It is a crime that has people in this community shaking their heads. Neighbors here in the 3000 block of Aramingo Avenue say they heard a single shot around 11 p.m., and found 22-year-old Stephanie Dzikowski shot dead in her upstairs bedroom. Court records show Orleans Parish Magistrate Commissioner Jonathan Friedman on Thursday ordered the release of Michael Portis, whom police arrested April 1 in connection with the slaying of Domino's pizza deliveryman Michael Price. Besides allegedly killing Tevlin on June 25, 2014, Brown is also accused of killing three other men in Washington state earlier last year. They were 30-year-old Leroy Henderson, Dwone Anderson-Young, 23, and Ahmed Said, 27. Brown is expected to be arraigned August 4. It was reportedly thrown at her during a gas station brawl. Shreveport police released surveillance video Wednesday which shows most of the action. The video shows five young men walking into the A & Y Quick Stop in the 4400 block of Hillry Huckaby Road. Jessica Byrnes-Laird said the confrontation started when a group of strangers made some rude comments, and then it escalated from there. “I was still in my bathing suit and there were a few males around my boyfriend's age. They started speaking to me, they started saying inappropriate comments to me," explained Jessica. Jessica's boyfriend then confronted the men, and fists begin flying. It happened so quickly, onlookers seemed confused as to what lead up to the violence. “I was standing up screaming at them asking them to stop,” said Jessica. After it was over, a pipe was thrown through the open passenger window, shattering several of her teeth, and cutting her face. “I remember feeling my teeth in my hands, and letting them fall,” said Jessica. “Looking down, blood just started gushing, it was really traumatic." Jessica can be seen in the video walking around the parking lot holding her face, as her boyfriend tried to call for help. “It upset me that I was going through something like this for something so trivial,” said Jessica. Now, she hopes someone recognizes the men in the video. She hopes her scars serve another purpose. “It can basically teach people to love one another, I want that to be the biggest outcome of it all,” said Byrnes-Laird.     Around 9:00pm Sunday, Jared Pelletier and Jessica Byrnes-Laird drove to the A&Y Quick Stop in the MLK neighborhood. Jessica stayed in the car, as Jared went inside. "I walk out of the station and there's these guys staring at [Jessica] saying sexual comments," said Pelletier. A fight starts. However, as the couple tries driving away, things take a turn. "One of them picked up a brass rod and threw it through the passenger-side and hit me in the face," said Byrnes-Laird. "I looked down and saw my teeth in my hand and I immediately gushed blood."

He had pleaded guilty last month to aggravated manslaughter and a weapons charge in the slaying of Aquilla Flood, his former girlfriend.
   

    Pennsylvania State Police Issue Amber Alert For 16-Year-Old Girl
Walter LewisJenea PattersonWILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Pennsylvania State Police have issued an Amber Alert for a 16-year-old girl who police say was abducted from her home in Wilkes-Barre around 11 p.m. Thursday night. Authorities are searching for Jenea Patterson. Police say she was taken from her residence on East View Drive. Officials say Patterson is a 16-year-old black female with black hair and brown eyes. She is 5’4″, 120 pounds and is wearing gray yoga pants and a multi-colored t-shirt. Police say she was abducted by Walter Lewis, a 21-year-old black male. Authorities say he is 5’5", 130 pounds with black hair and was wearing a gray and black hoodie. Officials say he is believed to have a black handgun and is considered armed and dangerous. Police say the two left the scene on foot but may be driving a red car.

    Their daughter, 26-year-old Jorah Shane, was shot in the back when she tried to run away, and she is recovering in a Billings hospital, the woman's aunt, Ada Shane, said. He told the family to give him their money, but the family said they had only change because they recently returned from a religious revival in Window Rock, Arizona. The man told the family to start walking. Tana Shane told her daughter in their Native American language to run. Jorah Shane told her aunt that she heard a shot, started running then heard bullets whizzing by her head. She fell, heard another shot, and started running again toward a church just as a car was pulling out. The aunt said relatives have kept the hospital room's television off and she doesn't know how they will break the news to her.

   

    Fijian caretaker suspected in fatal beating dies after San Francisco police melee
Filimoni RaiyawaAn in-home caretaker suspected of beating and inflicting fatal injuries upon his 96-year-old client near Occidental died Thursday morning in San Francisco following a melee involving several San Francisco police officers, authorities said. Filimoni Raiyawa, 57, lived with Solomon Cohen, the man he was suspected of beating at Cohen’s Dupont Road home in the outskirts of Occidental. Another person staying at Cohen’s house found the injured man and called 911 at about 4:56 a.m., reporting that it appeared the man had fallen, Lt. Carlos Basurto said. Paramedics saw Cohen had serious head injuries, and he appeared to have been badly beaten. Cohen, who was known as “Sol” to many in the community, was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he died of his injuries at about 9:15 p.m. He was surrounded by his family, said Annie Hershfield-Cohen, the partner of Solomon Cohen’s daughter, Betsy Hershfield-Cohen.

