The men, both immigrants, asked where the other was from. "I say I'm from Guyana. He say I'm from Liberia," Benschop testified Friday before he was sentenced for his role in a 2013 building collapse that killed the 68-year-old Davis and five others. Fayetteville home invader receives a little frying pan justice FAYETTEVILLE - Glenn Tew used his favorite frying pan to fight off an intruder. "The fact that he would come in and invade our own home and just do the kind of damage he had done, no one should have to put up with that kind of mess." Tew said. Thursday, just before midnight, Tew went to check on a noise in his den, and confronted 21 year old Sheldon Dix as Dix broke through a glass door. "And I hollered at him, and he proceeded to come charging at me trying to knock me out, we kind of locked horns and fought on the floor." Tew said. Tew's wife heard the commotion and ran to help her husband. She tossed the frying pan to her husband. "I think my wife hit him in with a metal trash can a couple of times" Tew said. "And once I got the frying pan, I proceeded to give him a good dose of that." Police say just minutes before the break-in, Dix savagely attacked a mother who was waiting in her car at a nearby church parking lot. They said when another man saw the attack and tried to intervene, Dix starting beating on the man. The woman in the car then pulled out a handgun and shot at the attacker. "The victim in the car happened to be a concealed-permit holder. She had a legal right. She retrieved her firearm and fired off two rounds," said a Police Lt. Terry Yelvington case: Arrest made in Polk County (black-on-White) homicide POLK COUNTY -- A convicted felon "with a vendetta" was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree murder in the August 2015 killing of a Lake Alfred softball coach, the Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said Friday. Alfred Ranard Jenkins, 54, is accused in the shooting death of James "Terry" Yelvington, 60, found Aug. 11 in front of his home on the 700 block of South Todhunter Way. Jenkins, of Winter Haven, and Yelvington previously had worked at the same company, Packaging Corporation of America. Yelvington, who still worked there, was the president of a workers union and had input in the hiring and firing of employees. During the course of the investigation, several coworkers mentioned Jenkins, who had been fired in 2009 related to his role as union treasurer. After Jenkins' firing, Yelvington found out that Jenkins had stolen union funds and forged union checks. Yelvington reported the crime, which resulted in Jenkins' 2011 arrest for grand theft. An acquaintance said that Jenkins told him that he went to Yelvington's home and had a physical altercation with him in his garage because Yelvington had gotten him fired and arrested. Neighbors later found Yelvington dead near his driveway and told investigators they heard gunshots in the early morning hours of Aug. 11. "Alfred Jenkins drove to Terry Yelvington's house with a vendetta. This convicted felon, who has been in and out of jail in four different states, and to state prison for violent crimes, blamed this hard-working, honest family man for getting arrested and fired, and because of that, he brutally and senselessly murdered Terry Yelvington," Judd said. In addition to first-degree murder, Jenkins is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, armed robbery and tampering with evidence. - (Black-on-white) |

Young (White) man gunned down in Jack's robbery (by cold-blooded black killer) had just started new job, was 'eager for future' Family, friends and Jack's restaurants are raising money to cover the funeral costs for a 21-year-old Sumiton man who was killed at the Pleasant Grove restaurant Wednesday. Kayla Mahaffey set up a GoFundMe account in memory of Ashton Blake Roberts – her cousin, friend and former classmate. "He had just gotten a new job and was so eager for his future," Mahaffey said. Roderick Derrell King, 19, was taken into custody early Thursday on warrants for capital murder and first-degree robbery. King, who is still awaiting trial for a 2014 case where police say shots were fired during a robbery at Burger King in Hueytown, is now being held without bond. Roberts was standing in line at Jack's on Wednesday night when police say King, brandishing a rifle, stormed the Park Road restaurant and ordered everyone inside to the floor. Roberts, it appears, froze and hesitated, and was shot in the face. - (Black-on-white) |

(Black) found guilty in 2006 killing of (White) Metra police officer - shot twice in the back of his head by cowardly black assassin Every phone call over the past nine years has filled Pam Cook with a sense of dread. She worried that each could be yet another update about the investigation and legal proceedings related to the 2006 shooting death of her husband Thomas Cook, a Metra police officer. On Thursday, Pam Cook said she and her two children can enjoy life again after a Cook County jury convicted 28-year-old Jemetric Nicholson of first-degree murder in the killing of her husband, three months after a jury failed to reach a verdict the first time Nicholson was tried for the crime. "I don't have to worry about the phone ringing and being brought back to his murder again," she said. The jury deliberated for two days and was sequestered overnight before reaching its decision. Prosecutors said Nicholson worked with two other men to sneak up on Cook as he sat inside his marked squad car on Sept. 27, 2006. The officer was on special patrol near the 147th Street Metra station in Harvey when he was shot twice in the back of the head. - (Black-on-white) |
