Court Stops Parole Bid for Black Panther Convicted of Killing New Jersey Trooper New Jersey's Supreme Court has put the brakes on the parole bid of a man convicted in the 1973 murder of a state trooper. The justices on Thursday granted the state attorney general's request that Sundiata Acoli not be paroled until the court decides whether to hear arguments in his case. Acoli, then known as Clark Edward Squire, was convicted with current fugitive Joanne Chesimard in the murder of trooper Werner Foerster during a traffic stop on the New Jersey Turnpike. Chesimard was found guilty but escaped from prison and eventually fled to Cuba, where she was granted asylum by Fidel Castro. She is now living as Assata Shakur and is the first woman placed on the FBI's Most Wanted Terrorist List. According to court documents, Acoli's gun went off during a struggle with Foerster, who had responded as backup after another officer pulled over the car for a broken taillight. The state contended Chesimard shot Trooper James Harper, wounding him, then took Foerster's gun and shot him twice in the head as he lay on the ground. A third man in the car, James Costen, died from his injuries at the scene. - (Black-on-white) |

Black woman called "baby whisperer" sentenced for crushing the skull of a White child CINCINNATI —A Norwood daycare provider has been sentenced for the devastating abuse suffered by a boy in her care – all while maintaining her innocence in the case. Marie Abraham came into court Thursday to be sentenced for felony child endangering. She took the unusual step of entering an Alford plea in the case, which states that she admits prosecutors could convict her. It set the stage for a sentencing hearing that put the pain of her family, and the victim’s family on display. Cole Arata was in the care of Marie Abraham back in May 2012, when she ran a daycare from her home. Cole suffered severe head trauma that left him in the hospital for 144 days. Tiffany Mogenson’s (White) family ‘sickened’ by prosecutors’ plea deal with (black) man charged in fatal Prairie Village wreck The family of Tiffany Mogenson expressed shock and dismay at Johnson County prosecutors’ decision to accept a plea deal from Roy Lee Maney, the man charged with first-degree murder after hitting Mogenson’s car at the intersection of 75th Street and Roe Avenue in October 2013 while traveling at approximately 90 miles per hour. Maney stood solemnly in the Johnson County courtroom alongside attorney Mark DuPree as Judge Brenda Cameron read the reduced list of charges — reckless second degree murder and leaving the scene of an accident — to which he had agreed to plead guilty. Attorney Jason Billam, representing Mogenson’s family, told the court that they would have preferred for Maney to face the first-degree murder charge in a jury trial. Moreover, Billam said, removing the additional charges Maney faced — aggravated battery and obstruction of the legal process — made the plea deal too favorable for the defendant. Mogenson’s family filed out of the courtroom, many with tears streaming down their cheeks. - (Black-on-white) |

White man living in fear after he was beaten and robbed outside store by pack of black thugs in racial hate crime CLEVELAND- A man was attacked and robbed outside a grocery store and it was caught on camera. Investigators said it was a hate crime. The I-Team obtained video of the September 25, 2014 attack that happened outside of a store on Woodland in Cleveland. The victim, Thomas McGill, 51, was punched, knocked to the ground, and kicked in the face and head, before one of the suspects reached inside his pocket and took his money. McGill suffered head and back injuries but said even worse, he is now living in fear. “I am paranoid to go anywhere,” McGill told the I-Team. “I am paranoid to even walk in this building.” McGill said he went to the store at 10 p.m. and when he was trying to pay for his items, one suspect started to take his money. He said he didn’t want to cause trouble so he kept his mouth shut, but then things got worse. “I just went outside the store and next thing I know I was in Charity Hospital,” McGill said. Police Union President Steve Loomis, who worked on the case, said the attack was very brutal and he believes money was not the main motivation behind the attack. “In this case, it was completely racially motivated,” Loomis said. “And what are you going to get out of the guy, just beat him up to beat him up or possibly kill him in the parking lot, for what?” The I-Team has learned that three of the men, Ronald Mango Jr., Montez Williams, and Steafon Hudson, have been indicted on several charges including aggravated robbery, felonious assault, and ethnic intimidation. A jury trial is scheduled for next week for the three men. Police are still searching for a fourth suspect. - (Black-on-white) |