  • Suspect who died in S.F. police confrontation was wanted for beating elderly man
    The suspect was later identified as Filimoni Raiyawa, 57, who was 6 feet tall and 265 pounds and wanted by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office for allegedly assaulting an elderly man. The victim in the crash got out to talk to Raiyawa, who appeared incoherent and was making disturbing statements about God and “God’s will,” said police Chief Greg Suhr. The victim backed away, police said, and called 911 as Raiyawa got out of his car and approached him in a threatening manner, eventually chasing him around the block. “He struck one of the officers several times about the head and shoulders, beating her to the ground nearly unconscious, and throwing her partner by the wrist,” Suhr said. They put him in handcuffs, but within minutes, he went into distress and stopped breathing, Suhr said. Efforts to resuscitate him were not successful and he died at the scene.

Advocates Seek Vatican Inquiry of Newark, New Jersey Archbishop
Priests, nuns and canon lawyers who advocate for molestation victims urged Pope Francis on Wednesday to use the new Vatican tribunal he formed on negligent bishops to investigate the archbishop of Newark, New Jersey, who has long been accused of sheltering abusive priests. The crisis erupted in 2002 with the case of one pedophile priest in the Archdiocese of Boston before spreading nationwide, then engulfing the Roman Catholic Church. But the archbishop came under heavy criticism in 2013 after news reports that now defrocked priest Michael Fugee, who had been accused of groping a teenage boy. "They punched me right in the side of the head and then I was on the ground," Wittwer said. Wittwer bears the scars of his assault and was briefly hospitalized. "I check in and from there, I got three CT scans and an x-ray for my elbow," Wittwer said. Wittwer, a DePaul student, is the most recent victim of a series of brazen, late-night muggings in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood. Seth Day says he was beaten and robbed on Halsted near Buckingham Place last week in an area bustling with bars and businesses. Day said he was beaten by a group of men who left him bloodied, then used his credit card nearby just hours later. In the incident on Clark, the offenders were described as being four black men between 25-30 years old, and one white female, 25-30 years old. In the incident on the 3300 block of Halsted, the offenders were described as three black males and one black female. In the 3200 block of Halsted incident, there were three black male offenders, mid- to late 20s, 5'10"- 6'0" tall, with slim builds. - (Black-on-white)

Hasan Gooden-ReidWilliamsport Police have charged Hasan Gooden-Reid of 1630 Sherman Street, Williamsport with Criminal Homicide, Aggravated Assult, Abuse of corpse and Criminal Mischief in connection with the death of his girlfriend, Kristina Pope, of the same address, Williamsport. Gooden-Reid is accused of stabbing Pope in the back several times, causing her death, on or around July 7, over three weeks ago. The police report says there was an argument and fight about a broken toilet in the apartment. Several neighbors had complained of foul odors coming from the apartment in recent days. When the Housing Authority crew entered the apartment Tuesday morning, they reportedly found some type of slime on the walls, sludge in the sink and smelled what they described as "decomposing meat".  Upon going outside to place some items in a trash can, a Housing Authority employee found what looked to be a human jaw bone. - (Black-on-white)

    Jury Hears 9-1-1 Call Of Fiancee Of Craigslist Murder Victim
Thomas CoffeePHILADELPHIA – The victim’s fiancee in the Craigslist murder trial took the witness stand, while jurors heard her desperate 9-1-1 call to Philadelphia police. It happened in West Oak Lane two years ago, as the victim responded to an online classified ad for an ATV. “I don’t know what’s going on. I don’t know what to do,” Jessica Davis told jurors. Trembling on the witness stand, she said when she called the 9-1-1 dispatcher, she was worried that the shooter was coming to get her too, because she had the money for the transaction. She and her boyfriend, 27-year old Daniel Cook, went to West Oak Lane to check out an all terrain vehicle, but he was shot and killed within seconds of getting out of their car. Coming up today, the defense will try to call the former lead homicide detective in the case. Ronald Dove testified at defendant Thomas Coffee’s preliminary hearing. Since then, Dove was indicted on obstruction of justice and other misconduct charges in unrelated matters.

