Black "piece of scum" who kidnaped, raped and murdered a White woman is given life
  COLUMBIA, SC - A man who admitted to raping, then killing a Kershaw County woman in 2011 has been sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. Nickolas Miller, 26, pleaded guilty to murder, two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, two counts of solicitation to commit a felony and kidnapping. While in court, Miller admitted to abducting 30-year-old Hope Melton, raping her, then beating her to death with a baseball bat. He had nothing to say when given a chance to do so by the judge. Some of Melton's family were outraged and angry at a sheriff who was recently convicted of corruption and severely jeopardized the case. In court, Chanda Roscoe held back tears as she addressed the judge and her sister's killer. Chanda told Miller that he's afraid to die and told the 26-year-old he's a "piece of scum." "I hope that God shows him and gives him the same mercy that he showed my sister, and I hope he gets beat, and I hope he is tormented, and I hope he is mutilated just like he did my sister, because that's what he deserves," Roscoe said. Miller may be behind bars for the rest of his life, but for Melton's family, that's not enough. "I, myself, and my family wanted the death penalty,” Roscoe said. “He deserves to die, and he should die." Hope's mother, Elizabeth, said they were let down to some extent. - (Black-on-white) |

West Hartford police have arrested a sub-contractor for DirectTV, who’s accused of sexually assaulting a customer during an appointment to install equipment. Police responded to a home on Hillcrest Avenue around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday to investigate the report of a sexual assault that had just happened and met with the victim. She said Gordon Rashford, 38, of Bloomfield, made advances, then sexually assaulted her, police said. The victim was transported to Hartford Hospital.
The parents of more possible victims of a Main Line man accused of secretly recording naked young women in store dressing rooms are coming forward. Police arrested 37-year-old Sean Moses on Monday at the Penn Valley home where he lives with his girlfriend and his 6-year-old daughter and charged him with dozens of counts of invasion of privacy and a count of child pornography. He was jailed in lieu of $500,000 bail. 
MIAMI — An underage girl, forced into prostitution is now safe, and two brothers accused of kidnapping her and forcing her into prostitution are locked up. Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle held a news conference Tuesday trumpeting the arrest of the brothers who are now charged with human trafficking, among other felonies. A Pahokee, Florida man was arrested Saturday morning after he repeatedly called 911 to complain about getting thrown out of an adult entertainment club in unincorporated Riviera Beach. Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Scores Palm Beach around 4 a.m. and met with Montrell Miller, who said he was unjustly told to leave the club. A deputy told Miller that the club was within its rights to deny service and remove customers as it wished. Miller was told he needed to leave the area or he could be arrested for trespassing. But after leaving, Miller allegedly called 911 six times during a 41-minute period. The report said that Miller called to report a shooting at the club, resulting in several deputies rushing to the scene. Miller is facing a charge of misusing the 911 system.
A Franklin County judge criticized Columbus City Schools on Wednesday for putting Spanish-language classes at East High School in the hands of a long-term substitute who didn’t know Spanish and showed students a movie containing graphic sex and violence. “They put a permanent substitute in a high-school Spanish class who can’t speak Spanish at all." ELKTON — Investigators captured the fourth — and possibly last — murder suspect Monday morning in connection with robbery-related slayings of a man and woman found dead inside their home in an Elkton-area neighborhood last week, according to police. Detectives took Kevin Eric Cooper, 24, into custody about 9:30 a.m. on Monday, confirmed Lt. Michael Holmes, a Cecil County Sheriff’s Office spokesman. Holmes said Cooper is facing two counts of first-degree murder and numerous other felonies, as are his three co-defendants — Derrick Lamonte Carroll, 25, of the 200 block of Mike Court in Elkton; Ellen R. NEW HAVEN — A 26-year old Waterbury man was charged Monday with sexually assaulting a woman at gunpoint he had just met through an online dating site. Police said they received a report at 1:50 a.m. from a 22-year-old woman of a sexual assault at a multifamily home on Edgewood Avenue. The woman told police that she had traveled there from Massachusetts to meet a man whom she had met through the Tagged dating app, and that as the man led her upstairs to his residence he pulled out a gun and sexually assaulted her in the stairwell. Officers responding to the house said they saw Timothy Turner Jr., 26, of Waterbury, who matched the victim's denoscription of her assailant, open a door on the third floor and close it when he spotted the police.
LOS ANGELES — A man remained in custody Wednesday for allegedly committing sex crimes at a school where he was employed. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Randolph Clifford Jackson was extradited back to California on Tuesday to face multiple charges, including child molestation. On Feb. 3, officers learned of Jackson’s inappropriate conduct with several minors at the Albert Einstein Academy in Santa Clarita. The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office filed 20 counts of felony and misdemeanor charges, which included indecent exposure and child molestation.

