Black man faces up to 100 years for kidnapping, rape, beating
 WAUKEGAN, Ill. - A man and his cousin are expected to be sentenced to lengthy prison terms next month for a kidnapping, rape and beating in 2013. Jerimiah Cochran, 34, of Waukegan, convicted last week of one count of aggravated kidnapping and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, faces up to 90 years in prison at his sentencing, to be scheduled during a hearing June 16. His cousin, Natilie Myers, 32, also of Waukegan, is scheduled to be sentenced June 3. She pleaded guilty to one count of kidnapping. Initially charged with aggravated kidnapping, she pleaded guilty to the lesser charge in exchange for her testimony at Cochran’s trial. She still faces up to 10 years. Cochran forcibly abducted his former girlfriend on Jan. 25, 2013, in front of their two children while they were visiting a relative. Police said Cochran dragged her to a car where Myers was waiting. They drove to a residence in North Chicago, where she was subjected to repeated beatings and rape over a 21-hour period. |
TOLEDO, OH - Two half brothers, who took plea deals in a Waterville murder last week, were sentenced. Phillip Allen and James Allen both pleaded guilty to one count of compliancy to commit aggravated murder. The two admitted they were involved in the May 2013 home invasion and murder of James Safadi. In return, the other charges, including murder, were dropped. The demeanor of the pair was disturbing before, and even during, sentencing. They were seen joking around and laughing, all while the victim's brother, fiance, and father watched on. Both Allen brothers were sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years. Safadi's family had a hard time accepting the fact that the Allen brothers could get out of prison after 25 years, but the prosecutor said if this case went to trial, the result would have most likely been the same. Two other men, Adam Anderson and Ronald Rooker, have already taken plea deals in the case. Safadi's girlfriend told officials three males broke into their home, stealing an undisclosed amount of money and a ring off her finger. According to a source close to the investigation, seven handguns were also stolen, along with a large amount of ammunition. - (Black-on-white)