Farrah SmithNew Castle County Police have arrested a nurse's aide they say stole $2,000 from an 89-year-old patient by forging checks. Thirty-seven-year-old Farrah Smith of Wilmington was arrested Tuesday and charged with numerous counts of forgery and crimes against a vulnerable adult. Officers say the victim told police checks were missing in February and unauthorized funds were missing from her account. Investigators say Smith worked as a visiting home nursing aide for the victim for several months. Police say she made out 14 of the victim's checks to herself and then cashed them.

    Caught on Cam: (Black) Man Steals Money From Vending Machines at College in South Jersey
black thiefPolice are searching for the man who was caught on tape stealing money from and damaging several vending machines at a college campus in South Jersey. The crime happened on July 9 at the Mount Laurel campus of the Burlington County College. Mount Laurel Police say the vandal stole money out of eight vending machines. He also caused damage to the machines, police said. One of the crimes was caught on surveillance video.

    Torso found during Connecticut probe into severed arms, legs
Ray RobersonNEW HAVEN, Conn. — Police in Connecticut say they’ve found a human torso in an abandoned building two weeks after discovering a pair of severed arms and legs elsewhere in New Haven. State and local police, using cadaver dogs, began searching two buildings that share a parking lot after receiving a tip Wednesday. Officer David Hartman says the torso was found Thursday hidden inside one of the buildings, which is known as a place the homeless use for shelter. The remains have not been identified. Police discovered legs and arms at separate locations July 15. The legs were matched by DNA testing to 54-year-old Ray Roberson, a homeless man who had last been seen in May. Hartman says police have been told the two arms also likely were Roberson’s.

Jesus Deniz MendozaA Pryor couple was shot to death and their daughter wounded at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday when they stopped to help a man who had run out of gas on the Crow Reservation. Jesus Deniz Mendoza, also known as Jesus Deniz, was arrested at around 12:30 p.m. about eight miles north of Meeteetse, Wyo. "At this time, there is no further danger to the community," said Todd Palmer, Special Agent with the FBI in the Salt Lake City Division. Bryce Hugs, who is serving as a family spokesman, said his aunt, Tana Shane, 50, and his uncle, Jason Shane, 52, were killed. Their daughter Jorah Shane, 24, was shot, but escaped.

Yishai SchlisselPolice have arrested a man after six people were wounded in a stabbing at the Gay Pride parade in Jerusalem. A police spokesperson identified the suspect as the same man who stabbed three people at the parade in 2005. Yishai Schlissel, an ultra-Orthodox Jew, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for that attack and was released from prison three weeks ago.


    Former Cape May Boy Scout Leader Arrested For Homo Sexual Contact With Minor 11-Year-Old Boy
Frank L. “Sandy” ThomsonCAPE MAY COUNTY, N.J., — The Cape May County Police Department announced the arrest of Frank L. “Sandy” Thomson. Thomson, 68, was arrested for aggravated sexual contact, luring/enticing a child and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Thomson, a resident of Cape May City, was serving as an Assistant Scout Master with a Boy Scout Troop in West Cape May at the time of the arrest. He also served as the treasurer of the Corinthian Yacht Club. Thomson was “grooming,” an 11-year-old boy for sexual purposes by purchasing expensive gifts. Officials say that another young male was sexually assaulted by Thomson several years ago.

Hispanic teen may face life in prison for kidnap, rape and murder of 8-year-old (White) Santa Cruz girl

The murder charges includes special circumstances of sexual assault, kidnapping and lying in wait. At a news conference outside the Santa Cruz County Courthouse on Wednesday morning, Rosell said that Gonzalez faces life in prison without the possibility of parole. "We have charged this individual as an adult with the crimes for which he is responsible. We're going to bring him to justice and there is no plea deal on the table for anything," said Rosell. "You look at the nature of the crimes, you look at how the crimes were committed, you look at the age of the offender and you look at criminal record if any, those are typically the factors that are used to balance," Rosell said.

Police are looking for Willie E. Parker, 46, in connection with the shooting at a parking lot in the 3900 block of Rainbow Boulevard. Parker is 6'2" and weighs 179 pounds. He works for a local medical transport company. Friends and family of the victim, Michel Ziade of Lee’s Summit, stopped by his family’s home all day Wednesday. He leaves behind a wife, young daughter and large extended family that are all left trying to understand what happened.   • Police: Man on the run after allegedly shooting, killing his employer outside Univ. of Kansas Hospital
    KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A gunman remained on the loose Tuesday after police say he shot his boss outside a medical office building near the University of Kansas Medical Center. According to police, an employee and employer of First Class Medical Transportation had an ongoing feud. Police say the employee who is known as 46-year-old Willie Parker was in a separate medical van than the employer when the two began fighting. Ezeoma Chigozie Obioha, 31, was arraigned on one count of murder with the special circumstances of lying in wait and murder for financial gain, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement. Obioha pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was ordered held without bail, the station said. Prosecutors say Obioha was waiting for Carrie Melvin, 30, on the evening of July 5, and ambushed her near a busy intersection near her home as she walked to dinner with her boyfriend. Tensing was wearing a body camera and that the video confirmed that there was a struggle.

