White Linfield athlete stabbed to death, Hispanic suspect killed
  MCMINNVILLE, Ore. — A school community is reeling after a resident adviser and football player was killed Saturday. Parker Moore, 20, of Woodinville, Wash. was stabbed multiple times late Saturday night near a 7-Eleven convenience store directly across the street from the Linfield College Campus, only hours after the team clinched the conference championships with a 59-0 win. The suspect, who returned to the scene of the crime, was shot dead by McMinnville police officers when he refused to drop a knife, officials said. A memorial for Moore, who played linebacker on the school’s football team, grew Sunday on a fence near the school’s football field as students grieved what police have called a “complete random act.” Yamhill County police tentatively identified the suspect as 33-year-old Joventino Bermudez Arenas, of McMinnville, who officials said had no connection to the college and did not know Moore. Autopsies for both men will be conducted Monday.

The man who broke into a 99-year-old City of Poughkeepsie woman's apartment and then smothered her to death is headed to prison for at least the next half-century. Javon Rogers, 21, of Poughkeepsie was sentenced to 50 years to life by Dutchess County Court Judge Stephen Greller on Tuesday. In September, Rogers entered guilty pleas to first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree burglary and one count of third-degree burglary. After taking some money in the kitchen, he walked into a bedroom and surprised Fannie Gumbinger in bed. Gumbinger told him to get out of her house and started to scream, authorities said. Rogers smothered her with a pillow and stabbed and cut her throat with a knife. He then took liquor, jewelry and $20 in cash from her home. - (Black-on-white)

A 23-year-old man suspected of sexual assaults at Navarro College and Southern Methodist University is now facing a third charge for a sexual assault near a Grand Prairie elementary school. Grand Prairie Police Department officials said they issued an arrest warrant for Torey Jamal Harris, 23, in connection with an April 11 sexual assault that took place between two trash bins near Barbara Bush Elementary School. A woman exercising was grabbed from behind, forced between the trash bins and sexually assaulted.

Duncanville police arrested a DeSoto man on a charge of capital murder in connection with the slaying of a 15-year-old boy who was battling cancer. Tyler Geraud Wiley, 19, was arrested Tuesday and is being held in the Dallas County jail. Bail has been set at $1 million. HUNTSVILLE, Alabama -- A former Providence School aide and coach was denied today in his bid for a new trial in hopes of overturning his August conviction on a sodomy charge. Hospital officials immediately alerted police. The victim told detectives she attended a fraternity party Friday night lasting into early Saturday. “On Saturday morning she awoke in a state of undress in a dorm room on the college campus and believed she had been sexually assaulted.” 
Two men arrested Tuesday are accused of having sexual contact with an underage boy. Jerry Colster, 73, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of second-degree statutory sodomy, and Don Landers, 76, was arrested on one count of the same. Both are being held at the Boone County Jail. Bond is set at $30,000 cash only for Colster and $15,000 cash only for Landers.

OAKLAND, Calif. -- A 24-year-old man suspected of raping two prostitutes in separate incidents in October and earlier this month was arrested in Oakland on Friday, police said. Rashad Joshua Costello, of Oakland, was arrested Friday when detectives served a search and arrest warrant in Oakland with assistance from the East County Tactical Team, police said. On Oct. 6, Costello allegedly removed a handgun from his waistband and robbed a prostitute of her money and iPad then raped her during an arranged meeting at a Pleasanton motel, according to police. FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas - Two more people are in custody after a fight broke out at a house party in Fort Bend County. The incident happened on Nov. 1 at a birthday party. Authorities say details of the gathering were posted on social media and as many as 75 people were there, many of whom were not invited by the hosts. 
Sheriff Troy E. Nehls said that the teenage girl who hosted the party posted the details of the event on social media. Nehls said some 50 teens flooded the home after word of the party had spread. "You don't know what kind of people you're going to attract," said Iqbal. Many of the guests were uninvited, including the suspects -- Kevin Rugurnbira, Prince Jalyesimi, Moshood Sodeke, Larry Ornoia, two juvenile boys, and an unidentified man.