LINDENWOLD, N.J. — A naked man, who was high on drugs, punched an officer and tried to steal a police car in South Jersey. A Lindenwold police officer was interviewing two suspicious individuals outside the apartment complex when a naked male ran up to him and punched him in the face. “He turned around to see what was going on and came upon a naked male who was sweating and out of breath, and he basically claimed that this was (his) neighborhood and the officer needs to leave.” The officer then tried to arrest the male, who continued to attack him, but he had difficulty controlling the male due to the fact that he was naked and sweating profusely. During the struggle, the male broke free and jumped into the officer’s patrol vehicle and tried to steal it, but he was unable to do so. The male, identified by police as 28-year-old Bryon Neville, was believed to be under the influence of marijuana laced with PCP.
Police arrested a middle-aged Toronto man for allegedly sidling up to a young woman at a Scarborough library and committing “an indecent act while holding a cucumber.” Toronto Police would not specify what the alleged act actually involved, but said there have been at least two reports of a man with a cucumber at the Agincourt Library. Most recently, police were called to the library on Saturday, where librarians directed officers to a man sitting with a vegetable, according to a news release Wednesday. Fredrick Tennyson Davis, 49, is charged with committing an indecent act as well as two counts of failing to comply with probation. 
The man charged with kidnapping, robbing and raping an Uptown high school student at gunpoint in December 2011 accepted a plea deal Tuesday that averted a possible life sentence, minutes before jury selection in his trial was to begin. Jonathan Wilson, 29, was sentenced to a 20-year prison term without the possibility of parole after he pleaded guilty to an amended charge of forcible rape, along with the original charges of second-degree kidnapping and armed robbery with a firearm.
DETROIT – Police and officials with Detroit Public Schools are looking for a man who they say has exposed himself a number of times to female students. According to police, the man — described as being in his mid 40s, bald, with a dark complexion and a mustache and a full salt-and-pepper beard — parks his truck at a corner on school routes. When a student crosses the street, police say that’s when he exposes himself. The man has been seen with and without a salt and pepper beard, and in some incidents is completely nude. Other times he was wearing a white “wife-beater” tank top without pants, police said. He’s also said to have “darker lips” and a grayish tint to the white part of his eyes.
A man raped a mother of two inside her Woodbridge, Va., apartment Wednesday morning, according to Prince William County police. About 4:30 a.m. the 34-year-old victim woke up to find a strange man armed with a handgun in her bedroom, police said. He raped the victim and left the apartment. 
New Orleans police arrested a man wanted in connection with a reported sexual assault last month at a Central City motel. Terrell Walker, 25, was booked on a charge of simple rape and had bond set at $35,000 on Wednesday. A police bulletin said Walker was identified "from evidence retrieved by the investigator" as the man who sexually assaulted a 22-year-old woman in a motel room near South Claiborne and Jackson avenues at about 3 a.m. on April 26.
A Seattle woman returning from work was raped by a sex offender with a history of indecent exposure, prosecutors say. The incident happened about 3:45 a.m. May 19 in the 100 block of Third Avenue South. The victim, 33, had consumed a number of drinks before heading home from her bartending job on Capitol Hill, police said in an incident report. As she was using a key to enter her building police said Anthony Phillip Hawkins ran from behind and grabbed her. The victim had never seen Hawkins, who forced the woman to the sidewalk and climbed on top of her. Court documents described a graphic scene.
The trial of a Philadelphia abortion doctor accused of killing one woman and seven babies has entered its second month. Former employees have testified that Kermit Gosnell, 72, ran a dirty, outdated abortion clinic with unqualified staff. Prosecutors contend he made millions, relying on untrained, low-paid staff. Dr Gosnell faces the death penalty if convicted.
NEWARK, N.J. — Former New York City radio personality Dave Herman died Thursday while in custody in New Jersey, where he was awaiting trial on charges in a child sex sting. Herman was 78 when he died at University Hospital in Newark. The Airmont, N.Y. native, who was once the host of the “Dave Herman Rock and Roll Show” on the old WNEW, had been living in St. Croix. He was arrested at the airport there in October on a charge he tried to transport 
A lock-picking condemned prisoner and an inmate had an afternoon-delight rendezvous interrupted in the Fulton County jail. Norris Speed contended that Sheriff Deputy Michael Watts’ unfortunate timing last week prevented him from being able “to do anything” with murder suspect Jasmine Jones. Jones, however, admitted to consensual sex. She was booked into the jail in October 2011 on murder and robbery charges and had been there 956 days as of Monday. An Asheville limousine driver has been sentenced to at least 12 years in prison for a wreck that killed a newlywed couple from the Philadelphia area. Forty-six-year-old Rodney Koon pleaded guilty to two counts of felony death by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter of an unborn child and driving while impaired during a hearing in Asheville on Monday. Philip Chism, the Massachusetts high school student who is accused of raping and killing his math teacher, allegedly attacked an employee at a youth services facility in Dorchester, where he is being held pending his trial, the Essex County Sheriff's Department said Tuesday. The female employee is now at Boston Medical Center with a security detail, according to Maurice Pratt, the assistant superintendent and spokesman for the sheriff's department. 
A prosecutor says no homicide charges will be filed against four suspects in the death of a homeless man beaten inside a self-service laundry in eastern Pennsylvania. Berks County District Attorney John Adams said will instead pursue aggravated assault charges against the four suspects in the Jan. attack on 49-year-old 
MUSKEGON, MI – Longtime Muskegon pastor and convicted rapist Carlton Lindbergh Johnson, 77, won't be eligible for parole until he's at least 93 years old. The judge sentenced Johnson to two concurrent sentences of 17 to 35 years in state prison for two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, for raping two young relatives. Johnson also got a concurrent term of five to 15 years for one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct for sexually touching a third girl. According to trial testimony, all the victims were sexually abused over a period of years when they were children. One girl was 
DOWNTOWN JACKSON -- Following an investigation by Jackson police, facts were presented to the Madison County grand jury, and an indictment was returned charging Everett Gray with rape. Investigators notified Gray, 29, of Jackson, and he surrendered. He was then transported and booked in at the Madison County Jail. Gray is scheduled to be arraigned and have a bond set on Monday in Madison County Circuit Court. On April 4, a 39-year-old woman reported to police that she was raped inside her Jackson apartment by an acquaintance, Gray. 
Texas (AP) — A Fort Hood sergeant is scheduled to appear in military court to answer allegations that he set up a prostitution ring with cash-strapped female soldiers. Sgt. 1st Class Gregory McQueen is accused of pandering and several other offenses. McQueen was a low-level coordinator in Fort Hood’s sexual assault and harassment program — at a time when the military’s response to assault cases has been severely criticized. McQueen will appear Tuesday at an Article 32 hearing, which in the military system is similar to a grand jury proceeding. The hearing is expected to last two days. 
PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland police arrested 17-year-old Justin Dejohn Hubbard after they said he broke into an apartment, armed with a knife, and tried to rape a woman in the Argay neighborhood early Monday morning. By Monday afternoon, police revealed Hubbard is the same suspect involved in a sexual assault of a Parkrose High School student in March. In both cases, police said the victim was a stranger. 
INGLEWOOD — Authorities have arrested a man wanted for the alleged sexual assault of a woman on a Metro Purple Line train. Danon Drake, 23, was arrested by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department around 10 p.m. Wednesday. Drake walked into the Inglewood Police Department and said “he was informed that the police were looking for him and his picture had been broadcasted on the news,” Sgt. Al Garcia said. An LASD deputy responded to the station and confirmed Drake was wanted for assault with the intent to commit rape.
WINTER HAVEN, FL - A 63-year-old Winter Haven man was arrested after being spotted naked at two locations in Polk County wearing nothing but shoes and a t-shirt over his head. Police said he was recognized by his probation officer after surveillance video surfaced of one of the incidents. Willie James Washington, 62, is charged with two counts of indecent exposure and two counts of wearing a mask or hood in public. Police said he was spotted by a nursing home resident peeking into her window and masturbating on May 15. Detectives said he was naked, wearing only shoes and a t-shirt on his head. Police said Washington did the same thing a few days later near the Chain of Lakes Trail. It was at this location, he was arrested wearing only a mask and shoes after a female called police.
An employee of a food service company has been charged with rape and nine other sexual crimes against a fellow employee inside a University of Delaware student dining hall in Newark. Mark W. Mitchell, 57, of Wilmington, was charged with one count of third-degree rape, one count of attempted third-degree rape, four counts of third-degree unlawful sexual contact and four counts of sexual harassment, UD police said Thursday.
Following takeoff from Nashville Sunday afternoon, a United Airlines passenger warned a fellow flyer that, “I kill white people like you” when she was asked to turn off her cell phone, investigators allege. The disruption on Flight 4205, which was bound for Houston, resulted in the Embraer 135’s return to Nashville’s airport, where Lashonda Lee Williams was arrested for assault. The 43-year-old Williams, seen at right, was asked by another female passenger to “turn off her cell phone due to the aircraft being in flight,” according to a court affidavit. Las Vegas police arrested a man Friday in connection with the sexual assault of a girl on her way to school. Metro detectives received information about the sexual assault of a minor that occurred at approximately 6 a.m. Thursday. They identified and later arrested 25-year-old Reginald Deangelo Davis of Las Vegas, near his home. “Less than 24 hours later, this guy is off the street,” Metro Lt. Dan McGrath said, attributing the arrest to a mix of good detective work and luck in finding the vehicle they believe links Davis to the assault. The victim was walking to school in a pedestrian-only area near Bonanza Trail, along U.S. Highway 95 when she was grabbed and violently assaulted. Police allege Davis parked a late model, two-tone SUV nearby, walked over and grabbed the girl as she took a shortcut on the trail.

