrations would be cut short after a dinner with his parents in Wynwood. As he walked home, surveillance video showed two men approach him. One pulls a gun and demands his cellphone and wallet. “This one guy comes up to me with a gun drawn on me and next to me and is telling me to take out my stuff and put everything on the floor,” Hammar recalled. “I pulled out my cell phone and put it on the ground and told them to take it easy.” Coming from one of the safest countries, where pickpocketing is the biggest concern, Hammar hesitated to give the thieves his wallet because they contained his Swiss credit cards. “Impossible to get a hold of quickly again and I have had a really hard time for my last month that I have here in the states,” he said. That decision, however, is what made the men mad enough to shoot him, Hammar said. “And the other guy says something like ‘blast him’ or ‘pop him’ and the guy with the gun fires two bullets.” Hammar suffered two gunshot wounds to his lower torso. Thankfully, he remained conscious enough to crawl into the street where a passing car noticed, stopped and called for help. It’ll force Hammar to miss his graduation ceremony. But he said he’s just thankful to be alive. - (Black-on-white) |

Va. school music volunteer sentenced to 25 years for child porn ALEXANDRIA, Va.- A federal judge sentenced a Manassas middle school volunteer to 25 years behind bars and 15 years of supervised release for producing child pornography. David Battle II, 24, was a volunteer at Grace E. Metz Middle School before he was arrested last June and convicted on four counts of production of child pornography, attempted coercion and enticement of a minor, receipt of child pornography and distribution of child pornography earlier this year. Among some of the consequences, Battle must pay one victim $1100 in restitution and register as a sex offender. Prosecutors say Battle posed online as an underage girl who convinced minor boys to send him sexually explicit pictures of themselves. When police searched his home, they found videos of child pornography. An officer named David Abbott was a part of the investigation. Last fall, Abbott killed himself after being accused of molesting two boys. Battle's parents believe Abbott planted evidence on their son's computer after an altercation between the two. Two new suspects arrested in Del Valle homicide DEL VALLE, Texas — Detectives have arrested two new suspects in the homicide of 68-year-old Lee King in Del Valle on May 31. Deputies responded to a panic alarm last Tuesday at King’s home on Plains Crest Drive. As officers tried to force their way inside, Clifton Wade, 37, exited the garage with blood on his face. Wade told deputies his friend, Lee King, was injured and the suspect, identified as Wright, got away through a back bedroom window. Wade told deputies he saw Reginald Oneal Wright assault King with the end of a rifle and strangle him before leaving the scene. Wright, 41, was arrested Wednesday, June 1. Authorities found him under thick brush around 4:45 p.m. about 1.5 miles from where he ditched his car. Wright has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, capital murder and burglary. The Travis County Sheriff’s Office investigation revealed that Wright, Wade and a third person, Chelsea Elizabeth Wilhelm, 24, were all involved in the murder, as revealed by cell phone communication. Wilhelm drove the car intended to be used as the “get-away” vehicle. In text messages from Wade to Wilhelm, he writes, “Don’t let him get to that button,” referring to the victim’s panic alarm. Wright told detectives that, as he held Lee down, he cooked meth and a poison and then injected the victim with it multiple times between his toes and on his neck. Wilhelm and Wright are in custody in the Travis County Jail. Wade was just arrested Friday afternoon, deputies say, and is being taken to jail. Wilhelm has been charged with capital murder. |

(White female) 25-year-old murder victim had three (White) young children POWELL COUNTY, Ky. - "It's horrible. It's horrible. Think about it. Brandy was beautiful and now she's gone. We'll never see her again,” Gary Sell said. Sell is 25-year-old Brandy Davidson’s step-father. Davidson was found shot to death over the weekend. Through tears Gary Sell talked about his daughter Brandy Davidson, saying she was a joy to be around, someone who never met a stranger. Sell said he believes she was just in "the wrong place at the wrong time" when she was shot and killed over the weekend. “To my understanding they shot her in the back, they shot her twice in the head. We'll have to have a closed casket now. I'll never get to say goodbye to her again,” Gary Sell said. Brandy’s family said one of the most difficult parts about losing Brandy is that now her three very young children will grow up without their mother. "No matter how many pictures you show a kid, they're not going to know their mother. I mean a picture is not mommy,” Robin Sell said. "I've lost my daughter. Nothing can bring back your daughter, nothing,” Robin Sell said. Brandy’s family has set up a GoFundMe account to help pay for funeral expenses and anything left over will go into a college fund for her children. - (Black-on-white) |

(Black) talks to weeping mom; admits to role in fatal shooting of (White) deliveryman STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A courtroom conversation with his weeping mom sparked a dramatic 11th-hour turnaround Wednesday as a Mariners Harbor teen admitted to his role in shooting death of a deliveryman during a botched robbery two years ago in his home community. With jury selection set to start, Otoniel Carty, 19, pleaded guilty in state Supreme Court, St. George, to a lesser count of attempted second-degree murder, stemming from the fatal shooting of Richard Salvia, 50, on April 1, 2014. Carty entered his plea after Justice Wayne Ozzi allowed the manacled defendant to speak to his mother for a few minutes at the railing between the gallery and the defense table. Carty's mother could be seen crying as she spoke to her son and wiped away tears as she returned to her seat. In exchange for his admission, Ozzi told the defendant he would be sentenced July 18 to 22 years in prison and five years' post-release supervision. During plea negotiations, Ozzi informed Carty he potentially faced up to 25 years to life behind bars if convicted at trial of second-degree murder. In entering his plea, Carty admitted he was acting in concert with a co-defendant, James Sanders, in the robbery attempt, and Sanders had killed Salvia as they fled. - (Black-on-white) |

(White) Knoxville woman sentenced to 15 years in fatal shooting of her (black) husband A Knox County woman who killed her husband in a fit of rage over a text message pleaded guilty Monday. Tammy Lynn Talford, 57, pleaded guilty before Knox County Criminal Court Judge Steve Sword to a reduced charge of voluntary manslaughter. She had faced a second-degree murder charge in the fatal shooting of husband, Lawrence "Leon" Talford, 52. As part of a plea, Tammy Talford was sentenced to 15 years in prison and agreed to turn over the proceeds of life insurance she collected in her husband's death to his family. The punishment is at the top of the penalty range for voluntary manslaughter. Because Talford already had a criminal record, she must serve 45 percent of the 15-year term before she will be eligible for parole. She initially reported to the Knoxville Police Department that the April 2015 shooting at the couple's home was accidental. Tammy Talford told arriving officers that she and her husband were passing a .38-caliber handgun back and forth, and then gun discharged. Her husband had suffered a gunshot wound to his upper chest. Under interrogation, however, Tammy Talford admitted she and her husband were arguing over a text message he sent to another woman. Her husband concluded the text with the words, "I love you," according to Terry's prior testimony. Tammy Talford told the police investigator she retrieved the gun from a night stand drawer and wound up shooting her husband. In court Monday, she continued to insist she did not intend to kill her husband. |

Grand Jury declines to indict (White) Arlington officer for shooting (black) teen at dealership A Tarrant County grand jury declined to indict a former Arlington police officer accused of shooting and killing a 19-year-old at a car dealership in 2015. Former Arlington officer Brad Miller, 49, was accused of following Christian Taylor, 19, into the dealership where he shot the Angelo State football player four times as the teen rushed toward him. Before the confrontation, video from the Arlington dealership showed Taylor acting erratically, jumping on cars and later busting through the gate into the parking lot. An autopsy showed Taylor had drugs in his system at the time of the shooting. Miller was fired by Arlington Police Chief Will Johnson days after the shooting. - (Black-on-white) |