JOLIET, Ill. -- A Joliet police officer investigating fatally shot Shaquille Barrow, 20, after the suspect pulled a gun on him, police said. Joliet police were investigating a report of theft. The victim, who was on the phone with police, was able to provide a denoscription of what the suspects were wearing and the direction where they were headed. An officer saw two men matching the denoscription of the suspects and ordered them to stop. After a back-up officer arrived, the first officer searched one of the suspects and saw the butt of a gun near his waist. The officer drew his Taser and the suspect took off, police said. After a short chase, the officer saw the suspect pull out a handgun. The officer fired at the suspect and struck him twice. The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Shaquille Barrow, was taken to St. Joseph Hospital. He underwent surgery, but died. An arrest warrant has been issued for the second suspect, who police identified as Shawn Miller, 21.

MEMPHIS, TN - Willie Strickland was arrested over the weekend for a crime police say he committed almost 30 years ago. Alrie David Bulliner says Strickland lived with him for about a month in 2011. Bulliner said that he wasn't too shocked about the allegations against Strickland. Bulliner says he hollered at women who passed by the house. "I didn't see him much, except at night. He went and bought his own food, made it, visited over here in Orange Mound quite a bit," said Bulliner. Police say he was indicted Monday on three counts of aggravated rape and aggravated kidnapping for an incident that took place on May 29, 1987. Court documents show that the victim was under 13 years old. 
KANSAS CITY, Mo. —DNA evidence helped link a Kansas City man to the 1987 rape and kidnapping of a Kansas City woman, prosecutors said. Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said Vincent E. Williams now faces charges of first-degree robbery, three counts of forcible rape and two counts of sodomy. Williams is in prison on an unrelated case.

A behavioral counselor at Youth Villages in Bartlett has been arrested after accusations of an inappropriate relationship with a juvenile in his care, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation officials said Monday. TBI agents arrested Deniro Smith, 25, at his Memphis residence Monday. He is charged with one count of statutory rape by an authority figure, one count of statutory rape and one count of solicitation of a minor. He is being held at the Shelby County Jail. The investigation showed that Smith was involved with a male juvenile resident at the facility. The incidents happened at both the Youth Villages campus as well as Smith’s residence, officials said, primarily between April and October of last year.

A convicted felon once charged with attempting to kill a police officer succumbed to his injuries nearly six months after he was shot in East New York, police sources said. Leandre Hart, 38, was on Hinsdale Street and Atlantic Avenue on August 10th at 5:30 a.m. when an unidentified gunman, squeezed off two bullets into his right thigh, police said. Hart suffered fatal complications from the wounds and died on February 21st, cops said. Police sources say he was arrested and charged with attempting to kill a police officer. 
SLIDELL, La. —A Baton Rouge man is in jail and his daughter is recovering from head injuries after being tossed during a shoplifting incident in Slidell over the weekend. The Gary man who murdered a Portage tow truck driver in a murder-for-hire scheme received the maximum possible sentence short of the death penalty. On Friday, Porter County Superior Judge Roger Bradford sentenced Dontaye Deandre Singletary, 22, of the 500 block of Pennsylvania Street, to 65 years in prison.