GARY, Ind. -- A Gary teenager is charged with attacking two women along a northwest Indiana bike path. The most recent incident happened May 6. A Hobart woman told police she was riding along the Oak Savannah Trail where it passes under I-65 when she was attacked. Devonta Brewington, 18, is charged in that incident as well as an attack back in August. He's being held on $90,000 bond.

A Hickory man was arrested Wednesday after he pulled a knife on a woman and tried to rape her, officials said. Nathaniel Paul Webb III, of 1735 14th St. NE, Hickory, was charged with attempted first-degree rape, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and kidnapping first-degree, according to his arrest report. He was given a $225,000 secured bond.

WASHINGTON - Authorities have arrested two people in the slaying of a MedStar Washington Hospital Center nurse at her Virginia home, including the victim's daughter and a woman she married in D.C. recently. The Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office announced the arrests late Friday of 25-year-old Christina Brown and 25-year-old Alaina Mercer, both of King George County. They've been charged with conspiracy to commit murder and are being held without bond. A statement from the sheriff's office says the two women were alerted when deputies entered their apartment complex and tried to flee. Deputies arrested them at a nearby residence. NAPERVILLE — Police aren’t saying why Daniel R. Lavigne and Callea L. Plunkett got naked in the back seat of a car parked just outside Plunkett’s apartment Tuesday night in west suburban Naperville. But they did. And, in the process, got arrested for allegedly possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Lavigne, 28, of Lisle, is on probation in a 2008 felony case of marijuana possession in Bolingbrook, according to court records. Plunkett, 22, has been convicted twice in two years of driving under the influence, court records indicated.
Brunette beauty Lisa Snowden is standing by her boyfriend after he pleaded guilty to attacking her in the street. Police have arrested a suspect for allegedly detonating a "bottle bomb" inside a Prince George’s County theater. Manuel Joyner, 20, was arrested Sunday by officers from the Prince George’s County Office of the Fire Marshal with help from county police. Investigators said Joyner made and exploded a "bottle bomb" inside the Magic Johnson Movie Theatre in Largo, Md., on May 24. He is officially charged with manufacture/possession/detonation of a destructive device – a felony charge. If convicted, he could face up to 25 years in jail.

Police in Dallas are investigating an incident that took place on Friday morning at the intersection of Oak Lawn Avenue and Lemmon Avenue. A car crashed at a gas station and, when officials responded to the scene, they found a man inside of the crashed vehicle with a gunshot wound. The man was taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas and pronounced dead a short time later. The victim has been identified by the Dallas County Medical Examiner as 33-year-old