(Black) Teen rapist who was given 112-year sentence appeals to top court COLUMBUS, Ohio — A lawyer for a convicted rapist argued that a 112-year prison sentence imposed for crimes committed when he was 15 is unconstitutional and the Ohio Supreme Court should overturn the sentence. Brandon Moore was tried as an adult and convicted by a jury in the 2001 armed kidnapping, robbery and gang rape of a 22-year-old Youngstown State University student. The woman was abducted as she arrived for an evening work shift and was repeatedly raped at gunpoint by Moore and an accomplice before being released, according to court records. Convicted (black) rapist charged in 15-year-old murder case CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Police have finally filed charges in a 15-year-old murder investigation. The suspect, Anthony Heyward, is being charged in the murder of 44-year-old Edwina Patricia Shelton. Shelton was found beaten to death near a home off Cosgrove Avenue in December 1999. She was found by a neighbor and was pronounced dead on the scene. “Officers responded to the address on Cosgrove, in reference to a female who was deceased behind the apartment,” said Sergeant Mark Evans. Bag of frozen rats may take down accused hit-and-run killer An accused hit-and-run killer may be done in by one key, if not repulsive, piece of evidence — his own bag of rats. Prosecutors revealed Monday at the start of the manslaughter trial for Julio Acevedo — who is charged with manslaughter for plowing into a livery cab and killing an Orthodox Jewish couple and their unborn child – that a damning piece of evidence is a bag of frozen rats with his fingerprints on the outside that was found in the BMW he allegedly abandoned after the crash. Acevedo, 46, faces life in prison for crashing at 70 miles per hour into the livery cab carrying Nachman Glauber and his pregnant wife Raizel to a hospital and then fleeing the Williamsburg scene without calling for help at about 12:30 a.m. in March 2013. A law-enforcement source said the rats were intended for a pet boa constrictor Acevedo kept at home. Acevedo has a long rap sheet dating back to 1987, including a bust for second-degree murder for the killing of the original 50 Cent. |

Since Green came forward, four other women have made similar allegations. Black Florida driver kills horse, injures its White female rider, flees scene in bizarre road rage case: Volusia County deputies (VIDEO) Volusia County deputies arrested Christopher Todd for battery and animal cruelty miles from the scene of a strange hit-and-run. Deputies said he plowed into a group of riders on horseback on Sunday after a verbal altercation. He struck horse Ellie Mae, killing her and injuring rider Chloe Sloan, who suffered a broken collar bone. In a bizarre case of road rage, a Florida driver rammed his truck into a rider on horseback, killing the horse and injuring the rider, deputies said. Volusia County sheriffs arrested 21-year-old Christopher Todd early Sunday miles from the scene of the hit-and-run. Authorities found tell-tale evidence: horse hair was stuck to his pickup truck's grill. Deputies said four horseback riders were taking a late-night ride along the St. Johns River. Around 1 a.m., they stopped at French Landing. Todd was speeding nearby in his Dodge Ram 1500. One of the riders asked Todd to slow down. The driver fired back with profanity, and the rider called Todd a racial slur, deputies said. That’s when Todd plowed his truck into the group. Sloan — who was not the person involved in the argument — fell off the horse and onto the car's hood. She suffered a broken collarbone in the fall, but ran into the woods to hide. Todd circled the dying horse and then sped off, witnesses said. - (Black-on-white) |

Psychiatrist: Black man charged with stabbing his white ex-wife has PTSD PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — A man who was accused of stabbing his ex-wife on a RIPTA bus is now being evaluated for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Christopher James confessed to stabbing Terry Chiodo in February of 2013. A judge is going to allow a forensic psychiatrist to testify during James’ domestic murder hearing. According to the psychiatrist, James has PTSD and couldn’t have acted with premeditation. Chiodo was concerned that James would hurt her. “Chiodo had told (the witness) multiple times that she did not feel safe around the defendant and felt that he was going to kill her.” James’ lawyer has filed a number of motions asking the judge to throw out a taped confession from James. The video recording of the confession showed James rocking back and forth, sobbing on the floor at one point, however the judge said there was nothing to suggest that he was incapacitated by his emotions and allowed the confession. Jury selection is slated to begin on Monday. - (Black-on-white) |

Black woman who attacked White nurse gets probation; victims' supporters fill courtroom in show of solidarity Dozens of nurses filled a Multnomah County courtroom Friday afternoon to watch the sentencing of a woman who hurt one of their own. Sierra McDonald, 25, was given five years probation for assaulting a nurse -- breaking her arm "like a chicken wing" -- and harassing a doctor. The medical professionals in attendance, many still dressed in blue scrubs, said the case illustrates the need for stricter laws and better enforcement when patients behave badly. Barbara Ward, a nurse at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, was caring for McDonald in September when she was assaulted. McDonald broke her left arm "like a chicken wing," Ward said, and co-workers had to pull McDonald off of her. The attack occurred in front of McDonald's two young children. Ian McKenna, an emergency room doctor at Randall Children's Hospital, said McDonald called him repeatedly and threatened to harm his wife and family. He said he'd provided medical care for McDonald many times and took her threats seriously. A third nurse said McDonald had yelled at her while providing her medication in prison. - (Black-on-white) |