Stephen RobinsonMILWAUKEE — A 29-year-old Milwaukee is accused of sexually assaulting an 82-year-old woman in the street on the city’s north side. Stephen Robinson is now charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault and one count of aggravated battery. The victim was walking to her apartment on Thursday afternoon, July 16th. She uses a walker for assistance. The complaint indicates when the victim was several blocks from the bus stop, she was approached by Robinson who “got very close to her and mumbled something.” The victim told police she began to fear for her safety and attempted to walk faster. A few moments later, the complaint indicates Robinson “pushed (the victim) to the ground and her walker was knocked over.” Robinson then sexually assaulted the woman. The victim “started screaming ‘God help me, God help me’ because she thought someone might hear her.” The complaint says the victim was also so fearful that she yelled, ‘God forgive me’ because she thought she might be killed during this encounter.” Robinson eventually got off of the victim and fled. Officials say the victim called 911 for help after the attacker ran. She waited and waited — and then placed a second call. Three hours passed before a squad was dispatched.

Terry Jerome Person, 25, was arrested Wednesday, according to court records. He is charged with second-degree rape, second-degree sodomy, enticing a child for immoral purposes, possession of obscene material and disseminating obscene material. The victim is 15 or 16 years old.

Alicia Angel, who has penned tunes for TV shows such as “Dora the Explorer,” said she was only trying to help pal Erin Reed when she invited her in December to be a roommate at the songwriter’s $800-a-month, West 29th Street flat. She quickly regretted the decision. Reed smokes pot at least twice a day, and “purchased marijuana with the intent to distribute” to at least one building resident, and once “curled up in a fetal position” and went to sleep in the lobby. Reed, who works at a strip club, told her she performed “sexual acts” on a jiggle joint customer for $400, “threatened suicide” to get her mother’s attention, and said she would get mob pals to beat up an abusive client, according to Angel.

Turner — who had a history of hypertension and had undergone bariatric surgery for weight loss— was taken to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital on Sunday night after telling cops she didn’t feel well.   • India Will Be Most Populous Country Sooner Than Thought, U.N. Says
    The United Nations reported that India’s population will probably surpass China’s by 2022, not 2028, as the organization had forecast just two years ago. China’s population was now 1.38 billion, compared with 1.31 billion in India. But in seven years, the populations of both are expected to reach 1.4 billion. Much of the overall increase between now and 2050 is expected in high-fertility countries, mainly in Africa. Half the growth is expected to be concentrated in just nine countries: India, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Tanzania, the United States, Indonesia and Uganda.
    By contrast, the populations of 48 countries are expected to decline in that period, mainly in Europe, because of a slowdown in fertility rates that started decades ago. The report said several countries faced a population decline of more than 1.5 percent by 2050, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine.

  • Terrifying moment a black child's birthday party was interrupted by 'armed' white men carrying Confederate flags 'shouting n-word death threats' - A black child's birthday party in Georgia was interrupted by a group of men driving pickup trucks with Confederate flags who were allegedly armed and threatening violence. Video of the incident showed at least seven trucks with both Confederate and American flags driving past the outraged party-goers in Douglasville on Saturday. A woman who posted a second video says that one of the white truck drivers, who she alleged were armed, said he would 'kill y’all [N-words]'. Douglasville police said that they were aware of the truck convoy and followed it for a while when it came into their jurisdiction but did not see 'any criminal or traffic infractions'. They said that officers received 'conflicting statements' about what happened at the birthday party and arrested one of the truck passengers on an unrelated charge, according to the Atlanta Constitution Journal. - (Drudge)

    Levi Bush, who was driving one of the trucks, says the videos show the unfortunate ending of an unintentional encounter — one triggered, in fact, by the people at that birthday party. Bush, the leader of the caravan of trucks, told the AJC that his group is called “Protect the Flag” and is not a hateful one. They “drive around and sell flags,” he said, with all of the proceeds going to veterans or toward purchasing new American flags for those in need. Bush said his group was leaving a nearby event when they drove by Alford’s home and the partygoers started yelling at the trucks in front of him. They then threw rocks at his vehicle, he said. “Basically about eight of us had to hold 15 to 20 of them back,” Bush said.

