Daycare shut down, black teacher arrested after White child burned HALL COUNTY, Ga. -- The state ordered a daycare center to shut down on Friday, declaring that children there are in imminent danger. The order stems from the investigation of the daycare, Discovering Basics and the arrest of one of the daycare center's teachers on a felony charge of child cruelty. It's the latest in the case of a Hall County toddler who was severely burned last week. On Friday, sheriff's investigators backed up the mom's story that the child was burned while he was at the daycare the previous Friday, June 13. For sheriff's investigators, there is no doubt about what happened to 16-month-old Damon Gaddis, and where it happened to him. "These injuries did occur at the daycare," said Hall County Sheriff's Deputy Nicole Bailes, "And, more specifically, they occurred shortly after he arrived at the daycare" that morning. Damon somehow suffered second- and third-degree burns, from scalding water. He is facing multiple surgeries. At about 12:30 Friday, June 20, the Sheriff arrested Damon's teacher, Eddye Pittmon, 55, accusing her of one felony count of child cruelty in the first degree for not getting Damon treatment for the burns right away -- or ever. - (Black-on-white) |

In the Ferndale case, police said the victim was walking with another man, 36, on Woodward near Wordsworth about 12:30 a.m. Monday. “They were returning to the victim’s house from White Castle,” said Ferndale Police Sgt. Patrick Jones. “Two black males ran up to them and one of them punched the victim on the left side of his face.” He suffered a concussion, a broken jaw, chipped teeth, cuts and bruises. The man who was with the victim told police the two men involved in the attack laughed and ran off. The two men involved in the attack are described as black, 19 to 25 years old. - (Black-on-white) |

Police search for man who exposed himself on PRTC bus Police have some pretty good evidence in a Tuesday case of indecent exposure on a PRTC bus: the man’s mug on surveillance video. She said she was on the bus when a man sitting near her exposed himself, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok. As the victim attempted to get the bus driver’s attention, the man stood up and got off the bus at the next stop. Police checked the area, but couldn’t locate him. But they do have video of what he looks like. The exposer was black, 30 to 35 years old, about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds with a medium build, black hair, brown eyes and a goatee. Black Okla. teen faces accessory charge in shooting of White baseball player from Australia - shot in back while jogging DUNCAN, Okla. - A 16-year-old boy accused in the shooting death of a baseball player from Australia will no longer face a first-degree murder charge and is testifying against two teenage co-defendants. The Stephens County District Attorney's Office filed a motion to dismiss the murder charge against James Francis Edwards Jr. Prosecutors filed a new charge of accessory after the fact in juvenile court against Edwards in the shooting death of Chris Lane, 22. Edwards testified against 18-year-old Michael Dewayne Jones and 17-year-old Chancey Luna during their preliminary hearings and is expected to testify against them at trial in August. Both are charged with first-degree murder. Prosecutors had earlier said they would dismiss the first-degree murder charge against Edwards in exchange for his continued testimony. Evidence gathered since the killing "tends to further implicate Chancey Luna and Michael Jones and further casts doubt on the role of Edwards in the murder of Christopher Lane," according to the motion. Lane was shot while jogging along a tree-lined road in Duncan while visiting his girlfriend's parents in August. Investigators said he was randomly targeted by "bored" teenagers. Edwards' mother, Brenda Edwards, had been in prison for drug charges. |