Tony Kimhong and Chhoeuth Kim PHILADELPHIA -- Two men have been arrested and charged for a string of restaurant burglaries in Philadelphia. Investigators say Tony Kimhong, 24, of the 2300 block of South 6th Street and Chhoeuth Kim, 31, of the 700 block of Jackson Street, broke into Bridget Foy's on South Street on July 16th. They're also accused of a burglary at Saloon on South 7th Street on July 23rd. Both men are charged with multiple counts of burglary and related offenses. Kimhong is also charged with breaking into eleven other businesses, including several on Passyunk Avenue. "Diversity is our strength!"

Mengjia ZhaoA Tribeca doctor was busted for hawking Xanax prenoscriptions to undercover cops, a scheme that helped line his pockets with nearly $1 million, authorities said Tuesday. Since 2009, internist Mengjia Zhao funneled as much as $4.6 million worth of the generic form of the anti-depressant on the black market, according to the office of the city’s special narcotics prosecutor, Bridget G. Brennan. He personally made about $800,000 from the scheme since 2009.

The frantic call came from the home on Scales, where a fight started. Her children were inside. Police say two armed men, Clement Cooper and Michael Long, had been burglarizing the house when a father and his two sons came back from work. Fights broke out and a woman caught up in the scuffle was shot in the neck. The father and his two sons were stabbed. One suspect, Cooper, died on the scene. Police took Long into custody. He faces murder charges. Alan Bolt spoke about the incident off camera. He lives in the home and said his brothers and father were stabbed multiple times in the fight. He said they defended their home. Bolt says the three children, ages four, three and six months, were inside but nowhere near the violence. On the opening day of the murder trial for Bryant Brewer, Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Brian Sexton said Brewer hopped a fence outside a police station at 61st and Racine because he was “looking for the police,” the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting. Witnesses had heard Brewer mumbling “f— the police” and “shoot the police” as he walked toward the station in the afternoon of July 7, 2010, Sexton said in an opening statement before Cook County Judge Timothy Joyce. After a fight outside Soderberg’s car, Brewer grabbed the officer’s 9mm handgun and fired into his back, his right eye and the top of his head, Sexton said. Then he allegedly fired at a janitor and a police officer who was checking out what was happening, but he missed both of them. “He is proud he gunned down a police officer,” Sexton said, as Soderberg’s widow and his fellow officers listened in court. “He is a police officer’s worst nightmare.” - (Black-on-white)

Johnson County prosecutors have charged De'Anthony A. Wiley, Londro E. Patterson III, 20, Nicquan Midgyett, 20, and 18-year-old Hakeem Malik, are charged with first-degree felony murder, attempted aggravated robbery, conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and aggravated battery.with felony first-degree murder, attempted aggravated robbery and other charges. During a preliminary hearing Monday in Johnson County court, Wiley waived his right to the proceeding and indicated he would plead guilty at a later date. The hearing, held to determine if probable cause exists to take the defendants to trial, was continued for the remaining suspects. A key piece of evidence is expected to be video recovered from the store's surveillance system. According to court documents, the footage shows suspects entering the store and pointing guns at Becky Bieker, who gets punched and knocked to the floor. The footage shows Jon Bieker appearing from a back room, firing a weapon. According to documents, three of the robbers fled while a remaining suspect fired on Bieker. Becky Bieker vows to attend every court hearing and do everything she can to ensure they serve the maximum amount possible. A massive search for 21-month-old Lonzie Barton who disappeared sometime between 8 p.m. Thursday and 2:20 a.m. Friday, continues, with the focus shifting Saturday to an area near Phillips Highway and Interstate 295. "There is still some hope that we can find little Lonzie alive; although, over time, that hope fades," Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Chief of Detectives Tom Hackney said Saturday night. Hackney said it is especially frustrating because the man in custody, William Ebron Jr., knows (where) Lonzie is, but he won't tell police. "We are not working this as a stranger abduction anymore. We're still listing it as an Amber Alert, still working it as a child abduction with a missing person," Hackney said. "Ebron is lying to us,” Hackney said of the original story that Lonzie as taken when Ebron's car was stolen when he briefly back inside to get something. “He went back to the apartment to do cocaine. That turns him into part of a monster, to do that.” "I don't know if Lonzie is alive or dead."
Ebron was getting ready to pick up Lonzie's mother, 25-year-old Lonna Lauramore Barton, from her job at Wacko's Gentlemen's Club. Ebron said he put Lonzie and his 5-year-old sister into his orange 1995 Honda Civic while he went back inside to get something. Lonzie has blonde hair, blue eyes, weighs 20 pounds and is about 2.5 feet tall. He was wearing only a diaper when he was last seen.
